I'm not sure why, but it seemed kind of rushed and predictable. That isn't to say I didn't like it, I was just expecting a few surprises in the finale of the show that has amazed me with plot twists continuously.
If anything, I'd compliment the episode for taking it's time with the proceedings, especially in the first half.
I really liked that the show ended as an American tragedy, it's my favourite kind of storytelling when you're not subjected to a simplistic ending of white hats win, black hats lose. Walt's transformation from humble chemistry teacher, to megalomaniac, to monster, to crippled soul and then to a hollow reflection of what he once was, was a real treat to watch unfold.
I mean, he went to that encampment on a suicide mission to kill everyone, ****ing everyone, it was only when he saw the state Jesse was in, that the one ounce of humanity he had left in him, came to the forefront, motivating him just enough so that he would take a bullet for him. And the dialogue at the very end?
When he's practically ordering Jesse to kill him?
''Say the words, tell me you want this!!''
''I want this.''
''Then do it yourself.''
Perfect conclusion to their relationship, after all the horrid things Walt had forced upon Jesse. And the contrast to the scene in which Jesse shot Gale was also pretty evident.
Needless to say, I'm really glad I watched this show, and it's rare that I say that about a television series to be honest.
Guess I got what I deserve
Kept you waiting there, too long my love
All that time, without a word
Didn't know you'd think, that I'd forget, or I'd regret
The special love I have for you
My baby blue
And I understand where Old Spice is coming from, it would of been nice to see what happens with Jesse, but then it might of felt too much like the ending of a movie from the early 80s where the credits is just freeze frames of the characters and a paragraph of explanation of what happened.
Of course more Jesse in any way is always great.
Just an amazing finale, I can't remember the last time I finished a show and just felt so satisfied and fulfilled. And I'm glad someone FINALLY got poisoned with the Ricin.
Jesse might not be utterly done completely - at least there is the shot that he may have some role in the " better call Saul " spin off. Though who knows how they will work that one given how he's off in hiding too, so for all I know that series could be a prequel and or Saul comes back now that things are more or less cleaned up. * shrugs*
The Better Call Saul spin-off is a prequel. I think the cat is out of the bag that Saul was at least working with Walt closely so he's pretty much done.
And I agree with that Jonathan Banks said on Talking Bad after the episode, that Jesse was going to make sure that Brock was OK and taken care of, even if he doesn't raise Brock himself.
sad part is I spent years in albuquerque, and knew it well- Sauls office is in a shopping center that if you notice is hook shaped, there was " still might be' a game store there that use to be called Star Base 10 that I use to hang out in off and on for all my geeky RPG needs- it's like three doors down from Saul's on the other arm of the center , use to be a used book store at the bend.
think thats half the reason I liked the show so much was because I always knew where they were- and yes the " candy lady" is a much loved local candy maker, and they did the meth props for the show, and guess what? they started selling the blue sky rock candy XD
It had everything I wanted from the ending. The ricin in the tea, Jesse strangling Todd with his chains, death by Science!, and Badger and Skinny Pete. I'm also glad Jr didn't have any lines.
I realise now, that the 9 million Walt had left for his family, was probably the point at which he should have stopped in the first place, when he first made that amount of money, before getting greedy and staying in the business.
