SPIRIT OF SORESU

"A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack."

Created during the height of the war between the Jedi and the Sith a millennia ago, the Spirit of Soresu is an artifact designed to protect a Jedi from the offensive attacks so often employed by the Sith. Truly embodying the art of defending oneself, the amulet is a one-of-a-kind item designed to alter the footing of a duel in the favor of the wearer.

Its creator developed the item as a means of negating the offensive outbursts of the Sith they fought. By immersing themselves in the Force, the Jedi became like a rock in a rushing river. The Force flowed around them and carried with it the Force-based attacks of one's enemies.

While using the amulet, attacks made against an opponent from a similarly powered Force-user would seem to flow around the individual, failing to connect with the intended target. However, when active, the Jedi was unable to launch any forms of direct attack with the Force as well. Thus, it was a double-edged sword when fighting that hampered both attacker and defender.

This ability was not, however, invincible. Force-users significantly more powerful than the wearer (2+ ranks) could overcome it with ease and it could also be overcome by multiple attackers at once.

Activating the amulet could be done by simply tapping it and it took several seconds (one round) to come into full effect. When active, its power could be perceived in the Force by an opponent, alerting them of the futility of a Force-based attack against an opponent.

Summary list:
  • Takes one round to "activate" and when active both opponent's can sense it/it's effects
  • Prevents either combatant from using point-to-point powers (lightning, pushes, grips, pulls, etc.)
  • Can be overpowered by more than one opponent or by much more powerful (2+ levels above) opponents
  • Doesn't provide inherent advantage to either combatant, just forces a more unusual fighting style

Intent
This is a piece of site lore that I made for my Jedi to hunt down in her currently active thread. I wanted to explore some alternative combat styles and mix things up, and thought that this would be an interesting way to do that as it cuts both ways and does not inherently advantage either combatant.
