Spencer Ward

Excerpt · Biography · Personality · Skills and abilities · Miscellaneous

Spencer Ward was a Jedi Shadowmaster hailing from Alderaan who made it his mission to hunt Exiles and other enemies of the Jedi Order where ever it might lurk in any of it's forms. Spencer used any means necessary to accomplish this goal, as it's either that or the Order's destruction and galaxy being resigned to the Dark Side. But after falling disillusioned with the Order after his best friend Cregan Drast joined the Exiles, Spencer Ward stole the Drexl Class Corvette the Skyward Sword from the Jedi, leading to the death of the Grandmaster Cadef Sige. Now he stands by Cregan, aka Darth Evandrus as a Sith Master after his betrayal.

Biography

Hailing from the beautiful core world of Alderaan, Spencer Ward was born in the Kingdom of Alderaan's capital city of Aldera. Even though the hundred years of war was still winding down, Alderaan was still a jewel of the core worlds even with a galaxy ravaged by the war for the most part. It was a sad state of affairs. Spencer Ward had a loving mother and father like most families do too, Spencer was an only child and was close to his parents. His family stood in the middle class, living in one of the other cities on the planet. Spencer's childhood was like any other in the civilized parts of the galaxy until he was at the age of twelve. The parents had hoped for him to do good enough in his primary to earn his way in the prestigious and exclusive University of Alderaan. His parents would pressure him from time to time, for the sake of his future, but Spencer didn't feel the same way they did about it at the time. What they didn't know however, was Spencer was born with the gift of being a force-sensitive. Frequently on the holonet news, there would be newsreels of the battles taking place, recounting the destruction and death they bring.

On Spencer's way back from school one fateful day at the age of twelve, one moment change Spencer's life forever. As Spencer was walking home after school, one stranger lying in wait was observing him. The stranger then walked up to Spencer and tried starting a conversation with him. Having been taught not to talk to strangers, Spencer the brushes the man off and keeps on his way. This the stranger then had a bright idea to forcefully grab and kidnapping the boy, eventually dragging him to a dark alley nearby. Nobody was happening be paying attention, Spencer was worried for his life after being kidnapped. The kidnapper was smirking, then a mysterious man wearing a brown traveler's cloak came through the mouth of the alleyway. The mysterious person demanded he let Spencer go. The childmugger refused and his first action was to bring out a blaster pistol, level it out at the man and fired one shot at him.

The target out from his robe brought out a cylindrical metal hilt in front of him, igniting a brilliant blue blade from it. It was a lightsaber, Spencer knew as he was watching, this guy must be a Jedi as he knew as he watched in awe. The Jedi deflected the bolt just where he needed it to go, right in the mugger's chest. The Jedi deactivated the blade as soon he was finished. The kidnapper was dead, and Spencer figured the galaxy was one-step better off without him, as the Jedi ended this quickly and decisively. Spencer wondered just who he was. The Jedi introduced himself as a Jedi Knight named Ryate Febri, Ryate explained that he was as Spencer figured, a Jedi. Spencer was pretty inquisitive for his age, and wondered what brought him here in this spot at this specific time. The Jedi looked up, unsure as to why he was here, but he sensed something in the young Spencer, the gift of the force dormant with in him. His answer changed, reasoning it to the Will of the Force and that's what brought him to Spencer. Febri would ask the boy if he would like tho study and train in the ways of a Jedi. Spencer, enthused with the prospect of serving a purpose even greater than himself and able to make a real difference in the galaxy, accepted his offer. After saying his goodbyes to his family, to which he is aware that he may or may not see them again, he would then depart from Alderman, against their wishes.

After being taken into the Jedi Order as an initiate under his master, the path towards Spencer Ward becoming a full fledged Jedi Knight began as the galaxy-spanning war rages elsewhere. The padawan rank was gone by this time, the Order was looking to churn out new combat ready knights as soon as possible against the Jedi Exiles and Spencer's training reflected this urgency. There was little time for fun and games. Although while training he was training alongside another imitate by the name of Jax Nyine who he became friends with. The two trained together, and while Spencer's training was proceeding as fast as it should, Nyine has been progressing at a slower pace and began asking more and more questions about the war, showing doubt in the Order and disagreeing with the Order's restrictive code. This dissent would only grow over the years, although Spencer was still friends with him. Eventually it all reached a breaking point when one day while Spencer was sleeping, Nyine murdered another initiate at the Temple in cold blood and disappeared. It was clear that the dark side has taken root in Jax. Spencer was not disheartened, it only proved the Dark Side is a dangerous and all-corrupting thing thing, which strengthened Spencer's resolve to see it destroyed for the galaxy to be a better place after taking one of his friends and the student he murdered.

Spencer became a fully fledged Jedi Knight at the age of eighteen. From there, Spencer Ward became one of the Jedi Shadows and learned their ways. The dirty work of a Jedi Shadow isn't easy and it isn't hard to stray from the Light, but someone has to do it and he vowed never to lose himself to the Dark Side in pursuit of destroying it where all it exists. One day, as fate would have it, he came across his old friend Jax Nyine on a remote outer rim world while on a mission. He was barely recognizable with the dark side corruption and his lightsaber blade bled crimson as he was now a Dark Jedi. The two fought, and ended with Spencer cutting off Jax' lightsaber hand and lightsaber pointed at his throat ready to execute as he begged for mercy for his pitiful existence. Closing his eyes, he did the deed. To Spencer, the galaxy was just one baby-step towards being a better place, although he was his friend, he made his choice and he lived and died by it, but he felt sorry for him. Fast forward to the tragedy of Ilum and the Jedi Order was heavily decimated by the end result of what had transpired. Still, the Jedi will prevail and restore balance to the force, and Spencer will do what ever is needed to do of him to help make it happen.

In time however, the war was shifting in favor of the Exiles as they have re-organized themselves, eventually becoming the Sith Empire. Councilors Evalyn and Winters were dead, his best friend Cregan left the Order after he discovered Cregan was married to the Exile Overlord the whole time. Spencer was grated the rank of Master after Winters' sacrifice at Prakith, becoming the highest ranked authority in the Jedi Shadows at the time. Spencer was growing more disillusioned and distraught with the order's current direction, the ineffectual of Grandmaster Cadef Sige, and with all the losses the Order has sustained. Some time after the Shadow Conclave, Spencer Ward conspired to steal the Skyward Sword, the corvette that his best friend Cregan reclaimed to the Order, and did so with the assistance of Tage Mak after trading his lightsabers for his services. Together, they stole the ship, destroyed the hangar to Jedha's temple, and killing Grandmaster Cadef Sige along with any Jedi who were in the hangar at the time. Although it pained him and shook him to the core, conflicting him, he eventually joined Cregan on the other side, becoming a Sith Master in the process. He would become one of Cregan's (now Darth Evandrus) disciples and becoming a Warden in the Judgement. It was only a matter of time after joining he felt the call of the Dark Side and then started using it's power, giving in and breaking his vow never to succumb to it's influence, becoming what he sought to destroy.

Personality

As a Jedi, even though he was a little rough-around-the-edges, at heart Spencer Ward is usually an easy going guy, who likes to crackwise, has a witty sarcastic sense of humor outside of active fighting, but is completely down to business when he is. He can be reserved when meeting strangers under friendly circumstances and isn't fond talking about his upbringing, but he can open up like a book. Spencer is confident in his abilities and just a little-bit on the hot-headed side.

While he can a good person to chit-chat with, his at-ease personality is prone to be overshadowed by his more stoic and militant 'on-business' attitude. Like most other Jedi Shadows, Spencer takes a hard-line stance against the Exiles and other enemies of the Jedi Order. Spencer sees them as well as the Dark Side of the Force as a blight that needs to be destroyed for the good of the Galaxy. As a Jedi Shadow, Spencer strives to be swift and decisive, and to hunt the Order's enemies with extreme prejudice, although at the end of the day he knows he is still a servant of the Light Side, and strives to not give himself to the Dark Side in trying to counter it.

Spencer has shown to have no qualms with questionable acts such as torture or executing prisoners, although he didn't do so lightly. He knows his cause is righteous and the Exiles are a menace threatening the entire galaxy and need to be stopped, but not without going outside the bounds of the Light. He meditates and keeps in mind what he is fighting for. Even if he stares into the abyss, he vowed never to forsake the warm embrace of the Light and not give into the Dark's temptations.

After becoming a Sith and falling to the Dark Side, he feels liberated and enjoys his new found freedom. Spencer still remains easy going and approachable while being a consummate killer. He is at peace with the fact that he's a betrayer to the Jedi and murdered some of their number, and itches for a chance to kill some more for the glory of Darth Evandrus and the new empire he serves.
