Another thing unfortunately is that - at least as an excuse after the fact - there exists the mindset of 'well, if we have them host this massive event, then it puts them under pressure to get into shape or look bad in front of the whole world'. Now to be fair, that sort of thing was how the IOC ensured that every participating nation in the 2012 Summer Olympics sent at least one female member - certain middle eastern nations that otherwise would have refused would be otherwise kicked out. But in that scenario, both the IOC and the nation's own Olympic Committee retain ultimate authority and thus ARE able to back up its word, whereas in this case, half of said authority are in the fact the ones you're trying to put 'under pressure'. In which case they can just ignore the IOC, especially when its a nation like Russia.

Combine that with the picture of a shower head with electrical wires running into it, I don't think I'd shower while in Sochi if I was there.

99.9% of Norway, for one. And a large percentage of the rest of the world.

And so far, Norway has three medals. One gold, one silver, and one bronze (from the same event). US has one gold. Sweden has one silver. Canada has one bronze.
