Etymology

The word Sith means chosen people in the Sith tongue. They later adopted the phrase "Sith Pureblood" after a mass intermingling with humans, as a means to describe their ancestry.

Biology
The Sith are a species of biped humanoids characterized by their leathery red skin, their glowing golden eyes, and their facial bone spurs and tentacles. Though ancient Sith varied greatly in their physical build based on their subspecies, most modern Sith share a physique similar to the average humans or near-human depending on their lifestyle. In contrast to humans, Sith have talons instead of fingernails, razor-sharp teeth, and a pointed tongue.

Breeding
Much like humans and most near-humans, Sith Purebloods reproduce sexually between a male and female specimen. They are naturally polygamous. A Sith child generally develops in the womb for seven months.

Strengths
+ Well-suited to hot climates
+ Higher Force sensitivity on average
+ Predatory instincts
+ Genetically superior physique (Massassi ancestry)

Weaknesses
- Ill-suited to cold climates
- Naturally aggressive and stubborn
- Very tribal

- Cripplingly ambitious

Diet
Native to arid climates, the Sith never went through an agricultural revolution and thus are historically carnivorous. Historically, Sith cuisine was typically composed of shyrack and k'lor slugs, though they adopted new meats to their diet as they expanded beyond their homeworld. Some Sith have been known to engage in cannibalism, both ritualistically and as a means of survival.

Behavior and Temperament

Violent and proud by nature, the Sith are an extremely tribal people. They tend to have a high sense of ambition and constantly seek to gain higher status in their "tribe". Because of their nature, the Sith are naturally susceptible to the lure and corruption of the Dark Side of the Force.

Communication
Sith spoke their own eponymous and ancient language, but they are capable of speaking Basic and do so as their primary trade language.

Culture
The Sith are a people proud of their heritage. Because of their mixed genetics, they place their blood purity above all else, ironically taking the moniker 'purebloods' to reflect this. The more a person can trace their Sith ancestry, the higher their inherent status is among their fellow Sith. Sith tend to look down on aliens and even humans who cannot manipulate the Dark Side.

Sith tend to have a higher connection to the Force, though it is not as universal a trait as it was in ancient times. Those that can manipulate the Force tend to be held in a higher regard than their counterparts. Though many have adopted an orthodox understanding of the Force, Sith traditionally have been a mystical people who used arcane rituals to manipulate the Force.

Highly ambitious, the quest for power has always been a mainstay of Sith culture. In ancient times, the Kissai warlords constantly battled for supremacy against their rivals. Even when a strict caste system ruled their culture, it wasn't unheard of for Sith to rise above their traditional stations in search of glory. As the Sith slowly intermingled between the castes and eventually with humans, the playing field became more even and allowed for more bold power plays between competing Sith lords. Eventually, Marka Ragnos's dethroning of Tulak Hord gave rise to the Kaggath tradition, an honored Sith rite of supremacy.

Legends, especially from the times of the empire, are a common part of Sith culture and are often exchanged orally. The most common legend of the Sith people is the legend of the Sith King Adas, the harbinger of the Sith Empire. Some Sith believe that a strong being, prophesied as tbe Sith'ari (meaning chosen one) would come to them as Adas's heir and make the Sith stronger than they were before.

Traditionally, Sith wore revealing clothing plated with armor, with the metal of the armor serving as a symbol of status. At the height of their empire, the most common metal used was bronze. However, following the collapse of the Old Sith Empire, the use of metals fell out of access and many Sith adopted more concealing attire as they exiled themselves to colder climates. Black became a culturally-significant color for clothing, chosen to mourn their fallen glory and to honor King Adas.

After the fall of their empire, the few Sith that survived went into exile from their homeworld of Korriban. Most Sith are organized into nomadic bands, hunting wildlife, attacking explorers, and raiding settlements to ensure their continued survival. Occasionally, some of the remaining Sith make a pilgrimage back to their home where they remember their loss, and yearn for revenge and a return to glory.

History
In the prehistoric days of the Sith, it is said that Korriban was a world divided by warring tribes ruled by the Kissai priests. These priests used the Force in way some considered to be unnatural to enslave their otherwise physically superior Massassi counterparts. Because of their infighting, the Sith were unable to repel an invasion by an alien race and were thus enslaved. However, Sith named Adas, who was said to have skin as black as the midnight sky, rallied his people into legendary rebellion against the invaders, taking the title of 'Sith King' (Darth in the Sith tongue).

Though Adas would eventually die after freeing his people, he was immortalized through folk stories that portrayed him as an almost-divine figure. His kingdom endured and he was succeeded as the Sith King by his chief lieutenant, Tulak Hord, who expanded the kingdom into an empire through a number of ambitious conquests throughout the Outer Rim. By the end of Hord's reign, the Old Sith Empire's boundaries extended from Korriban to Saleucami. However, his reign did not end peacefully and he was killed by a young, powerful, and ambition Sith named Marka Ragnos, who established a new rite of succession known as the Kaggath.

As Marka Ragnos took the throne, expansion slowly came to a halt and the Sith empire entered a Golden Age of peace and prosperity. Through guile and raw power, he stamped out any hope for his rivals taking the throne from him and lived a long life.

After the death of Marka Ragnos, there was no clear heir and thus a bloody succession battle broke out. The primary contenders were administrator Ludo Kressh and warlord Naga Sadow. Kressh advocated for the continued peace established during Ragnos's rule, though Sadow sought to further expand the Sith Empire's borders. Though Kressh initially had the support of many of Ragnos's followers, Sadow used trickery to rally the people behind him. Capturing a band of explorers traversing through the Outer Rim, he convinced the Sith that they were war scouts from a galactic power that was preparing to attack them. With his support diminished, Ludo Kressh fled to unknown space and Naga Sadow was left as the de facto ruler of the Sith Empire.

Sadow personally led the preemptive strike on the unsuspecting power, and nearly achieved a swift victory. However, in a critical moment, Sadow was betrayed by his guide, Gav Daragon, and the defending forces quickly took the upper hand. With their momentum lost, Sadow retreated to exile on Yavin IV and his remaining forces fell back to Korriban.

It was then that Ludo Kressh returned, taking the opportunity to try claim the throne. However, the vengeful galactic power launched a counterattack and decimated the infighting Sith. But they didn't, and began bombing Korriban and massacring the Sith people en mass. The Old Sith Empire was left in ruins, and the dead were buried in mass graves on the world of Moraband. Those who survived the holocaust fled into exile, leaving their history, their culture, and their homeworld to be forgotten by their descendants and the greater galaxy until generations later...

Impact on the Greater Galaxy
As the Old Sith Empire controlled an impressive amount of space at their height, their influence can be felt all across the Other Rim.

During Hord's conquests, it is said that ancient Sith trained and mated with the original human witches of Dathomir, centuries before Zabraks would immigrate to the planet. Many researchers believe this to be the point where modern Sith are said that have taken their modern form though this can't be proven.

The willful Mandalorian people, who the Sith ruled over for a time, rebelled against their red-skinned tyrants numerous times, perhaps leading to the beginnings of their war-driven culture.

Despite having much of their history and culture wiped from records during Sadow's War, many temples and shrines remain intact on numerous worlds which the Sith ruled. These places, strong in their connection to the Dark Side, contain numerous disjointed records that may help explorers and excavators gain a greater insight into Sith lore.

Intent and Influences
Evil never comes from nothing. There is always prior influence. Hitler took the swastika and built on anti-Semitic beliefs that already existed in Europe for centuries. Stalin was influenced by Marxist teachings. The Dark Jedi are no different in that they need an identity to embrace, and that identity, as we all know from the movies, is the identity of the Sith.

Since the Jedi Exiles would be taking influence from Sith teachings, there would obviously need to be some level of success to justify adopting their ways with their own. Enter the Old Sith Empire. Though not quite as impressive as the later Sith Empire or Palpatine's Galactic Empire, much like how the Roman Empire wouldn't be incredibly mind-blowing in our day like it was in its day, the Old Sith Empire's borders stretched throughout much of the Outer Rim Territories--from Korriban, to Saleucemi, all the way to Dathomir and Mandalorian space. Not only would this give us an explanation as to why the Dark Jedi call themselves Sith, but it also perhaps gives some vague explanation for why the witches of Dathomir practice Force-derived sorcery not unlike Sith alchemy or why the Mandalorians are so violent or why the Zygerrians adopted the slave trade.

The history of the Sith takes heavy derivation to legends, though leaves some questions up in the air for players to fill the blanks, such as who Adas rebelled against or who Naga Sadow attacked and how far the Sith's influenced reached, exactly. Since much of the Sith civilization was destroyed in Naga Sadow's war, it is only natural that the orally-spoken tales of history dilute the details.

The Old Sith Empire no longer exists by the present time in our timeline, but their mark endures and will perhaps provide the Jedi Exiles some incentive to hunt down the last of the Sith. There are very few of them left, and those that remain gather in small, nomadic groups of bandits and marauders who may occasionally make a pilgrimage back to their holy world and remember the destruction that wracked their empire and yearn for those strong enough to return them to glory.
