DESCRIPTION​

A signature modulator is a highly rare and fairly expensive device designed to change the sensor signature and IFF code of a starship or airspeeder without having to switch heavy equipment each time. It can make the ship it is equipped on appear to be any class and type of ship to basic scans, such as those used by blockades. However, it cannot trick any incredibly advanced or thorough scans, and it does not change a ship's visual appearance. Thus, trying to trick a blockade into thinking a freighter is a Super Star Destroyer will not work. However, making an X-Wing appear as a TIE on a scan will most likely end better. It also takes two or three seconds to activate, so turning it on out of enemy sensor range is generally advisable. In addition, a signature modulator cannot remain active during a hyperspace jump and can stay active for no more than six posting rounds at a time. It also will not change or hide other aspects of the ship's status (life forms, thermal readings, etc.). These devices are often used by smugglers to quickly change their IFF codes in order to decrease the chances of them being tracked.

This modification is incompatible with all capital ships.

LEGALITY​

Highly restricted. Signature modulators, although not technically a weapon, are military-grade stealth equipment and, if their presence is detected, will warrant intense scrutiny by authorities. They are usually banned on major worlds.
