DESCRIPTION​

The Utilipede is an old and familiar ship, manufactured initially by Haor Chall Engineering, a corporation founded by the engineering cults of Xi Char to market the products of their "worship," the Utilipede was used as an interplanetary and 'local' transport launch initially used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. After the defeat of the CIS, Seiner purchased the design and manufactory, and added their own name to the vessels designation. Many war-surplus Utilipede wound up on the open market, where they have gone on to serve long careers. Though an ancient design by now, the type can still be found in the hands of pilots and collectors across the Galaxy.

The Utilipede is a simple craft, flown by a crew of 2, plus an integrated astromech data-brain. This brain performs hyperspace calculations in place of a dedicated navicomputer, and can actually fly the ship itself if necessary, although it is not able to perform certain complex evasive maneuvers. If left without frequent memory wipes, the ship will develop a distinct personality which may influence flight characteristics and other functions. The Utilipede can also carry up to 9 tonnes of cargo, in an undercarriage set of cargo 'containers' maglocked to the ship, plus consumables for up to a standard week in space. Performance is good, with a top speed of 60 MGLT and a class 1 hyperdrive. The ship is unarmed, but does possess a light deflector shield for defense.
