Beyond that though... I would personally prefer not to see another trilogy. If anything, I would like more Star Wars movies like Rogue One. Self contained stories that can stand on their own as vignettes that help to expand on the lore of the films.
Haven't they already announced another trilogy? Disney didn't buy Star Wars to make one trilogy and a handful of stand alone films. They are going to continue to pump out movies for the foreseeable future.
I am totally fine with that. I know some people are worried about over saturation but I would point to the MCU. They continue to put out quality movie after quality movie.
I wouldn't mind one more trilogy down the line, in maybe 15-20 years. Let them get the standalone movies and the standalone trilogy be made, then give it a breather. Sure, you can probably have tv shows/books/etc., but no movies. Let the anticipation build again.
They'll make one more after this one. Star Wars has always come in trilogies; this would be a trilogy of trilogies, actually. Wonder if that will have significance.
Regardless, I'm betting Disney will milk this for all its worth. We'll get more stand-alone movies, I'm guessing, and possibly more TV shows. My guess is that Disney won't be able to resist prequels, either; we may get a look at what the Old Republic (long before the Clone Wars) was like. I'm also thinking that Disney will probably try to get a different director for each one, as that's what they seem to be doing. Makes things a bit more interesting.
I can't say if I'm excited about that or not, yet. Hopefully Disney keeps to the standard of quality and production value that they've set.
I agree with most of the folks above - I'd rather see stand-alone movies exploring the universe.
However, if they go to the Old Republic, I'll gladly give them all my money for trilogies or however they want to do it. All the SW: TOR game videos made me wish I could watch a full-length movie along those lines, with a darker touch.
