There had to be an easier way to make money.

But, this was certainly one of the more enjoyable ways she'd manage to find anyhow. With Life Day celebrations lighting up the planet, it seemed a safe place to stow herself away for a while she kept on the move. How anyone would ever catch her amidst the crowds gathered at Rowrakruk she didn't know. And that put her at ease, the first break she'd managed to catch the whole time she'd been on the run. This place felt like a well deserved rest.

That was, at least, until she'd been given the opportunity to throw herself into one of the festivals boat races. Suddenly now her chance to share in the food and drink had been swapped out in favour of her learning how to steer one of the wobbling crafts. The Wookie trying to explain wasn't exactly well versed in basic, nor she in shyriiwook. Miming ensued.

Standing now at the starting line she wasn't exactly sure she'd found her sea legs,

"Well alrighty, good luck then, all of you!" she called out to her competitors as she stepped out onto her boat.

Time to sail.

Skylar had come to the homeworld of the Wookies for his first celebration of Life Day, something he'd been meaning to partake in since he'd come into his manhood. The planet was so different from Concord Dawn and he found the furred humanoids to be just as honorable as he had been led to believe. He was even comfortable enough to wander around outside of his armor, kept safely in the home he was sharing with a native family, and instead wore the crimson and azure garb that he preferred outside of the Beskar'gam. Perhaps it was the fact that he was furred himself, being a Shistavanen, that he was getting along so well with these far taller denizens of the trees. It was a surprise when one asked him if he wanted to partake in one of the races that were popular at this time. It would be a test of skill, something that a true Mandalorian never shied away from.

As he approached his offered vessel, having been given a short tutorial on how to use the old-fashioned craft, he saw his first opponent for the race. A human woman, though her allegiance was unknown, was still enough to give him pause. He didn't trust those outside of his people, especially after what had happened to his parents and home in the past, so it was with great effort that he kept his hackles from raising and a growl from escaping his muzzle. He gave her a small nod in response to her call of good luck, not trusting himself to say anything to her at the moment as he didn't want to be unkind to someone he didn't know. He wondered who the last person to join their race would be. He slipped into his craft as he waited for the race to start, his blood starting to heat as it always did.

"Be patient, Greybok! They haven't said 'go' yet!" Twobee rattled as Greybok pulled up to the starting line in his rickety little Wookiee fishing boat. The Wookiee barked angrily, fur bristling as he did, and seemed to be visibly restraining himself from smashing something. "Well, I'm sorry to burst your very large bubble, but you have to follow the rules this time. You can't just fire the engines like you fired at that droid which wasn't your property on Tatooine! And let's not forget the poor girl you just put in the medic's tent!"

Greybok quieted down but remained grumbling. He needed money to upgrade his tech. So far, he was the most high-tech Wookiee in the entire Galactic Alliance—perhaps even the galaxy. He intended to keep that title. But what would he buy? Flamethrower? Jetpack? One of those big-metal fists with pistons? There were too many options to consider and it was clear that Twobee was becoming agitated with him zoning out.

"Pay attention, meat-for-brains," she scowled. "They're going to start the race in a moment and you need to be focused or you're going to dash us against the rocks! And then I'll be stuck on a planet full of Wookiees for all eternity! The horror!" @Nightfall @Insalius

Skylar wasn't sure what exactly it was about the boat that just seemed to click with him, but after just looking around at the controls for a few moments as the other contestants got ready to go. When the race started, he took to the piloting of the craft like a fish in the river they were sailing on. He managed to steer away from the dock and the other boats without hitting any of them, pulling into an early lead position. Something about the feeling of sailing such a boat in an old fashioned way was invigorating, filling him with vim and vigor as he looked at his opponents. He knew he wasn't too far ahead, of course, but that was all part of the rush from the challenge. He waved to his opponents, now a lot more comfortable around them, in a way he hoped they would take in a friendly way as opposed to a mocking one as most would probably think. There was honor in what they were doing, a pure contest of skills, and he hoped they also felt the rust from this trial.

As the start sounded Aila still found herself going over how to control the thing, making sure she'd understood all that the Wookie had tried to show her before. At least for now though, it seemed she was getting the hang of it, and the river seemed to like her too. Beneath her feet as she pulled herself from the starting line a pounding current found its way to the back of her boat, throwing her forwards and sending her shooting past her competitors,

"Waaahooo!" she cried, sailing by.

Aila could only laugh as she did, the speed was so unexpected. Holding her hands firmly she tried to keep control. If she could keep this up then she'd be a shoe in, though something told her that it couldn't stay this way forever. And this was just the start of the race, too early now to be counting her winnings. At least either way she could eat free another night at the festival, find a way off this place with the masses that had come in.

For now though, eyes on the river, and the finish line.

Greybok was off to a great start. He pulled out from the docks without a hitch and had managed to snag an early lead. But he knew better than either of the other two racers how quickly this river could throw obstacles in your path.

"Watch for rocks and debris, Wookiee," Twobee warned. "I do not want to sink to the bottom of this infernal river with you."

The feeling was mutual. But, once again, Grey was in it to win it. He wanted that cash prize. The rebels could use the upgraded tech that money could bring. And, besides, he wasn't about to let two non-Wookiees beat him on a Wookiee holiday. He snarled a battle cry and revved the engines of his shite little fishing boat. This race was only just beginning.

Seeing the others moving along the river surprisingly smoothly made Aila more than a little worried, she would have thrown her hands up trying to pilot the damn thing as she edged herself between the others, trying to cut between them as the river tightened at one corner. If she could navigate the middle of them they'd be stuck on the sides for a moment, and she could try and seize the lead.

Didn't mean she'd maintain it though.

However, for now she shot forwards, adjusting her directions as the river started getting a little more dangerous. More than a few people lined the banks, drinking, eating, watching, shouting, fighting. River be damned she was having fun. And for now, she had the lead. Fingers crossed she'd keep it.

It was not remorse that filled Skylar's heart as the other two soared past him, it was elation at a good challenge. To win so easily wouldn't bring much honor, after all, and wasn't a good test of one's skill. Turning back to the controls, the Shistavanen did what he could to catch up with his competitors. The others were being left in their wake, meaning there were only two that he would have to defeat in order to claim the true prize. They were skilled, though, with both the human woman and the Wookie managing to keep just ahead of the Mandalorian as the spray from their boats left a rainbow-tinted mist in their wake. That sight alone would be something to remember after everything was done, though for now he focused on the race. He'd be on the lookout for turns or obstacles that he could use to his advantage. Eventually one of them had to slip up.

Surging ahead, Aila had to laugh to herself as the waves crashed at the side of her boat, sending her careeening down the ever more rocking river. Against her competitors she was doing alright, keeping close for the lead. But she didn’t have it yet, the chance to sneak past and clearly put herself ahead hadn’t appeared. With some lack of consideration, she threw herself ahead, trying to thread the needle throw a particularly rocky section of the river.

It was not to be.

A crack, a thud, as her boats nose thwacked against some rock that had been buried beneath the waves. Her boat thrown to the side, spinning around so much that it faced the wrong direction, crashing into another pair of angular stones that kept better sailors away. Aila herself, the slight thing that she was, was thrown along with it, her hands loose from the controls she tumbled forward and damn near off the edge of the ship, with more than a few bruises to show for it.. It’d take a small miracle to get her back in the competition after this, if she could get herself back moving at all.
