She is wiser that her age would suggest, and not stupid by any accounts. Shani's parents owned a furniture shop in Shili, but the planet is plagued with a strong imperial presence, which heavily oppressed the natives. So, with Shani's mother heavily pregnant, they sold the business to a greedy human man, who left them with little but enough to buy passage to Denon. Shortly after arriving, Shany's father started doing odd jobs, small muggle runs, and the likes, for a crime lord. After she was born, Shani's mother took a job as a dancer in a local cantina. Shany grew up in a difficult environment, her mother increasingly strained from her job where abuse and little pay was constant. There was a lot of tension at home, her father going away for long, and more often. As she found out much later in life, Shani was able to sense other's feelings particularly well even at that age.
At 7, Shani was already left alone to fend for herself most of the time, so she was forced, by hunger and loneliness, to wonder around the city, looking for food to steal. Then, her mother was accidentally killed in a cantina fight, and her father never returned home..
Desperate, hungry and alone, Shani was found wondering the streets by a kind older woman, that took pity and took her in. The woman that adopted her was a tailor and taught her the art. Shani discovered she was a much quicker learner than most people. But Shani found a thirst for knowledge too, so from the age of 10, after helping the woman with the business, she often snuck in the local library. She started reading about galactic history, mostly about wars and conflict, about the Mandalorians. She quickly realised how much suffering there is in the galaxy. She also read something about Mandalorians. But she also enjoyed reading poetry, reminding her that that there is beauty even in words.All this made her wiser than her age would suggest, and quite eloquent.
Shani continued to help with the business to earn some money, while still trying to learn as much as she could about the galaxy. She was always polite, as lady taught her to be with costumers, and the neighborhood started to like her. Shani was making friends, helped by her ability to sense other people's emotion, something she was beginning to come to terms with. She started making her own clothes as well, which she enjoyed doing. Shani became good at conversation, and met people from different backgrounds, and so became interested in discovering other cultures.
At 13, a small-time crime lord noticed her when going back from library, and started following, thinking he got himself a lovely slave..Watched as she entered house and left. Next day, Shani again left after business hours to go to the library. When she returned, the Crime lord sprung his trap, and Shani was knocked unconcious, her protector was quickly killed, and the crime lord began to transfer her to his ship. But Shani's luck was about to change. As the lackeys carried her onto the ship, a passing Jedi Master saw what was happening, and interceded, killing the grunts, and freeing the girl. Coming to her senses, Shani thanked the Jedi. But he sensed her abilities, and offered to train her in the ways of the force. Shani, very keen on travelling around and discovering more of the galaxy, accepted.
Shani spent the next 5 years training with her master, focusing on force abilities that would complement the skills she already partly learned, such as force empathy, force sense, and others such as healing, something she also seem to be good at. Her master also spent great effort in teaching her the basics of combat and self defense, although she isn't as proficient in those skills as the others. However, she showed great promise in diplomacy, as they spent years going planet to planet, discovering cultures, and looking for knowledge. Her Master saw her thirst for knowledge, and encouraged it, explaining that knowledge is vital in fostering understanding and preventing more war and conflict. As she had no idea how to pilot a ship previously, her master taught her the basics of such. With plenty of practice, Shani learned how to pilot a ship to a decent standard, although she by no means an expert.Her master also saw to it that her previously learned skills, such as stealth and survival, were expanded, by sending her to planets on her own to scout ahead. Although she didn't enjoy these exercise, being a social creature, she understood that they were essential, and made sure she would make as much effort as possible, and learn from each.
