ALCOR BAC
SENATOR OF ALDERAAN
“I used to write things for friends. There was this girl I had a crush on, and she had a teacher she didn't like at school. I had a real crush on her, so almost every day I would write her a little short story where she would kill the teacher in a different way.” - Alcor Bac
After the death of his father and brother, Alcor developed a habit of masking a lot of his feelings for people and situations in comedic sarcasm. Very few picked up on this, as he did not share his tragic past with many people. Despite this, Alcor was a humble man who never truly wanted to take too much credit for anything, even if the credit towards him was due. He felt it was best to share in the credit, as he believed that when one person took credit for something large they were shunning a great deal of people from praise and historical remembrance.
Alcor was a staunch supporter of the Jedi, as he always believed that they were the Republic's greatest supporters and that they would do anything for the people of the galaxy. He stated many times that had he been sensitive to the Force, he would have undoubtedly wanted to be trained in the ways of the Jedi Knights.
Unlike many politicians, Alcor put in a great effort to remain as honest to himself and his people as he possibly could. While he knew that stretching the truth or making up his own truths was required in certain situations, especially when things became hostile, he felt that remaining true to his principles was the best course of action he could take. He had grown up around and served with politicians who constantly lied not only to those around them but to their people as well. When Alcor first took office as Senator of Alderaan, he helped push for a greater system of checks and balances to ensure that such lies would not continue and would not help to destroy the democratic system that he had sworn to uphold.
Alcor was also said to have had a shrewd and objective mind for governing. During his time as Senator, he believed that there were too many Galactic Senators who chose to gain power simply for the sake of having power. Many times, he asked them to resign or change their style of politics. On a few occassions, Alcor was able to convince their planetary leaders to expel them from office, proving that being a member of the Galactic Government was a no-nonsense affair. Those who chose to remain in office generally did change their acts, lest they also face expulsion from their planetary leaders. The methods proved to be effective in multiple cases.
HISTORY
"I used to be a baby, but you know what? I walked it off!" - Alcor Bac
Alcor Bac was born into the notable and political Bac family of Alderaan to Benton Bac and Esselia Tenera. As his parent’s third child, them having had a boy and a girl before him, he was born and raised in Aldera, the planet’s capital city, only a few kilometers away from the royal palace of King Antilles. His father was a member of the Alderaanian legislature and his mother was a professor and the Vice-President of Academia at the prestigious University of Alderaan, also in the capital city. His parents were devout members of society who valued intellectualism and taught Alcor, as well as his brother Daunus and his sister Mariana, that they could question the methods of their planetary government and the Galactic Republicwhile still being loyal members of society.
As a boy, Alcor was given many opportunities that other children were not. He was able to meet the King of Alderaan and stand in the legislature many times in his early years and, because of this, became the envy of many of the students in his class. While most of the children who envied him ignored their envious emotions, others were outright jealous. Because of this, Alcor was picked upon numerous times by schoolyard bullies. Alcor came to resent his family name, not wanting to be associated with well known ancestors. In order to avoid anymore problems, his family relocated him to a private school that was connected with the university where he no longer had any problems with being the envy of other students.
When he was twelve years old, Alcor’s father and brother made their way to a leadership summit in the westernmost part of the planet. When they were returning, there was a malfunction in their shuttle, causing it to crash into the lake just outside of the capital city. Emergency crews rushed to the scene hoping to save them, but they were two late. By the time the crews arrived, Benton and Daunus were dead. The loss of his father and older brother proved to be emotionally destructive to Alcor. He began to lose touch with his friends, even though he saw them almost every day, as he found the transition into his new fatherless and brotherless life extremely difficult. He began to lose himself into fantasy novels and games, though he also began to take an interest in military and political history so he could understand his family legacy better.
After a few more years, Alcor was able to come to terms with the death of his father and brother, though by doing so he tried to keep a more light-hearted and sometimes less-than-serious nature. Despite this, he was accepted into the Republic Military Academy just like many other members of his family had been and would be, including his cousin Artemis Bac. He was on the intercollegiate Grav-ball and Jetboarding teams during three out of the four years he was in school, was an academically distinguished cadet who was in the top five percent of his class for the first three years and was a Cadet Captain during his fourth year. Though his studies mainly included military doctrine, tactics and leadership, as well as law, he took a great interest in the Jedi Order as they had taken great strides to maintain peace within the galaxy.
Alcor graduated towards the top of his class and gave one of the many commencement addresses at graduation. After graduation, he was given three weeks of break time before beginning his first tour of duty. Two days into his break, he met Aletra Marz in a market in Aldera and was immediately taken with her. He saw her many times during his three week break, and he felt that he had fallen in love with her. She told Alcor the same thing, and he asked her to marry him. Only two weeks later, they were married at a lakeside wedding with only a few family and friends.
Because he wanted to be able to spend more time with his beautiful new bride, Alcor requested a change of assignment and was granted permission to study to become a trial lawyer as part of the Republic Navy's Judge Advocate General branch. Four years later, he graduated from law school and began a ten year career in the program where he became a distinguished and decorated officer with many awards and commendations.
When he was thirty years old, Aletra became pregnant with his child. Alcor was thrilled, as he had always wanted a family of his own. Nine months later, a baby girl was born and they named her Elizabeth Bac. Shortly after the birth, Alcor's time as a Judge Advocate General ended and he went to work for a law firm on Alderaan. Shortly thereafter, however, he asked Aletra how she would feel about him running for the seat of Senator of Alderaan. After many weeks of discussion, Aletra agreed and Alcor formally announced his bid for Senator of Alderaan.
During the campaign, Alcor made his way across Alderaan hoping to secure enough votes to win the seat. However, despite his best efforts, Alcor lost the seat to someone he percieved to be a corrupt politician from the local planetary legislature. Alcor was disappointed, though he knew he did all that he could to secure the position. Shortly after his loss, Aletra became pregnant once again, but three months later she suffered a tragic miscarriage, sending both her and Alcor into a brief depression where they tried to deal with the loss. One year later, they tried again and Aletra became pregnant once more. Despite their fears, a baby boy was born nine months later and they named him Alcor Bac II.
Two years later, the man who beat him in the senatorial election was indicted on corruption charges and was forced to resign. The King of Alderaan asked Alcor to step in and complete the rest of the term, and with the blessing of his wife Alcor agreed. He served as Senator of Alderaan for four years before finally running for re-election where he won, and he continued to win each time he ran for re-election. As Senator of Alderaan, he pushed for a stronger military presence for the Republic, despite the more pacifist nature of many of the people of Alderaan. Even so, he felt that the Alsakan Union would once again attempt to wrestle control of the Republic away from Coruscant he knew that the Republic would have to be prepared.
During his second term, his cousin Artemis married Supreme Chancellor Relana Isolde Tanoor. A few months later, they had a child together. Alcor always felt somewhat awkward that he was serving under his cousin's wife, though he always managed to keep those awkward feelings to himself. He continued to mask them in sarcasm, much like he did for many other things in the Senate, giving him the nickname of "Senate Joker". Even so, he had a high approval rating on Alderaan and always managed to get the job done and continued to do so throughout his time in the Senate.
