Hello everyone. As many of you know, Frank has chosen to step down as the faction leader of the Hutt Cartel. We have yet to appoint a new faction leader for a key reason that I want to lay out to you all, as well as what we would like to do about it.

The staff considers the Hutt Cartel, to date, something of a failed experiment. Throughout this timeline, we've tried to introduce wildcard factions into the mix that weren't Jedi, Sith/Imperial, or Alliance/Rebels. The first was the Chiss Ascendancy, which was a decidedly failed faction. The second, of course, is the Hutt Cartel. The idea of the faction was that it could potentially play both sides and influence the war in greedy ways, by profiting from and even attacking both sides of the war. The direction of the faction would ultimately be up to its members.

Unfortunately, that never went anywhere, and we're left with a faction whose place in the timeline remains a mystery to us and, probably, most people. While the Jedi, the Sith, and the Rebellion have certainly had their fair share of activity issues, they all have clear places in the timeline where they can have an obvious impact on the war. The Hutts never found that place, so we're left wondering if it still makes sense for the Hutts to be a main faction or of it's time to call it a day and make the Hutt Cartel an independent faction.

Before we do that, however, we want to offer the members of the Hutt Cartel the opportunity to submit a plan for how the Hutts can be a legitimate war-based presence in the timeline, which we anticipate will be ending by the end of the year. The person with a plan for what the final four months or so of the Hutt Cartel could look like will likely become the new faction leader, with the expectation that they implement that plan immediately. You will be expected to hit the ground running, without much of a honeymoon period.

I do have to emphasize that we're serious about potentially making the Hutt Cartel an independent faction. If we don't think any of the submitted plans are credible, we won't simply choose the best of the worst. If none of them can credibly lead to a faction that is involved in the war, we will make it an independent faction.

Please submit your plans to me no later than the end of this Wednesday, August 19th. Thanks!

While I don’t feel that I currently have the experience to be an effective FL I do feel that as a fairly active member of the Cartel I would like to at least give some input for consideration by the admins and anyone else who has a hand in this decision process.

While the Cartel may not currently have a major role in the war efforts, it has managed to overall be a relatively active faction at least since I have been here. It seems that if it is turned into an Indie faction it will likely kill most (if not all) activity for the faction. Even if it doesn’t play a major role in the war wouldn’t it be better to keep it given that it has 57 active characters and people seem to genuinely enjoy it, which is what RP is really about?

Those are simply my feelings. I don't know if others feel that way, but I personally don't want to see the faction dwindle off without someone saying something.

I am quite surprised that people think the Cartel is not benefiting from the war that is going to occur. I was under the impression, mostly due to this thread that the Cartel was going to be benefiting from the war that is going to occur between the Imperium and the Rebellion, and it was controlling a lot of things behind the scenes.

I feel like dissolving the Hutt Cartel into the Rebellion, espcially with Mjolla as its leader would be the best course of action at this point. As it stands currently, the two people who were best positioned to take over the Cartel in the absence of Frank (Bee and Kyle) are heavily involved with the Rebellion. Both IC and OOC I think that the only logical course of action is to merge the Cartel with the Rebellion.

This also would make the game, for the rest of the timeline Imps vs. Rebels. It's very Star Wars and it would make it easier for both sides to engage in combat without concerns about one side being too dominant. I am curious to see what people have to say about this suggestion.

That said, if the Administration wishes to keep the Cartel sovereign so that it can act as a sort of swing vote/group in the galaxy's conflicts that makes total sense as well. If that is how it is to be, then I think Norbie (Nor'baal, Norbs, etc) should be given the job.

@Brandon Rhea @Bee @The Kyzer @Loco @ZayPat @Ben @Nor'baal

Of course, Like Sree, I also nominate myself with a long list of shady and disruptive positions held in the past as my resume.

Thanks Lucid, and some great suggestions for the rebellion and Hutts to a combined.

I've PM'ed Bac my plan for the Cartel, which would actually see the Cartel unofficially aligning itself to the Rebellion, with several of the families funneling credits and materials towards the rebellion so as to make them a more "active military force" so as to allow the Hutts and Rebels to coordinate their attacks, whilst at the same time giving the Hutts wriggle room in the event they start losing.

Much like the Hutts did in the Vong war, making it so they have multiple options for escape and back peddling/bargaining. Whoever wins the war, the Hutts under my FL'ness (yes that is a word) would stand to gain from either sides victory, as well as profiting from the overall war effort leading up to this point.

From an IC perspective, the Hutts would be aiming the rebellion at the empires flank, using them as a distraction for their own attack.

I think dissolving the cartel would be a disservice to the writers in this site that love to commit crime. The cartel has and will continue to play a pivotal roll in the story line. For what it's worth as a member of the current leadership team I have already submitted an application for the FL ship. I didn't want to add to the (in my opinion) negative publicity that this post was drawing to the faction but since it can't be avoided there you go.

I will not reveal my plans until a final decision has been made by the staff. I have full confidence in their ability to do what best for the site even if I don't agree with the way this was handled. Please be mindful of Bac's post. If you desire the position don't sound off here. Send him a pm with your plan. After all my fellow hutt lovers talk is cheap.
