Schools Checking Myspace

Please give your reasons.

I think that it is stupid because the schools should stay out of our life. What we do out of school is our business and none of theirs. This one girl in my school got suspended because she took a picture with her mom in their house and there was a bottle of wine open in the background. This other girl got detentions for dress code...in a myspace picture!!

However, if you have signed a contract with athletics, and there is a picture of you smoking or drinking or doing drugs, then it's fine.

Yes. Recentley in my school district. A Catholic School suspended 2 girls for haveing a myspace.

Also it should be counted freedom of speech. No matter were you are exactley. In short you should not be suspended for it...

Who the hells stupid enough to check your myspace at school anyways? Emailing sure but checking your myspace, my schools main office for vice princ. has a screen that shows everyones computer screens in the school... But you should'nt get suspended for it

No these people got suspended for it and they didn't go into it at school at all.

maybe the school thought "hey let's see if these kids are using myspace" and then went on myspace to see if they could catch any students putting themselves all over the internet *shrugs*

Well they're just using the Myspace's to catch kids drinking or doing drugs but that's completely against the law. The school isn't the government here, and they can only control what you do on school grounds.

Schools try to control the entire population that attend them in every way shape and form. If they wanted to, they'd have people sitting outside your house watching and listening to you 24/7 and if you do one thing against school policy they'd suspend you....BS, I know, but they can(Illegally of course) and probably do do that.

At my school theres a bunch of people that have Xangas and a few of the teachers have them, and the dumbass kids comment on the teachers Xangas then the teachers visit the students and go to other students and it only gets worse from there, alot of my teachers are cool though and dont care about kids who drink and stuff...

This is the first I've heard of it but with school violence increasing and worries, I can see why some schools are doing it. Don't know how they are doing it legally though.

I don't even use myspace often, and if you're stupid enough to give out all that information so that your school could actually find you, then you deserve suspenion in my opinion, lol

They blocked it on our school computers so we just use a proxy server...

Its friggin bull. Ok block it at school but when at home they have no right. If I were one of those victims I would call the police or someone who takes care of the rules in a school.
