DESCRIPTION
The S-100 Stinger-class starfighter is an antique snubfighter originally manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. A relic of the Old Republic, the basic design of the Stinger is believed to date all the way back to the Sith War, although there are reports of some remaining in service as late as the early Mandalorian Crusades. The Stinger was considered one of the most advanced combat spacecraft of its era, and was a symbol of Republic resolve that good and democracy should triumph over evil and totalitarianism.

The Stinger is a simple craft, even by the standards of its day, consisting of an oblong fuselage 11.5 meters in length, with 2 bent wings, each tipped with a medium blaster cannon. The Stinger is also equipped with a 4-shot concussion missile launcher, giving it a limited strike capability. Setting it apart from many craft of its day was the inclusion of light deflector shields and a class 4 hyperdrive, features which gave the little snubfighter a distinct range and durability advantage over much of the competition.

The Stinger does have some distinct shortcomings, of course, especially compared to modern craft. Although its shields do give it a measure of durability, for example, the Stinger's hull is composed of lightweight bondite, with a minimum of eternal bracing. As a result, the craft is famously flimsy, with even a light blaster cannon having no trouble bringing one down after its shields fail. The Stinger's own blaster cannons are also not particularly effective against modern shields, making it a poor choice of mount on most modern battlefields. Finally, the vessel's hyperdrive is fairly slow compared to most modern snubfighters, and its stock navicomputer is of a badly obsolete type, a fact which was commented on even when the Stinger was new.

S-100 Stingers are these days not often seen outside museums and private collections, or the lower strata of junkyard worlds. Even the most backward planetary defense militias and the cheapest pirates do not count them as part of their inventory. Functional examples are still highly prized for their history, however.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Though badly obsolete, S-100 Stingers are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends into our site's fanon.
