Original concept and images of the species belong to RyuujinZERO's "Avali" race mod for Starbound.

At a glance, the Reshekki look like large feathered reptiles. For the most part, this is true - standing between 3-4 feet tall (.8-1.2 meters), they have the same general body structure as a raptor, sporting small feathers across their body in place of scales. These feathers are primarily a muted color such as various greys, browns, or blacks, and accented by one or two bright, vibrant colours. Spreading out from under their arms are small wings; however, because of their size, the Reshekki are unable to fly with them. Instead, they use their powerful legs to launch themselves great distances, using their wings to glide even further. A Reshekki snout is a great deal smaller and more rounded than a conventional raptor's. Inside are two rows of small, needle-sharp teeth, equally capable of ripping through flesh or combing berries off a branch.
They possess large, round eyes, and four elongated ears. These ears each have their own set of muscles, allowing the Reshekki to move each independently of the others. Between their ears at the back of the head lies a tuft of feathers, slightly resembling hair. At the tip of each arm lies a clawed three-fingered hand. Reshekki stand almost fully upright; to counterbalance their weight, they sport a long, feather-tufted tail.

At a glance, it is difficult to tell the difference between male and female Reshekki. The only two major differences between gender is that female voices are much higher pitched, and also possess longer feathers on the backs of their heads. Further differences can be found through the dress code in their culture.
The Reshekki have relatively short lifespans. They reach adolescence at 7 and maturity at 14; most do not live longer than 60 years old.

Breeding
Both male and female Reshekki posess cloacal vents. Reshekki only take one mate for the entirety of their lives, but can produce offspring at the same time each year until their mid-50s. Females are only able to produce a single egg at a time each breeding period. When the eggs are produced, they are cared for in a communal incubator. When they hatch, the young Reshekki's plumage is entirely muted, lacking the vibrant shades adults possess. They also lack properly formed wings, which slowly grow in time as they mature.
The hatchlings are then cared for by their parents for the first several years of their lives. This time of life is critical to Reshekki, during which they teach the basis of their culture to their young.

Strengths
The Reshekki have excellent hearing. Their four ears can all move independantly of each other and allow them to detect the exact location of a sound, even from a distance. This initially led to the belief that Reshekki used the Force to track targets from outside line of sight, but this was later proved false.
The species also possess sharp claws and teeth, which they can use defensively if they have to.

Weaknesses
Reshekki eyes lack a true iris, making their eyesight limited, especially in extremely bright locations. This forces them to rely on their sense of hearing, especially in close combat situations. Because of this, Reshekki aren't terribly bad at marksmanship in close to mid ranges, but they make for poor snipers when unaided with augmented directional hearing systems.

Diet
The Reshekki are omnivores, eating whatever is available to them. As a general rule, however, they prefer berries and various plants that grow in abundance around their homes. Interestingly, their livers are unable to properly process more than a small amount of alcohol. Too much liquor will induce severe alcoholic poisoning very quickly and kill them unless medical aid is provided immediately.

Behavior/Temperament
This species is generally friendly to outsiders, so long as they don't intrude upon their established way of life. Because of this, most Reshekki dislike the Jedi for their practice of taking younglings from their parents at an early age.

Communication
The Reshekki speak their own language, consisting of variations of animalistic clicks, whistles, barks, and growls. This language is practically impossible for humans to imitate, as the language incorporates high-pitched sounds that human ears can't detect. Some have theorized that the communication system is also based on ear movement, but this speculation is unconfirmed.
It is easy for a Reshekki to learn how to understand Basic and speak it fluently if learned from a young age. However, if a Reshekki does not attempt to learn Basic until much later in life, they will end up with an extremely thick accent, and sometimes even stunted speech as a result.

Culture
The Reshekki way of life is a very unique system. Almost their entire culture is based around a form of competitions or tests, called "Trials".

An example of Reshekki military and cultural garb.
The earliest years of a Reshekki, from incubation to education, are considered to be sacred, and interfering with these stages will provoke hostility. After an egg has been laid, it is brought to the local incubator, where designated "hatchers" keep watch over the hatchlings. The eggs gestate for approximately 45 days. The actual hatching period takes around 24 hours, during which the hatchers will inform the family. When the hatchling is free of the egg, the parents will take the young Reshekki home and raise it for the next 3 years before sending them to school.
In the first year of their education, Reshekki young (called chicks) will learn the base of a broad variety of topics. In the second year, they are given their first "trial". This test is very broad and can sometimes take several weeks to complete, as it is used to determine what field of education the chicks will enter into. Once the chicks have chosen their field, they continue their education until graduation around the age of 12.
Reshekki ranks and positions are entirely decided through Trials, whether they be for a managerial position in a lab, or rule of an entire settlement. These trials are tests based on whatever field the position is. For example, in the military, this would be based on combat prowess. Trials for positions of authority and leadership are conducted between 2-3 contestants and are tested on wisdom and leadership ability in addition to whatever else the position entails. Age, gender, and previous experience are not taken into account during the Trials and are purely tests of skill.
Although the elderly Reshekki may no longer hold any official positions, they are still greatly revered for their experience and wisdom.

History
The Reshekki are a very young race to the galaxy, only having begun trade with the Republic within the last 3 centuries. Thousands of years prior, the Neti dominated the planet with their civilization. However, once the previous occupants decided to leave, this allowed the Reshekki room to evolve, grow, and expand into what they are now.
When they first became a fully-fledged sentient race, their original method of government was a monarchy. However, this structure only lasted a few generations. Bloodline bickering devolved into base fighting and "survival of the fittest" mentality as clusters broke away from the monarchy and established leadership amongst their own spheres of influence. Tensions increased as each self-proclaimed monarch claimed ownership over the throne. A great and terrible civil war broke out that lasted for several years, with no resolution in sight. The war came to a peak as the cluster that housed the great throne was burned to the ground, razing the lush forest for miles around.

When all seemed lost, a slumbering Neti that had remained behind awoke, greatly distressed at the ruthless infighting and constant bloodshed. Taking on the guise of an elderly Reshekki sage, he began a trek across the planet, showing them their folly and teaching a more peaceful path - the Way of the Trials. Under this new philosophy, a revolution began, uniting the Reshekki once more. It was collectively decided that a ruler would be chosen to lead each individual cluster - a single monarchy to rule the planet was too much responsibility, and they would not risk repeating their past again. The fire that destroyed the cluster of the throne killed everything within its radius, caking the ground in ash and choking out the earth, leaving no room for new life. This circle of ruin is called the Desolate Grounds, and it remains a constant reminder of their past failure.

Planet

The Reshekki home planet is Myrkr, which lies on the outskirts of the Inner Rim. They live in settlements called "clusters"; smaller clusters house around 100 inhabitants, while the largest contain upwards of 3,000. Due to their extreme preference of lush environments, Reshekki clusters on other planets are rare, the largest of which is on Kashyyyk.

Clusters are typically suspended in tall, thick trees deep in the forests of their homeworld. Despite their rustic nature, these homes, also known as "pods", are very comfy and well-protected from the elements. Most clusters consist of three large central pods: one for incubation, one for leadership, and one for education. In the center of these three pods lies a large marketplace where the Reshekki can peddle their goods and conduct trade. Surrounding these larger pods are the villagers' homes, and on the outskirts lie landing pads for transports.

Technology
Reshekki technology is surprisingly advanced for such a young species, attributing to their high intellect and ingenuity. The most intriguing aspect of their technology is their military. Due to the dense amounts of metals in the plants and trees of Myrkr, basic scanning technology proves inadequate for simple navigation and tracking. To offset these drawbacks, their technology is largely based on augmenting their already superior sense of hearing.

Intent
To add an entirely new non-human race with an intriguing, unique lifestyle and philosophy. I believe Reshekki characters will add flavour to the roleplay on this site. Also, I found the planet Myrkr and upon realizing that it was abandoned by the Neti and no longer inhabited by a sentient race, I decided to fill that gap. Near-human races abound on this forum, and I wanted to provide an aesthetically pleasing species that people would enjoy playing. Several other people have also expressed interest in playing as one.

...And maybe also because they're frickin adorable and I want one.

@Shalken
Strengths and Weaknesses- You wrote they have special sensory organs that detects harmful noises (extremely loud) in order to relax the eardrum. So wouldn't this be considered a weakness also? Given that, wouldn't engines, other weaponry, and really anything else that is at a harmful noise level also cause them to more or less go deaf? Then in keeping in mind, what about species who frequently engage in situations where there is a harmful noise level, I could see there being chronic deafness.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought about that. I'll just remove the feature entirely.

I'll just go without it. Might have led to some confusion or weird scenarios. I've edited accordingly.
