Personality

Renald drives a hard bargain. He his serious and business like especially when he is on the job or discussing business with a potential employer or client. He is not one to be trifled with or to be taken advantage of. He doesn't have a temper per say and he is able to keep his anger under control most of the time. Despite the fact that he feels them he rarely shows emotions. Renald tends to be practical, logical, and is not one for small talk. He prefers to cut to the chase and not waste time especially when business is concerned. His demeanor used to change when he is around the ladies or in a cantina (as long as business is not involved in any way). In these cases he used to be quite charming. However it now takes a lot to get him to smile and even more to get a mere chuckle out of him. He has always had a strong curiosity especially for Galactic history and planetary cultures, although the events that transpired, which led to his depression, took most of this curiosity out of him.

Strengths: Renald is an exceptional Pilot. He is also a very skilled mechanic especially with ships. He learns fast and is quick witted. He is also pretty good shot.

Weakness: His security skills are also not terribly good. If he does drink more than he should mainly to cope with his loss, however since becoming a Ranger he has cut down on his drinking. Sometimes nightmares of the events that nearly crippled him still haunt his dreams causing him to loose sleep and sometimes wake up in a cold sweat.

History

Family History

Renald comes from a long family history of smugglers, pirates, and mercenaries. The first being traceable back to the Treaty of Coruscant and the Great Galactic war around 3653 BBY, a smuggler named Devar Tevurune, according to a datacron that Renald found, when his grandfather died, in an ancient lock box that was always kept at the foot of his grandfather’s bed. There is very little family history record from after that time until the Galactic Civil War when there is record of an ancestor who changed the family name, slightly, in order to avoid prosecution by the Empire for piracy against Imperial transports. The records again become scarce until his great grandfather, who died in 954. His Great Grandfather was apparently a mercenary who was quite good at his job. Subsequently is Grandfather grew up as the son of a mercenary and kept to his father’s profession. Renald’s father however was different he started out as a mercenary and soon became disillusioned with the killing and the death of his wife and began to drink. Renalds curiosity about his past along with his love of histories and cultures is part of why he became a smuggler.

Childhood

Renald’s mother died when he was under a year old from an unknown illness. When he was about 5 when his father’s drinking caused him to hit rock bottom and the family lost their home on Corellia. They lived on the street until his father died when he was about eight at which point his grandfather took him in and raised him. Renald was quite behind in book learning but his grandfather made sure to teach him. Renald’s curiosity allowed him to process and learn quickly what he was being taught.

Adolescence

When Renald got older his grandfather also taught him how to use blasters and how to fight in close quarter combat. Because his grandfather could not support the both of them when he was old enough Renald had to find a job. Given the fact that he lived on Corellia it was easy to find a job in a shipyard. There Renald learned a lot about ships, their construction, and how to repair them. When Renald turned 16 his grandfather gave him the security code to the lockbox that Renald had always seen at the foot of his grandfather’s bed and told him that when he passes Renald should open up the lockbox and take the contents. A few months later Renald’s grandfather passed away and Renald subsequently opened the lockbox and found inside a datacron, a couple of data chips, a small cortosis weave knife, and a dark red trench coat. The day after the funeral men came to the house and took possession of the small apartment and all of its contents , including his grandfather’s weapons and armor, except for Renalds few possessions including the contents of the lockbox. Renald found out that the reason for the seizers was because of the debt his grandfather had been in. This debt had been accumulated as his grandfather had tried to support Renald and his father.

Renald lost his job and was now back on the streets. Because of his curiosity Renald yearned to see and explore the galaxy. One day while visiting a cantina looking for a job he met a man who offered him a job on a ship. It was a low paying job but it would take him off Corellia. However Renald had no idea what he was getting into until the large freighter took off. Renald found himself on a slaver ship and a full one at that. I was a miserable two weeks as the heavy freighter made a slow trip to Tatooine. Renald spent most of his time cleaning and fixing the ships constant mechanical problems. Plus the stench throughout most of the ship was horrible and condition in which the slaves were kept repulsed Renald. As soon as the ship landed Renald snuck out and left. Although he didn’t get paid he didn’t care he was under contract but he didn’t want to get back on that ship.

Early Adulthood

From the time he arrived on Tatooine until he was about eighteen Renald worked at a ship repair facility/boneyard. There he first set eyes on the ship he would fall in love with. It was located in a obscure area of the boneyard and seemed to be relatively new and in decent shape; but Renald didn’t have near the credits to buy it. The money he made barely paid his living expenses. Renald was working on a light freighter that a man had brought in for hyperdrive repair. Seeing Renald’s skill in ship repair the offered him a job on his ship making repairs. Given the fact that the amount of money offered.

It turned out that this man was a smuggler and Renald’s introduction to smuggling. Over the next 4 years Renald worked his way up from smuggler to copilot and this is how he learned to fly. He picked up on flying fairly quickly and became quite good at it. During this time he also purchased his armor and blaster and much of his other clothing. Despite this though with him always carried a sachel which contained his grandfather possessions. After working for the smuggler for four years Renald had enough credits to strike out on his own.

As a favor Renald was dropped off on Tatooine and he immediately made his way to the boneyard. It had changed ownership but the ship that had constantly been on his mind was still in the back of the boneyard . It took nearly all of the money he had but Renald was able to purchase the ship and the parts he needed to get it to fly. Renald also finally went through his grandfather’s things. The datacron and chips kindled and interest in his family history and he decided he liked the look of the trench coat which he dawned. Renald spent most of his time smuggling for various private individuals and groups. He has smuggled almost anything imaginable including gizka, which he had a rather difficult time with. He has also continued to educate himself on Galactic History and planetary cultures.

The Corellian Resistance

The fall of Coruscant to the Imperium; a great horror for some and a blessing for others. Renald was one of those who was blessed by these times, at least in the beginning. Renald never took a side and was willing to smuggle just about anything. As a result, for three long years Renald made a killing on smuggling weapons, spice, and other goods across the Galaxy. By no means was the work easy but it was very rewarding. During his “travels” Renald met numerous beings. One such being was Jenny Halifax.

When the Sith attacked Corellia Renald was contacted by a mysterious woman known as Whisper. He was offered a job assisting the resistance by running supplies or whatever else they needed through the Imperial blockades. Not only did Renald feel some need to help defend his home world but also recognized the potential for profit. It was a few months into the job when Renald actually met Jenny. He had just successfully gotten past the Imperium blockade with a load of precious kolto, along with other medical supplies. Given the nature of the delivery Renald was required to report directly to the Corellian Resistance leader, former Galactic Alliance Head of State Nathanaeu Bastele. Also present during the meeting was a fellow Corellian, and Resistance fighter, Jenny, who was in charge of distributing the kolto and other medical supplies that had been smuggled in. Jenny took an immediate liking to Renald and offered to assist him in smuggling and transportation of the supplies vital to the resistance movement.

Loved and Lost

It wasn’t long before Jenny and Renald had become quite close and he fully accepted her as his co-pilot, which she agreed to. Eventually Jenny encouraged Renald to stop taking pay for the smuggling and do it for the sake of helping the resistance and those that could not easily help themselves. She also persuaded him to put nearly 1 million of his own credits into support of the resistance movement. Over the next year or so, Renald and Jenny’s, co-pilot, pilot arrangement evolved into a romantic relationship. As the months rolled by their Relationship deepened and they began to consider plans for their future. This included a small fortune of a little more than 1.5 million credits which Renald stashed away somewhere known only to him and Jenny. There was not a whole lot more either Renald or Jenny could ask for. They had excitement, love, companionship, and money. However life can change drastically in the blink of an eye. The year was 1020 ABY and the Corellian Resistance Movement had been struggling for some time. It was near buckling under the might of the Imperium. It had been at least a year since the movement could afford kolto and now the only medical supplies Renald transported were old medpacks and expired stims. It seemed however that fate smiled upon the Resistance, if even for the briefest of moments. A large, anonymous donation to the resistance had come through and bacta was purchased with the donation. Renald had to get the bacta from Hutt space to Corellia. Nothing he hadn’t done before. What made it dangerous was the value of the cargo and the huge increase in pirate activity since the fall of the GA. The cargo could be sold for a fortune on the black market and this fact attracted pirates.

Near the middle of the run Renald pulled The Smuggler’s Folly out of hyperspace only briefly so that he could reset the coordinates for the second jump to Corellia. When, seemingly out of nowhere, a small pirate fleet appeared right in Renald’s line of travel. Renald had no choice but to evade and attempt to recalculate the jump to hyperspace. Despite Renald being an ace pilot there was no way he could out maneuver half a dozen small, agile ships to make the jump. It wasn’t long before Renald’s hyperdrive was severely damaged and his sublight engines render in operable. Renald’s first inclination was to hide. His ship was equipped with fair sized hidden compartments for smuggling goods and Renald without hesitation opened one. As soon as he did a flood of potential toxic gases rushed out. Some pipes that funneled these gases from the engines to an exhaust port had been damaged and there was no way he and Jenny could make use of the compartments for hiding. They now had one choice; make a stand.

Before bolting to the airlock, where Renald knew the pirates freighter would soon be docking, he told Jenny to go to the cockpit and defend it. Despite protest Jenny complied and made her way to the cockpit. On his way to the airlock Renald grabbed his carbine and extra ammo. He soon arrived and knelt down behind some crates, as the airlock was attached to the main cargo hold, and readied himself for the fire fight. Renald never fired a shot though. When the pilot of the pirate’s ship was docking it slammed hard into the side of Smuggler’s Folly causing some cargo containers, which had come loose, to fall and smack Renald in the head; knocking him out.

Renald’s eyes opened slowly his vision slightly blurred and as he tried to stand a sharp pain shot through his skull and down his spine. His memory was fuzzy and he sat hunched over on a fallen container trying to recollect the sequence of events. He was seated for only a split second when it all came back. Renald jumped up and then had to support himself as another bolt of pain erupted in his head. Renald fought through it though, grabbed his carbine and rushed to the cockpit; not knowing if Jenny had been able to hold off the pirates. When he reached the cockpit he came to a sudden halt. Renald’s carbine clattered to the floor as he rushed forward. There was no sign of Jenny. The only thing Renald found on the floor of the cockpit entrance was his dark red trench coat, shredded to pieces. Jenny had been wearing it when they were attacked. He knelt down and picked it up and collapsed onto the floor grasping the pieces of the coat. Renald lost all track of time as he sat there, mind empty. Then with a heavy sigh Renald got up and made his way to the galley. On his way he stopped by his cabin and placed the tatters of the trench coat in the back of a drawer. Once he arrived at the galley he poured himself a large drink, downed it then poured himself another.

Hope for the Future

Renald knew there was a possibility that Jenny was still alive. Actually there was little chance she was dead. Most likely she was captured and would be sold into slavery to some slobbering Hutt. Renald decided he was going to search for her and not rest until he found her. The first thing he had to do was repair his ship. Lucky for Renald that was one of the areas he was most skilled in. After only a short time Smuggler’s Folly was repaired enough to travel to the nearest system. After His ship had been completely repaired Renald began his search.

For nearly two and a half years Renald searched far and wide. Occasionally he would turn up a lead or two but for the most part they led nowhere. The longer the search dragged on with no results the more time Renald spent in Cantinas drinking to drown his sorrows. It wasn’t long before he had all but given up and spent his time drifting from one cantina to another; rarely ever sober. Renald was hunched over drunk in a bar on Nar Shadaa, his appearance absolutely horrid, when a strange being approached him. The two talked, or rather the stranger did, while Renald spent most of the time mumbling incoherently. Renald realized after word he must have told his entire life story as the stranger told him something about redemption. Renald didn't know how long it had been but the stranger eventually left. However the stranger did leave something for Renald, a datacard.

Renald was a member of the Waste Rangers for only a short time before he started to realize the good he did with the rangers was not enough for him. No he would have to do more. He had begun to resign himself to the realization that he would never see Jenny again, but he could at least do something meaningful in her memory. The thought occurred to Renald that there was really only one thing he could do to properly honor Jenny. That was to take back Corellia, the planet, and home. So Renald started the CLF, which he currently the leader of.

It took nearly all of the money he had but Renald was able to purchase the ship and the parts he needed to get it to fly. Renald also finally went through his grandfather’s things. The datacron and chips kindled and interest in his family history and he decided he liked the look of the trench coat which he dawned.

Present Day:

Renald spends most of his time smuggling for various private individuals and groups. He has smuggled almost anything imaginable including gizka, which he had a rather difficult time with. He has also continued to educate himself on Galactic History and planetary cultures.

This was posted nearly a year ago. In the future there are better ways (PM or VM) of contacting a person about their character for IC interaction.

Character looks very nice. Would be nice to have him join Servana Inc.

Thanks for the comment. I will have to decline the offer though as he will be undergoing major changes post skip and as a result will be joining The Waste Rangers.
