Regaining Favor

Evening, At the steps of the (former) Senate Building, Coruscant.


Verneck Aletaus had begun preparations for this speech not too long after he began to see protest of decisions he made on the whim. As usual he was anxious to see the outcome of this speech. Would this increase his chances of remaining in office? Would this obtain the favor of Coruscant citizens to join the Republic? At this point, all he could hope for is that his comrade and himself could work together and obtain their favor of the citizens. He knew coming into this he'd have to push out his personal ideals in order to defend himself. Given that he is quite xenophobic, he despises the fact that he'll have to proclaim "Equal rights to all" in order to have any push towards favor.

The Senator had prepared the steps of the Senate Building to be the location of his speech. He ordered some of his agents to prepare a podium and campaign notes ahead of time. Whenever he was notified that the stage had been set, he called for Antares to head with him to the location of the campaign. Not too long after he would be standing on a dual podium, turning to see the campaign slogans set for him.

With two We are one

This slogan intrigued the Senator, but given he was doing a collaboration for a campaign he'd approve of it. A crowd would begin to appear around the area to listen in and most likely yell at them, but he kept his calm and cheerful facade.

"People of Coruscant. I have come to announce a campaign of change alongside my comrade Caliban Antares... This campaign of change will be for a transition into becoming a member of The Republic..."

[Caliban Antares]

It began today, the final push to get Coruscant accepted as a member of the newly formed Republic. That in itself was but the first step in pushing the planet towards a better and brighter future. Coruscant had long been the seat of Imperial power, but since the Imperial Republica was absorbed into the Old Empire the was in a steady and unmistakable decline. The bombings of the Imperial district all those years ago had just accelerated that process. He was going to do what he could to halt that decline, and it all began here.

"My fellow citizens of Coruscant," he said once the former Senator was done speaking, "the time has come for us to take a stand. Coruscant was once the heart of civilization, the jewel of whichever government it was a part of. Yet now, when the Galaxy is going through changes not seen for centuries and witnessing upheavals rarely seen, Coruscant isn’t even a part of the body that drives this change." He stopped for a moment, glancing momentarily at the former Senator, letting his eyes linger for a few decisive moments. He said nothing, but the implication was clear. He wanted the people to make the connection. The old ways had brought them here. The old ways had failed, it was time to bring in the new.

"But there is still time to make amends, there still exists a path for us to join the Republic. And join the Republic we must. Alone, with no allies, we will be inviting the Mandalorians to come knocking. The scars of their last incursion are yet to heal fully, and we cannot sit by and let it happen a second time." He paused, giving the gathered masses a moment to process what had said, the severity of their situation to sink in. "I have recently returned from Chandrila, where I spoke with a number of Senators and even the Secretary of Defense. They have spoken of a willing ness to support our bid to join the Republic. But, it comes at a cost. Just as the Galaxy is changing, so must we. No longer can we follow the old ways, for too long have we turned a blind eye to what was wrong because it was tradition. So," this time he didn’t even look at the former Senator before continuing, "I am also announcing my intention to run for the position of Senator and represent Coruscant once we join the Republic. We need to look to the future, to a Coruscant free of prejudice, free of corruption, free of discrimination. The Republic stands for a fair and just government for all, where one and all are treated equally. Regardless of species, gender, wealth, or station. A belief they had my compete and full backing, I can only ask that you stand by me in this regard."
