personality

Ree Azalus is very much a creature of the night. His agile mind is always active and due to his Amaran heritage he is no stranger to slyness and manipulation. Consequently, he spends a lot of time in his head, giving the impression that he's trying to outsmart the world around him. He is often surprised to learn that his intellectual pursuits are disturbing and intimidating.

His love for exploration is mixed with enjoyment in overcoming challenges, so he's often out climbing mountains or journeying to exotic, forbidden places.

Flamboyance is not Ree's style, preferring to remain inconspicuous and choosing subtlety and cunning over brute strength. He lives the life of a vagabond and prefers setting up camp in the wilderness in small, solitary environments. As a hunter personality, he stays in good physical shape and enjoys challenging both mind and body.

Ree has been a successful soldier in the Galactic Rebellion, but his competitiveness and ambition sometimes make his comrades feel belittled. His single-mindedness often blinds him to the feelings of others, so he prefers working on his own or with a small group of trusted allies that have more than proven themselves. Competent in a wide range of skills as a soldier, he has earned the reputation of a top notch operator that performs a variety of special operations for the Rebellion.

biography

Some time after his birth, it is unknown exactly when, Ree's parents sold him to what remains to be an untraceable buyer. He was bought and sold a handful of times before he ended up in the custody of a Hutt by the name of Jorr'gota. Jorr'gota was a small time boss that managed a band of mercenaries. He didn't have much use for Ree, deeming him weak and unfit for business because of his small Amaran stature. Regardless, youngling Ree appealed to the Hutt that considered him exotic and remarkable in both nature and appearance. Suffice it to say, Jorr'gota's world was the world Ree would grow up in. It wasn't the best of worlds by a long shot, but it was something . . . something that would change Ree forever, for better or worse.

When Jorr'gota decided he would keep Ree, he gave him his name. Ree Azalus, it was Huttese, and to Jorr'gota it had two meanings . . . real dangerous -or- real hazardous. Jorr'gota was a paranoid Hutt to say the least, he believed in karma and he didn't know what he was getting himself into when he decided to hold on to Ree. That being the case, he thought Ree would end up being really hazardous or really dangerous. Depending on how you look at it, he was right.

By the time Ree had reached his adolescent years, he'd already developed his cunning and intellect. He'd absorbed the vast majority of what he'd been exposed to, learning from the variety of cultures that were accustomed to accompany a Hutt's lifestyle. Languages, backgrounds, technology, and . . . fighting, of course. The quiet teenage solitarian was a quick study of all that came to him. He'd already made it a habit of sneaking out when Jorr'gota and his lackeys weren't looking and developed his keen since for adventure and the unknown at an early age.

No sooner than Ree had reached adulthood, he was pushing himself to be the best of the best under Jorr'gota's employ. He couldn't settle for second tier, he had to prove to Jorr'gota that he wasn't weak or unfit to be a warrior like the rest of his hired guns. Needless to say, the spirited Amaran didn't settle. Not only did he prove to Jorr'gota that he was a capable foot soldier, he exceeded the Hutt's expectations ten fold. His time in the limelight as one of Jorr'gota's top guns would be short lived, however. What happened next was entirely unexpected and not a soul in the galaxy could have seen it coming...

It was roughly half a decade, or so, later when a representative of the Rebel Alliance came to Jorr'gota seeking the aid of his mercenaries in their fight against the Sith. The terms weren't agreeable to Jorr'gota, for reasons unbeknownst to Ree, so the representative's request was swiftly rejected. Sympathetic to the representative's cause and ever curious to venture out of Jorr'gota's world that he'd been living in . . . Ree disappeared as he often did from Jorr'gota's abode and sought out the Rebellion.

It has only been a year now, since Ree left Hutt space and joined the Galactic Rebellion. Transitioning comfortably into his new position as a soldier, he fights to liberate the galaxy from the oppression of the Sith Imperium. Set on becoming one of the most capable operators in the universe, Ree continues to deploy across the galaxy performing special missions aiding him on his quest to be among the most elite specialized forces operators to ever fight for the Rebellion.

equipment

Opting to tough it out as a career soldier, Ree endured the hardships of doing a lot with a little. Literally, he was little, so he neither had the build nor the strength for carrying massive amounts of gear and equipment. It didn't stop him from trying, however. Ree put forth his best effort to carry everything that his comrades carried, albeit in smaller fashion. Because he was smaller . . . even carbine blasters designed to be light weight and compact appeared to be full sized blaster rifles when shouldered by an Amaran. Be that as it may, Ree Azalus was determined to adapt and overcome . . . and so he did.

By way of weapon systems, he had what would be considered a standard load out for any operator worth their salt (at least in his opinion). He maintained both a primary and secondary weapon system, as well as a vibroknife. His primary weapon system was of a somewhat ancient design when held up to more modern technology, it was an Interstellar Regulator Blaster Carbine Xesh. Models preceding it dated back to the days of the Old Republic. For his secondary, he holstered an old Czerka PG-13 Blaster Pistol that had seen better days. Lastly, the vibroknife was nothing special, a small combat knife to the average soldier. To Ree, however, it bore resemblance to a larger combat vibroknife that might be worn on the chest plates of troopers from days that had long passed.

His armor in and of itself was homemade. It consisted of salvaged plating from an Imperial combat droid along with various fastening straps, belts, and buckles holding it all together. The only thing actually made for him were his combat boots, due to his digitigrade legs he had to have them custom crafted by a synthweaver. Aside from that, there was nothing remarkable about his attire, it was mostly hand-me-down combat attire that the Rebellion had given him when he joined the cause.

On his back, Ree almost always had his rucksack--less it be unfeasible for him to carry it during a mission. Either within his pack or distributed elsewhere among the numerous pockets and pouches of his attire, Ree kept a credit chip that never held more than a thousand credits; a blank data card; several spare energy cells for his weapon systems; a personal holoprojector for contacting the Rebellion while out in the field; macrobinoculars; a stun grenade; frag grenade; a thermal detonator; and a medpac.

All in all, weapons, armor and gear weighed 20.1 kilos, less than half of what an Imperial Commando humped around in terms of weight. Then again, he was half of what your average Imperial Commando was in size. Be that as it may, Ree was determined to keep up with the competition and prove to himself and the rest of the galaxy that he could stand toe to toe with even the elite Storm Commandos of the Imperial Army.

strengths & weaknesses

ATHLETICISM || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Ree lives a dramatic life, filled with constant physical confrontation. Whether it's a bad guy with a blaster, a mountain to be scaled, or a chasm to leap across, so long as it's not an ocean or river to be swum; Ree is up for the challenge. Due to his Amaran heritage, he is no friend to the water. Any effort put forth to swim is a rigorous challenge indeed. Ree makes up for his inability to swim with his inclination towards climbing and rappelling, both his horizontal and vertical jump, and his ability to not just run--but sprint for extended periods of time. Ree has an overall above average measure of fitness and physical conditioning as is customary for those who actively engage in a regimen of physical training, such as field infantry and scouts.

FOR THE THRILLS || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

There are few actions more dangerous than taking on the forces of the Imperium, yet Ree willing uses his incredible speed, intelligence, and courage to forever forge his legacy into galactic history. Ree seeks dangers and thrills wherever he can find them, and he has joined the Rebellion in order to have a shot at taking on the most dangerous and well-trained fighting force in the galaxy . . . the Sith Imperium.

PRINCE CHARMING || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Nope. Possessing neither a smile nor a silver tongue, it would be impossible for Ree to travel the galaxy relying on the kindness of others. Never has he ever been known to toss out a compliment or discern the feelings of another individual. He would make for a terrible politician or a salesman, despite his Amaran blood. Best he stays clear of jobs that may require persuasion or seduction.

KEEP CALM AND CHIVE ON || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Life as a Rebel is filled with an endless variety of dangers. The ability to stay cool, calm, and collected and think clearly while one's life hangs in the balance is a skill that Ree is becoming more and more familiar with. By remaining emotionally centered, he is capable of effectively prioritizing issues and solving critical problems first. Ree is getting better and better at focusing on achieving his goals, without allowing outside influences to bother him. So long as his pride and ego don't get in the way, he is usually the calm before, during, and after the storm.

FOLLOW THE LEADER || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

If Ree had to determine the degree of his success based on his ability to lead others, he would've consider himself a failure years ago. He's not privy to motivational speeches or speaking out at all really, so he won't be the politician or military officer that's swaying his listeners to take action. Though he is more than capable of making smart decisions and being firm and decisive, he lacks the charisma required to instill a sense of loyalty and respect for those around him. Which ultimately leaves Ree with the mindset--if you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself.

SELF AID BUDDY AID || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Routine first aid is where Ree feels most comfortable, standard use of medpacs and perhaps a stim or an adrenal if absolutely necessary. When it comes to actual medicine and the use of drugs, he'd rather leave that to the pharmaceutical gurus. Ree might be able to help treat for poison, but he's definitely not the one to go to for infectious diseases, surgery, cybernetic augmentations, or psychotherapy. Best leave those things to a well-versed medical technician or doctor.

LIKE A ROCK || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Unfortunately, the galaxy won't stop moving just because Ree has to take a break. This is something he is completely aware of. To achieve his objectives, he knows he must have the perseverance to overcome the most challenging obstacles. These obstacles could come as sleep deprivation, hideous climates, or malnutrition. He must be resilient and prepared to face all threats of this sort. Ree has trained himself for many years to push his body beyond reasonable limits. Being of the sort that willingly puts himself in situations that most would consider to be bad ideas, Ree has learned to fortify his mind and body like an unbreakable boulder that has existed for millennia.

SKULDUGGERY || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Identifying the most vulnerable aspects of a security scheme or offensive strike seems nearly intuitive for Ree. Therefore, he's no stranger to picking locks, breaking into and out of secure facilities, covert operations, disguise, setting traps or other seedy--underhanded--actions. He's no master of the art that is skulduggery, but he's taken it upon himself to learn and learn fast.

FISTICUFFS || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Unless he's moving in quietly seeking to end his foe with his vibroknife, Ree isn't the one hoping a melee erupts. A lot of soldiers are thoroughly trained in unarmed combat and Ree is no exception to this norm. However, his small vulpine figure didn't provide him with the brawn necessary to subdue an opponent in a physical altercation. Most beings in the galaxy were larger than he was, putting him at a disadvantage. Don't be surprised if he bites and claws his way out of a brawl. So rather than standing toe-to-toe and putting his dukes up, he opts for reliance on his speed and agility to win a fight.

ART OF WAR || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

The galaxy has been shaped for millennia by warfare. Now, the Rebellion is in its desperate struggle against the Sith Imperium, individuals with the capacity to understand the workings of war are more important than ever before. Ree is one such individual. War and conflict had been of interest to him since he was a pup, spurring his pursuit for knowledge regarding conflict, both on the ground and in space. Many things factor into his warfare intellect, ranging from training and insight on the strategies and tactics of modern warfare, to an awareness of the personnel and technology of the factions involved in the conflict, to knowledge gained from studying the other great wars throughout galactic history. Having this broad awareness of the workings and history of conflict allows Ree to not only survive, but to thrive as a member of the Galactic Rebellion.

NERD ALERT || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

The galaxy simply wouldn't function without the constant assistance of computers and technology. Devices all over the universe are linked together and coordinated by computers and droids. Those talented in computing can sometimes exploit these resources, but the only thing Ree exploits is the information stored by this artificial intelligence. He certainly has the intellect to dig deeper into technology and have a better understanding of it, but he doesn't have the desire to. Ree isn't one of those beings that becomes so unconsciously dependent upon computers. Outside of conducting research, using the Holo-Net, or basic communications . . . Ree just isn't your go-to guy when it comes to computer savvy.

MECHANICS FOR DUMMIES || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Ree is by no means Mister Fix-it. Failed life support system needs to be repaired? Nope. Hyperspace engine got you stranded in the middle of nowhere? Sorry, can't help. Planetary or atmospheric craft giving you trouble? Don't look at Ree. Need your droid serviced? Nada. What's that? Having trouble with your blaster? He may not be a capable mechanic, but he has gone through some armstech and armormech training. After all, he did rig his armor from a busted battle droid. He may not be a technical expert, but in war . . . things break and you need to know how to fix them. Ree may not be an expert on all things that need to be fixed, but when it comes to his own gear and equipment he has made himself extremely familiar with the maintenance and repair procedures.

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Ree's Amaran heritage and his race's vulpine characteristics have him well equipped for survival. Ree can survive in forests, grasslands, mountains, the arctic, the country side, and even in urban areas. A solitary hunter, he can literally fend for himself with little to no reliance on anything outside of nature itself. The only thing pushing Ree out from the pinnacle of being an extreme survivalist is the fact that swimming is not at the top of his 'Things To Do' list. He has no problem swimming a reasonable distance if it's necessary, but he's no Nautolan.

FORCE VULPINE SENSES || ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Characterized by his sharp muzzle and fluffy tail, it's no secret, somewhere down his family tree . . . he's relative to the vulpine species. Unlike his sentinent canine humanoid counterparts, Ree being an Amaran is equipped with retractable claws that make him an excellent climber. He also possesses vertical pupils, a typical feature of nocturnal creatures, meaning he can see well in dim light. Besides his good night eyesight, Ree has an excellent sense of smell and hearing, a trait he uses to remain ever aware of his surroundings. Furthermore, Ree can run very fast (up to fifty-five kilometers per hour flat out) compared to humans. Speed and agility come natural to him, thanks to his relatively small size. Unfortunately, neither the Amaran race nor Ree are known for their great strength, instead relying upon quickness, cunning, and dexterity.
