RECLAIMING OUR LEGACY: PART I - INVASION TRAINING

Nal Hutta, the so called 'Glorious Jewel' of the Hutt species was a vile place at the best of times, but today it had been made to look even worse, for beneath its surface, dotted across the planet could be found systems of caves, one of which was the location for the training exercise hosted by the Vesajilic Family. Outfitted with numerous buildings, the ground dried, the cave looked like the spice mines of Kessel, for the outlay had been based of some old plans for the mines that the Hutts had from their days of controlling the mines. New tunnels had been dug into the caves so that the natural outlay of the mines would be well represented here, and more important a gravity generator had been put in the locality to give the effect of reduced gravity.

The trainees for today's mission would be required to wear oxygen masks, and lead similarly garbed Slave Warriors up against combat droids, firing a mixture of live and stun rounds. From his sail barge near the northward face of the cave, Nor'baal Vesajilic chuckled, for this simulation could be most effective indeed. He looked down at the assmbled trainees and spoke through a loudhailer.

<Loyal Subjects of the Cartel, your mission today is simple. Storm the compound, using the two mine shafts which lead to the main compound. The faaster you are, the higher your reward. Leave no droid standing!>

This is not a good idea Peter, the consequences for your actions will be extreme, think of your sister Peter, what are you doing here? You're not a soldier you're just a thug, You should just leave now Peter, Grab your sister and leave this place.

You enjoy hurting other people, don't you Peter?

Peter's eyes bolted open as he jolted out of sleep. It had been 2 weeks since he last got a taste of the wonderful spice known as Ryll and it's been killing him, both mentally and physically. He had hoped to be off the drug by now but quitting an addiction is never as easy as the medical advertisements say it is. He looked to his right and saw his younger sister, Paige, cleaning her weapons and oiling her signature chainsaw. He recognized this place he was in a cavern system under Nar Shadda, how he got here was a mystery to him. He looked down at the table as far saw that he was sitting down at a metal table and sprawled out in frount of him were his weapons, well cleaned and nicely shined. He stowed away his weapons, as did his sister. His Vortex tactical shotgun, hornbill blaster pistol, home made breaching charges, and finally his helmet. He held it with two hands and stared at it, it's swan shaped visage looking back at him alms it like it was staring into his very soul, judging him for his past sins. He flipped it around and locked it into place, the mandatory oxygen mask hugging his mouth as the airtight bond was made. He looked over at Paige and watched her strap on her own gear. Starting with her MP-350 pulse SMG, various thermal detonators and fragmentation grenades, and her chainsaw. Peter never understood why his sister opted to cart around a chainsaw, especially to a war zone but as he's found out, she's extreamly deadly and versatile with her weapon of choice. Paige strapped on her helmet as well and stood up from her seat. "You ready sis?" "You kidding me?! I was born ready!" Peter could swear that behind that mask of hers she was grinning ear to ear.

The two got up and made their way to the staging area, occupied by a few squads of slave conscripts, other bounty hunters and cartel soldiers, and hovering near the cave's northward face was a Hutt on a sail barge. The two wet workers recognized the Hutt as Nor'baal, the Hutt that seized power after the infamous bombing plot that took place not too long ago. There was a loud screeching sound followed by the Hutt speaking through some type of megaphone.

<Loyal Subjects of the Cartel, your mission today is simple. Storm the compound, using the two mine shafts which lead to the main compound. The faster you are, the higher your reward. Leave no droid standing!>

Then the voices came back. Peter tried his best to block them out, his heart pounding and the adrenaline pumping through his body numbing all sense of pain and fatigue. Try as he might one of the voices wriggled its way back into his mind.

You enjoy hurting other people, don't you Peter?

Making sure to where his helmet, among other things, the Zabrak knew where he was supposed to be, and what he was supposed to do. He had brought with him his TaskMaster, among other pistols, vibroblades, etc. Silva knew that this was going to be a simulation for the mission he was about to undertake. He was surprised that they were going to be payed credits by the Hutt known as Nor'ball, even if this was a simulation. Nevertheless, he wasn't stupid enough not to accept credits.

Being well aware of the location, Silva went toward the staging point which was a cave. The Prospect was well aware of what the simulation was going to be, and he was quite happy that the simulation would simulate the attack that was soon going to occur on Kessel. Silva was well aware of the fact that Kessel was a hub for trading spice, and he was more than happy to help the Cartel seize Kessel, and reclaim what was once part of the Cartel.

<Loyal Subjects of the Cartel, your mission today is simple. Storm the compound, using the two mine shafts which lead to the main compound. The faster you are, the higher your reward. Leave no droid standing!>

Silva heard the voice of the Cartel Enforcer known as Nor'baal. The Zabrak was well aware of the Hutt's history in the Cartel, especially after he had returned from exile. This should be interesting he thought, as he heard the slave warriors roar at the possibility of fighting. Fortunately for Silva, he had experience leading forces, so leading them wouldn't be hard for the Zabrak.

Candar's armament was exceedingly barebones, which Candar was slightly worried about when he realized he wouldn't be able to use his teeth in combat due to the oxygen mask on his face. All he was carrying, besides very simple body armor, was a stun baton, which was shockingly effective as a blunt weapon, his Azalus stun/lethal blaster, and his tremendous strength.

He had come to the polluted mess of a planet for a combat simulation, a training exercise for the upcoming plot to attack Kessel. He had arrived in the staging ground to see large amounts of slaves, as well of a few of what Candar assumed were Cartel soldiers. Eyeing the rest of compound, he looked up in time to hear Nor'baal's voice rang out.

<Loyal Subjects of the Cartel, your mission today is simple. Storm the compound, using the two mine shafts which lead to the main compound. The faster you are, the higher your reward. Leave no droid standing!>

Instantly any misgivings about his armament vanished, the faster he was, the better his reward. HE wouldn't be leading any slaves, he was sure of that, he was going to use them as meatshields while he, along with whoever else interested in the reward, stormed the tunnels, slaughtering anything that moved as quickly as possible.

Watching as the assembled trainees started toward their objectives, one stun baton wielding personage named Candar heading off with greater speed that the rest, Nor'baal activated the sites defense droids. The tunnel the teams had started down echoed with the sound of the marching droids, almost fifty of them to be seen at the end of the tunnel taking up firing positions behind numerous outcropping rocks as well as barrels and the usual flotsam to be found in mines.

Programmed to sound like storm-troopers, they omitted a series of commands - random phrases they had been programmed to say that made little sense. The front rank opened fire, a few of the Cartel Slaves falling quickly to a blend of real live fire and stun fire, before Nor'baal instructed the rest of the droids present to open fire, the Cartel mercenaries commanding them - dressed as Imperial Officers - taking cover behind their Droid minions.

The canyon exploded with a flurry of excited yells and shouts of bloodlust and carnage from the slaves as Nor'baal made his announcement. Paige chuckled at the contempt of the cartel captives. They knew they were under Nor'baal's gargantuan thumb but chose to fight and serve with dignity and honor anyways, if only all slaves would accept their master's word as law things would be a lot simpler. The canyon exploded a second time, this time followed by a barrage of red and blue blaster bolts as well as the sound of thousands of metallic boots clicking against the cave's stone floor.

Paige raised her SMG high in the air and turned to her battalion of slave soldiers. "No quarter, No surrender, Kill them all!" Paige said as she let loose a burst of gunfire into the ceiling as poorly aimed shots whizzed over her head. The slave's rallied and cried out calls of war as Paige's call to arms inspired them to fight till they died. Paige turned and ran towords the droids, Peter and the rest of her army in tow as they all slid behind cover, popping off a few shots at the attacking droids. Each side took almost equal casualties as the two armies dukes it out for a few minutes before Paige decided to end the stalemate. She reached into her munitions bag and pulled out a couple EMP grenades. "On my mark rush the enemy!" She ordered as she armed the detonators. "3.. 2.. 1.. Now!" She yelled ass she tosses the grenades at the same time the slaves vaulted over their barricades. The grenades more or less landed at the droid's feet as a bright blue flash of arcing electricity disabled a good chunk of the enemy. Their position was swiftly over run as the bloodthirsty slaves tore into the droids, some of the more burly ones ripping the limbs out of the droid's sockets before grinding them into the stone floor. The twins made their way up to the taken barricade as the army hid behind cover popping off half hearted shots at the enemy, gathering their strength for another push.

He had ran ahead of the group, leaving a woman to deliver some orders and perhaps words of encouragement to the slaves, many of whom were about to die, not that they mattered. Several slaves however had charged along with him, and now covered Candar as he sprinted for cover. Two droids were in his way, blocking a slab of concrete. Candar simply lowered his shoulder and charged them. He could feel searing pins and needles as stun and live rounds found their marks, but adrenaline meant his speed never wavered. Slamming into one droid, taking off its head in the process, Candar grabbed the others arm and tore it clean off, and proceed to smash it once over the droids head, taking it out as well.

Now, Candar and his small cadre of shock troops steadily beat their way through the droids, moving from cover to cover. Hearing a stormtrooper Candar immediately looked around on instinct, but realized the droids were making the sounds. Nice touch, he thought, grinning. Now he was forced to take a defensive posture as the droids numbers wore down his ability to advance. Luckily, several seconds later, several bright blue flashes of blinding electricity arced across the droids ranks, decimating a good portion of them.

Once again, the entirety of the slave force charged, with Candar fully intending to continue leading the pack. In between his bouts of limb tearing and head smashing, Candar could see 'Imperial' officers behind cover. Now there was a definite target, so he shouted behind him, and then gave his best Damarian roar, "TARGET THE OFFICERS!" Once again popping out of cover, Candar popped a few shots of his Azalus at the human, and could see the normal bolt impact his chest, with the pain bolt following close by. Once again, his advance was bogged down, and the tug of war began.

Peter always had a knack for knowing when a job was going to go sour and on more than one occasion it saved both him and his sister from either a lifetime stay in prison or a shallow grave. And at this moment, this training exercise was starting to send chills down his side. Or maybe it was just the withdrawal symptoms from the spice he'd been taken he wasn't quite sure.

In any event the rag tag team of slaves were getting orders from two different tactitians, both with their own view on how this battle was to be won, and we're now trying their luck to hit the well dug in "imperial officers" and were negating to thin out the droid hoard that was currently picking off slaves that had chosen poor cover of had gotten up to try and pin down an officer. Peter was not going to let this happen. "Cover me sis." He said as he vaulted over the medium sized boulder that had protected him from the onslaught of stunning laser bolts and made his way up to Candar's location as soon as he heard a break in enemy fire.

He managed to slide into cover next to Candar as he pumped another shell into his shotgun before raising up to put a slug into the chest cavity of an approaching droid. "Candar!" He yelled as he pulled his head down just in time for a whizzing blue bolt to jet harmlessly into the cavern wall. "We've got to work together to win this man, we can't both be giving orders." Peter yelled at him as he drew his hornbill blaster and pegged a few more advancing droids in the chest with it. "If we don't we're both going to be out of an army soon. If we can take out this wave of droids we should have enough breathing room to move up and stage an assult on the compound." He said as he pointed up at the metallic, blocky building that housed their main objective. "Order your men to hold the line!" He added as he popped back out of cover to kill some droids before getting nailed in the shoulder with a blaster bolt.

Peter dropped down to the floor in pain before moving back behind cover and holstered his weapon. He quickly inspected his wound and was relived to see that it was only a stun round and that his armor took the brunt of the attack. His left arm number he slung his shotgun around his back and pulled out his pistol again, unleashing a flurry of bolts as he motioned for his sister to give the order to advance to his position.

Admittedly, a large portion of the slaves were being wiped out, however, several officers had fallen, and the droids were taking casualties as well. Candar cared not how many slaves died in the engagement, they had no other reason to live than to die. As Candar stood to deliver a shot to an officer, a droid he hadn't noticed nearly took of his head with a bolt before a hole miraculously appeared in it's chest.

Turning slightly behind him to see one of the trainees sliding into cover near him, Candar took cover again, seeing that he had something to say. "We've got to work together to win this man, we can't both be giving orders. If we don't we're both going to be out of an army soon. If we can take out this wave of droids we should have enough breathing room to move up and stage an assault on the compound. Order your men to hold the line!" All the while taking and dishing out the pain.

Slow and steady doesn't get you credits. Candar needed only a fraction of a second to decide his answer before the man next to him ate a blaster in the shoulder. Reaching to help, Candar stopped when he realized the armor wasn't even penetrated. No time better than now to give his reply.

"You overestimate the worth of these slaves, we have plenty, when driven to attack with ferocity and adrenaline every slave that dies will take two droids with it. We charge the droid line, slaughter the officers and droids before they retreat, and using that same momentum, storm the compound. The slaves don't matter, stop thinking of them in terms of casualties.... And start thinking of them in terms of expendable tools."

Those were the orders he was given to his slaves, no matter what the rest did, and it was easy to tell this based on his facial expression as he awaited reply.

There was no doubt that the tunnel was now clear, as the Hutt looked down from his speeder above watching as the hired prospects tore threw the encroaching droids which represented the Sith Forces. Up ahead, the alarm would have been raised, further troops coming down to support those in the tunnels, however the attack had been fast enough - and with the infiltration team doing their job - this was not the case. A lone mercenary saw the attack, and went to hail reinforcements - but it was to late as the team had shut down the communications.

Looking back at the team, the confirmation that the infiltration squad had lowered the communications, Nor'baal activated stage two of the attack, turning on the auto-mated defenses in the fake Sith Base, as well as the droids within. There was one door into the building, with a turret on either side, several droids standing in front of the door, representing a Sith Security detail.

Nor'baal new the team needed to be careful, if they attacked like they had in the tunnels, the rest of the base would hear and overwhelm them.

Paige moved the slaves up once Peter reached Candar, the sudden burst of fire from the slaves overwhelming the straggling members of the fake Sith force. As the arcing of laser died down and eventually stopped altogether as the skirmish was won, Paige walked up to the two bickering mercenaries.

"You think I care if slaves die? I don't care about their wellbeing or if they died tomorrow but right now we need soldiers and you can't win a battle without soldiers. Peter retorted as his sister joined the group. "Both of you stow it!" Paige interjected as she ejected the magazine from her SMG before replacing it with a fresh one. "Right now we need to think of a plan to take over the compound without alerting the bulk of the droids." She said as she pointed at the newly activated turrets and the droids patrolling the compound. "Suggestions anyone?"

Quite suddenly, the firing died. The floor of the tunnel was carpeted in scrap and sparking bits of droid, as well as soaked in the blood of the slaves, viscera dripping off of the cover, a brutal tribute the cost of the tactics Candar had used. Then, the other merc Candar was arguing with stepped closer to continue their 'discussion'. "You think I care if slaves die? I don't care about their wellbeing or if they died tomorrow but right now we need soldiers and you can't win a battle without soldiers."

Candar simply shook his head. "You misunderstand me, we both know their deaths don't matter sentimentally, only logistically, therefore if we sacrificed the slaves to kill the droids as fast as possible, we would be left, along with the strongest slaves, while the droids would be dead. No reason to argue, it's over." Candar finished, and then raised his hands in front of him to represent deference to the woman as she began talking.

"I'll let you two do the thinking, subtlety isn't my strong suit."

(I think you meant me)

"I'll let you two do the thinking, subtly isn't my strong suit. You've got that right" Peter muttered under his breath as him and his sister looked at the enter wince to the compound.

The enterance to the compound was sealed off by a blast door, protected by 2 sentry guns and, and patrolled by a team of droids. The two looked up at the turrets and noticed that they swiveled in a 180° arc in separate directions. Peter explained this to Candar and added that if a few slaves or themselves swiftly moved in while the the turrets were blind, they could be shut down and the security team could be more easily dispatched.

Work is starting to ride my ass as my boss made it rain pink slips. I'm one of the few who didn't get fired so that means I have to work longer so he doesn't fire me. Sorry for any delays in posting

"How about this?" he stated, looking at the two men. He didn't know why he hadn't gotten people that would actually cooperate instead of arguing over one another. That was not how to win the mission, and Silva, being experienced in leading a large amount of forces, knew that cooperation was important. In addition to that, while he did see the slaves as expendable tools, he also knew that they represented a large amount of their forces, the majority in fact, so they shouldn't use the slaves idiotically.

"I'll take the center, one of you take the left, and one of you take the right? It will be much more better to distribute our forces more equally in order to finish off the droids." he stated. Silva then prepared himself an the slaves he was leading and charged toward the center, attacking the droids using his pistols, among various other weapons. Silva wasn't idiotic enough to only carry one weapon. He was someone that liked having a lot of tricks up his sleeve, and this was one of those moments when he did.

It would be fair for the Hutt to say that - thus far - the mission was a success, with the Cartel 'Forces' making swift progress through the mock defenses. Permitting himself to smile for a while, the hutt once again returned his focus to the issue at hand. The discussions over, Nor'baal made a mental note to make sure that the plan was agreed before hand in future, the Cartel Forces attacked, quickly disabling the front defenses, with no casualties, and soon finding themselves indoors.

Inside, the team would seen three corridors, the right leading to the barracks, the left to the control room, and the central one to the spice mines import export center. Taking the control room would be the most obvious choice, however taking the barracks would prevent Sith troops from aiding the Control room should the attack be discovered to soon.

Nor'baal new which choice he would take, ever the gambler, he would go for the control room, but - not being a military man himself - he wondered if the hired guns would think otherwise.

It was almost too easy to breach the compounds perimeter and after a brief firefight with a sentry gun and a straggling security team the cartel army was inside the main gates. Paige immediately saw the three corridors marked Barraks, Control room, Import/Export. They had a big decision to make and Paige prayed that it wouldn't comeback to bite her and her comrades in the ass.

"Alright, Candar you take your forces to the Barraks and either kill the imperial contingency or find a way to seal off that deck. We'll take the control room and try and either capture the commander or at the very least get access to the cameras in order to weed out stragglers."
