Raun is a young Sith who stood at five-feet-ten-inches and weighed approximately one-hundred-and-forty pounds. Despite having trained for years as a Jedi before his defection, his muscles are relatively lean, lacking the signs of extensive physical strength training. Though not what one would call comely, his face is shaped like hard granite recently torn asunder by a mason’s tool, where its sharp, rugged edges show a somewhat different type of beauty. His hair is a dark-brown color with a significant streak of white hair running across it, a feature he was born with. Raun’s eyes, formerly an odd color of gray, now glows bright orange due to the dark side’s influences. His skin has also turned pallid due to the dark side’s corruption. During battle, Raun prefers to wear light fabrics in order to free his movements and reduce the chances of being encumbered during battle. Normally, he is seen wearing dark Jedi robes that hide most of his pale skin.
Like many Sith, Raun has an unquenchable thirst for power. In his case, however, power doesn’t always mean the subjugation of others. Power to Raun is knowledge. Even as a youngling, he was always enchanted by whatever new information he gained from his time at the Jedi Archives on Coruscant. When he became older, this manifested as a thirst to learn new things, to unlock the very essence of the Force through study and training. This is what eventually led Raun to the dark side. He is not the type of person who would consider what means needed be done; the end was all he cared about, and he would stop at nothing to gain it. Though not prone to converse or spend time with others, Raun has proven himself to be very sarcastic, sometimes to the point of making people question his intelligence. What people think of him is of little consequence to him, however. Being an academic, Raun sees every situation as a problem to be solved with logic, and views the universe very objectively. One other aspect of his personality worthy of note is his hubris, which leads him to react to things in a very arrogant manner, sometimes to the point of underestimating the capacities of others. He is also easily rendered ineffective by his lack of patience.
Raun was born on 997 A.B.Y. on Axxila, a planet within the outer rim covered by a single, planet-spanning city much like Coruscant. At a very early age, Raun’s Force sensitivity was discovered by a Jedi Knight stationed close to where Raun lived. By the age of two, Raun was already training as a youngling amongst many others at Coruscant’s Jedi Temple. There, Raun has displayed great aptitude in both lightsaber combat and Force manipulation, impressing many instructors with his ability to absorb information quickly, and apply what he has learned in practical scenarios at astonishing speeds. Though his genius was apparent at a very young age, Raun never really took interest in the martial aspects of being a Jedi Knight. Instead, he spent most of his free time in the temple’s archives. Raun developed a somewhat academic way of life, where he would spend more time in the archives than in the training room. One day, his habits caught the attention of one of the archive’s many Jedi archivists. Impressed by Raun’s vast intellect at such an early age, a female Cerean Jedi named Aina-Mos-Vadael, offered to take Raun in as a Padawan after taking the Initiate Trials, to which he agreed. At the age of eight, Raun passed his Initiate Trials and became the archivist’s apprentice. To commemorate the event, Raun’s new master gave him a Kasha crystal for his lightsaber. The Kasha crystal was commonly used by Cereans as a meditation tool, as the crystal helped clear the user’s mind of distractions. Most of Raun’s Padawan years were spent next to his master’s side, either helping her with the archive records or during times of mediation, which Raun had difficulty doing without using the Kasha crystal. Other times, however, Raun accompanies his master whenever she goes into the field to gather data for the archives. It was during these travels when Raun was exposed to galactic affairs for the first time. He learned more about the Galactic Alliance’s and Imperium’s state of cold war, and the Sith menace looming over the horizon. Due to the cold war itself, Raun and his master’s travels were few and far in between, but he couldn’t care less, as he was more than satisfied to stay in the temple. With the way he saw the archives as his sanctuary, it was no big surprise that Raun was devastated when the temple was destroyed during the sack of Coruscant. Raun was only sixteen at the time. When Raun and his master evacuated Coruscant during the Imperium’s attack, great anger swelled within him as he saw the temple, and its archives, reduced to ashes. The fact that the Jedi Order chose not to intervene with the fighting exacerbated his contempt. He began to doubt the Order’s strength as it started to become fragmented, its members, including he and his master, were scattered into the winds. Raun’s anger was somewhat forgotten when he discovered that his master managed to save a few hologlobes and information storage crystals before the evacuation. Nevertheless, he would keep his disdain hidden in the dark fissures of his memories until a time when such emotions would surface once more. After the fall of Coruscant and the defeat of the Galactic Alliance, Raun and his master travelled across the galaxy, never staying in one star system for long, in an attempt to hide from the Imperium and its Jedi hunters. Whilst travelling with his master, Raun picked up a trick or two on piloting certain ships and land speeders. He even learned how to make rudimentary repairs, though he loathed doing work with machines. During their exile, Raun’s master made sure that his skill with the lightsaber and with the Force never atrophied. Whenever they can, the pair did daily exercises, which kept Raun’s skills at top form through the years. Raun’s master also taught him numerous new ways to manipulate the Force, which kept him from being bored, as what usually happens when his mind remains stagnant. Eventually, however, Raun’s master had little left to teach her Padawan. At the age of nineteen, after a haphazardly-made trial and a small ceremony, Raun’s Padawan braid was cut, and his training as a Jedi apprentice was deemed complete. Sometime after being knighted, Raun’s master managed to make contact with other Jedi exiles. These Jedi also worked as archivists at the old Jedi temple on Coruscant. They expressed the desire to gather up what precious data they’ve saved from the old temple and restore the archives little by little. Raun was ecstatic with the news, and willingly followed his master to the rendezvous point on Vestar, a remote world situated on the outer rim territories. Here, numerous archivists shared what little news and information they had. It was during that time when Raun discovered that the Sith Imperium continued their push to the old Alliance worlds almost unabated after sacking Coruscant. Contempt for the old Order resurfaced when Raun discovered that yet again, the Jedi refused to do anything about the war. After the pleasantries were dispensed, the group of Jedi began to compile what few Jedi holocrons, hologlobes and information crystals they had on their person. Almost immediately, the group was taken aback by what one of the archivists, a male Selkath named Yurr, brought with him. Raun recognized the pyramidal object as a Sith holocron. From what Yurr has told the other Jedi, Raun discovered that the Selkath found the holocron, a simple Sith training manual, off the corpse of a Sith during the battle of Onderon, and he has been carrying it with him ever since. Though he swore never having activated the object, it was readily apparent that it was steadily corrupting him after carrying the object for years. With great difficulty, the other Jedi archivists convinced Yurr to dispose of the object. Raun, however, had other plans. Raun has always been fascinated by the Force, especially its forbidden aspects. He has always seen the dark side of the Force as a rare and dangerous animal; something that he would love to keep as a pet. Though he had qualms about stealing an object from a fellow Jedi, the temptation of what knowledge he could learn from the holocron was simply too much to resist, especially now that his master had little else to teach him. The same night as the meeting, whilst everyone was asleep, Raun snuck into Yurr’s quarters. Fortunately for him, Yurr was nowhere to be seen, but most of his possessions, including his lightsaber, were still inside the room. Raun quickly rummaged through the Selkath’s belongings without a second thought. It didn’t take him long to find the holocron. As he held it in his hands, the dark energy it emitted seemed to permeate through his skin and into his bones. He quickly hid the object inside his robes and left the room. Unfortunately, Yurr was standing before the door just as Raun made his way out. Without warning, Yurr lunged at Raun, and a struggle ensued. Normally, a sufficiently strong person could overpower Raun, but it was apparent that the Selkath was severely weakened by the years of carrying the Sith holocron within his person. Despite this, Yurr put up a ferocious fight. Eventually, however, Raun managed to gain the upper hand and reach for Yurr’s own lightsaber, which he used to cut the Selkath Jedi down. After the fight, Raun immediately disposed of the Selkath and his belongings. Vestar was largely undeveloped, the majority of its surface was still covered by forests, which in turn provided plenty of places to hide a dead Jedi. The next morning, when the other archivists discovered Yurr’s absence, they immediately assumed that the Selkath was already too corrupted by the dark side’s influence and left the planet to find his destiny elsewhere. Once again, the Jedi archivists separated and went into exile for fear that Yurr would lead the Sith to Vestar, not knowing of his true fate. Raun and his master returned to their self-imposed exile as well. During this time, whenever he had the chance, Raun began studying the Sith holocron, even managing to activate it without his master’s knowledge. The holocron was a recently-made one, no older than a century, and was intended to teach Sith initiates the aspects of the dark side. The gatekeeper imbedded within the holocron, a relatively unknown Sith Lord, recognizes Raun’s lust for knowledge and the anger that has been seething inside him since the fall of Coruscant. The gatekeeper found Raun easily manipulated by the darkness, and found him worthy of parting the holocron’s secrets unto. For the next few years, Raun spent his time learning from the holocron, much like how he learned from the Jedi archives all those years ago. Though he was successful at keeping the holocron from being discovered by his master, the holocron itself has induced a steady change in Raun’s demeanor, which became readily apparent. Raun became more temperamental and easily angered by the little things. Heated arguments were not uncommon between him and his master. Eventually, after a particularly intense argument, which stemmed from a question about the Jedi’s inability to fight the Imperium, Raun walked off on his master, deciding to find a place where he could study the holocron in peace. At the age of twenty-four, Raun charted a course for Korriban, deep in Imperium space. Unbeknownst to him, however, his master was tracking him, for fear of him doing something rash, as he was always prone to do. On the planet of Wroona, close to the edge of Sith space, Raun was making preparations on his entry into the Sith Imperium. This was when his former master made her presence known, intent on taking Raun back into the light, as she has sensed the darkness within him for a long time. She had theories as to Raun’s sudden change of demeanor after their visit on Vestar, but was too hesitant to confront him without proof. Raun’s sudden descent into the darkness, however, his sudden flight of anger from his master, gave credence to her suspicions. She was aware that Raun took possession of Yurr’s holocron. She purposefully left Yurr’s fate off-topic, fearing that the truth was the same as her assumptions. When Raun refused to follow his former master, she insisted. Another heated argument ensued, which led to Raun running from the Cerean Jedi, deeper into Wroona’s capital. In the next few days, the two Jedi played a game of cat-and-mouse on the planet’s surface. Vast stretches of silence and preparation were punctuated by titanic lightsaber clashes between the two. Though the Cerean was more experienced in combat, Raun’s capacity to tap into his darker emotions put him in an almost equal footing with his former master. Their battle stretched forth for more than five days, until on the sixth day, Raun has decided that things have dragged on long enough. Knowing that he needed a significant advantage over his former master, Raun lured her into a refugee site not far from the capital city’s outskirts. He believed that his former master wouldn’t pour in the entirety of her strength for fear of hurting an innocent. His plan worked, and the two clashed in the middle of the refugee camp. As Raun had predicted, his former master was not pouring out her best, significantly increasing his advantage. Despite this, however, his former master managed to best him in lightsaber combat, and Raun was on the verge defeat. He never entered the battle without a contingency plan, however. Grabbing the closest refugee he could get his hands on, he shielded himself from his master’s onslaught, threatening to kill the refugee if he wasn’t allowed to leave. Before his former master could give him a response, however, Raun pushed his hostage towards his master who, out of surprise, instinctively attempted to catch the refugee. Using his command of the Force, Raun attempted to stun his former master. Had they been in a normal combat situation, Raun's former master may have resisted such efforts. Due to the fact that she was preoccupied, however, the sudden Force power aimed at her made her lose her balance for a time; enough time for Raun to capitalize on the situation. Using his command of Force telekinesis, he threw his master off her feet like a ragdoll. Weakened by the sudden attack, the Cerean Jedi could only look on as Raun approached her and slew her with his lightsaber. With his former master’s failure complete, Raun’s path to the dark side has reached the point of no return, to which he could only smile. After his victory over his former master, Raun continued his travel to Korriban, within the Sith Imperium. As a sign of his complete defection, he gave out the names of the Jedi Archivists he met on Vestar, and the last known places they were hiding at; based on what information he got from his former master before they separated for the first time. With this, Raun was given leave to join the Sith academy on Korriban, with a whole new horizon of knowledge for him to discover.
