It was a gorgeous party, fine food, rich drinks, it reminded Mara of the socials she used to attend with her mother and siblings when her father was required to entertain politicians in the FWA. At least this time, she was not required to wear bows in her hair or hot iron her hair until the curls straightened. She knew how these parties went though, generally you were not here to enjoy yourself, it was a way of making connections, high connections, creating favors and offering ones in return. The men hosting this social were of a slightly different crowd, one in academics; there were some politicians here, probably for the purposes of grants and funding for their universities. Though she was here on invitation to report on the success of one doctor...professor, some academic nerd in her language.
He had recently come back from an expedition, bringing back some sort of trophy in the success of his finds. Mara had taken some time to read up on the expedition, eventually tunneling into the never ending holo-links of terms and history of the people and locations from where this oddly shaped trophy had been gathered. She stood with a glass of champagne, her evening gown now becoming itchy and uncomfortable from the boredom that was beginning to show on her face. Folding her arm across her center, she tilted her head in curiosity as she tried to figure out what was so desirable for such as oddly shaped piece of stone.
Mara held in a yawn, and decided to see if she could get some more food before heading off for the evening.
