Hey there, piping in with some questions that came up during character creation. Hopefully, someone can take the time to answer them. So,

In reality, just how separated is the Jedi Lord's army from the actual jedi order? I assume the order still mantains a presence; if so, would it be acceptable to use NPCs and backstory characters from the order (as opposed to the jedi knights) for story purposes? Finally, would it make sense for a young jedi to be considered a basket case as far as jedi teachings and philosophies in the order go, but whose combat ability is too good to pass off, and so they are sent to the lord's army to get rid of them/put them to better use there?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if I make no sense at all. Tired and probably high.

The Jedi crusade operates out of Ilum with travel paths towards towards Sith space. The Jedi Council resides on Tython and busies itself with the daily safety of civilization. So is there a distance? ...Yeah. There is. Now? Can I tell you how wide it is or how politically dramatic this distance is? ...Nah. I can't. But it's probably somewhere in between, "a difference of opinion" and "political deniability" at this point.

As for being a basket case? No. There is never any reason that a Jedi's meta-physical potential would ever be put before their mental stability. Ever. Especially on a battlefield. After all, basket cases are 10,000 times more dangerous to friend and foe, than any 'meh' fighter the Order produces. Throw in the ever-present temptation to turn to the Darkside? And the possibly declines into sub-zero category. Cero. Zip. Nadda. It's like asking: "Hey, so this grenade has a random timer that could be 10 seconds or it could be 1 second? So, if I make the grenade bigger, is it a better grenade?" ...The answer is always no. Do not use that grenade.

That said... (And that's a big however..,) This is a Roleplaying website set in a fantasy universe. So, it doesn't have to make sense. Heck, Ol' Jinny recruited Anakin. Look how that turned out. Anakin wasn't stable at all. But, because he was the 'Chosen One' they let him play ball. Years later, he killed every single Jedi he could get his hands on. Oops.

At the end of the day? It's your story. So. Do what moves you. :D :p

I agree mostly with the above comment. Not looking for any super crazy Jedi right now.. If it is a mild case of zealot then ok I can accept that but there is a difference between that and being a basket-case.

^ He's the Faction Leader. So his opinion counts for wayyy more than my off-the-cuff reply. You should do what he says. Lulz. :p

Yes, poor choice of wording on my end; she is not mentally unstable at all. Perhaps I have a wrong perception of the meaning of "basket case", but my train of thought was more along the lines of her not completely agreeing with the more phylosophical and spiritual side of things, causing friction with her jedi teachers. Despite not embodying many of the jedi's virtues and being a general troublemaker, she is considered too good a fighter to spend her time in the library, as her superiors in the order would want her to. Therefore, she's sent to the Knights to put her to use there, but mostly to get rid of her. That's why I asked about the separation of the actual order/council and the lord's army; would it make sense for someone to start out on the former, but eventually get sent to the later? Or are they too tightly in conjunction/too separated for this to happen? Or, I mean, does the order even have it's own jedi, or is it only the council? I'm sorry for the fustercluck of questions, but I looked and looked and couldn't find these answers anywhere.

My character is a council member that stepped away to lead an army against the Sith. The order still exists mostly on Tython as the less militaristic form. The council simply gives the Jedi knights their blessing and support but they are essentially uninvolved npcs. Separation would work where a member of our Jedi would be seen as a member of both groups yet not under direct control from the council. My character reports to the council but not in the sense that they tell him how to war. Your idea seems fine as long as it isn't leaning dark side or too crazy.

Make sense?
