I am writing up a character to RP with, is there a rank within the Sith Order that you must start off with or can he be created within that rank of your choosing, I'm not talking about Emperor, or Emperors' Hand, or anything too high, more like a lightsaber instructor for an academy or a Warrior.

Hi, and welcome :)

Generally speaking in terms of rank you can start on the bottom but one rung (marauder rather than acolyte).

However rank and role are not the same thing. I'd imagine that an instructor (as opposed to the principle, say) would be a marauder in rank, even if their role is quite different to a marauder who goes round the galaxy slaughtering civilians.

So I can start off my character as a Warrior ~ Assassin ~ Sith Lord ~ Master, etc?

Hmm, I'm not sure I follow you.

Assuming you want to do a sith, both a warrior and assassin would be examples of roles that a marauder could fill, which is an available starting rank (being on rung 2), Sith Lord is then a rank immediately above that, which would require promotion. The Lord would probably keep to a large degree their prior role, but with more leadership - a warrior becoming a general, an assassin perhaps running a spy ring, say (but it's not as clear cut as that, being a marauder doesn't preclude leadership, it depends on the role you carve out for yourself). To become a master would require throwing yourself at the mercy of the Jedi, convincing them you were redeemable, becoming a Knight and then getting promoted ;)
