Andara

Ben worked on his own ship to get off of Andara every day but it was slow going. He had the know-how but lacked the resources which caused him to often choose between working on the ship and his next meal.

He had to get a job but was wary of getting trapped in some meaningless grind that was popular in the small spaceport he called home. No, he wanted something more. He had pondered tagging along with one of the freighters crews that came through, but they often paid so little it wasn't much better than slavery.

When he got a message from someone looking for an out of the way spaceport to work on his ship in exchange for some credits, he leaped at it. Maybe it would give him some credits to make some real progress on his own ship.

The next day, he waited in one of the empty landing bays as the ship descended. Ben had a bag of tools with him.

Before too long, the Messier 7 would finish making it's way to the spaceport. Newton's astromech droid M7 was at the helm with Newton in the front passenger seat. M7 was very good at what he does despite being an older model of droid, M7 has always been reliable at Newton's side.

Newton came here with a goal in mind, he has finished his latest work, an ancient droid artificial that connects to the ship, something he had obtained from the Unknown Regions, and now fashioned to be compatible in modern vessels. He know he has to get it installed on his ship, but despite his knowledge for droids, he is no starcraft mechanic by any means. Connecting the AI to the whole ship is too much for M7 as well, so he has to seek out other help. He doesn't trust any mechanics from any of the better known Core Worlds, nor really at Blackwell with his AI. He's also willing to pay a good amount of credits for this to be done. So, a small time spaceport on Andara is where he got in contact with his mechanic for the day that he's about to meet.

Newton had to admit, Andara was easy on the eyes.

The Messier 7 would land at the empty landing bays, Newton and M7 already saw a person waiting for them, that must be the mechanic. Newton's astromech droid took them down gentlely, good landing as always.

Shortly, the ships doors would open, the ramp would descend. And the Newton and the astromech droid on his side would emerge. Newton was wearing more casual stuff for today, wearing a space-leather jacket.

Now that he on the ground, the Blackwell employee would look at the mechanic and greet him, nodding at him. "Greetings, pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm Newton." he introduced himself. "Ben, right?" he asked the other person to confirm."

As he approached, he wiped dirty hands on a rag before tossing it over his shoulder. He gave the man a warm smile. "Same. Nice to meet you," he replied cheerfully. Ben was wearing grease-covered overalls over his average clothes. He had managed to clean most of the grease smudges off of his face, but some still lingered.

"That's me," he added as he looked over the ship, giving a quiet whistle. "Nice ship you got here. These Mneffe-Class as fast as they say they are?" he said, making conversation as he eyed the hull.

"So what can I help you with?" he asked as he turned back to Newton. It wasn't often he got actual customers but from time to time there were those that wanted to lay low, so chose him over the other spaceports. Ben didn't much care for the reason he had come here but was excited to work on a new model of ship.

"Thank you"
Newton would glance towards the ship. "The Mneffee is decently fast yes, but it's hyper-space speed is top tier. The Messier 7 has never let me down" he would say. It's true though, the Mneffee models sublight speed while isn't the greatest, it truly shines in hyperspace with it's Class 1 hyperdrive. Journeys through hyperspace that would be daunting are in fact much quicker.

So, now he asked what he needed help with, he can appreciate that he's getting down to business. Newton doesn't mind, as he is eager to get this done as soon as possible. Timer is money after all.

Newton would then pull the object from his jacket pocket, and then hold it for him to see. "This is a blackbox for the AI i developed. RI-G7 Suite or 'Rigel'. I need it installed on my ship." he said. "I'm looking to have it installed and connected to all systems in my ship" he would nod his head. "If you want to examine it, careful though" he would pass it, just in case he needed to examine the AI blackboxed with the ancient-looking casing. There would be various plug-ins at the bottom.

"My droid and I aren't able to do it, so... here we are." he stated. He would pause, let him have time examine the blackbox, and maybe formulate a gameplan . "You think you might be up for it?" Newton would gesture towards the ramp, inviting the mechanic onboard his ship, so that he can explore see what he is working with.

He looked at the box, slightly wide-eyed at the tech. It was fancier stuff than he had ever seen. Part of him wanted to ask why he had brought it here to him but he didn't want to lose the opportunity to get hands-on with the AI.

He took the box gingerly when it was handed to him, examining it. "You developed this, huh?" he said looking up the man before looking back down at the box for another moment, finally handing it back to him. "Well...uhh..sure! Might take some time though to get it fully connected," he said.

One of his pit droids walked out, always eager to help but they were often more trouble than they were worth. He waved it off. "Don't think I am going to need your help on this one, buddy," he said to the droid who shrugged its shoulders and shuffled off in defeat.

He followed Newton onto the ship. "So, if ya' don't mind me askin', what kind of work do you do?" he asked. They would need to start in the cockpit and start running wires from there. He wouldn't know what all the job entailed until he started piecing it together.

He took that well, guess it's not every day some is tasked with wiring an AI to a ship. At least Newton didn't bring along a much larger ship, or otherwise it might be even more tedious. Newton nodded when asked if he developed it. "Correct" It's derived from an ancient Gree AI he found, but he adapted it to be usable on modern ships.

Newton looked one of the pit droids he came out with, those weren't known for their reliability, but Ben intends on tackling this project by himself. An AI would need care and diligence put into it as it's being installed. Newton would hate to imagine and an AI malfunctioning and suddenly cascade failures to everything attached to it.

When asked what kind of work he does, he would answer. "I'm a droid engineer and project manager at Blackwell Automata." he said, not really shy about his population and him working for the mega-corp. In response, he would not long ask him a question "So, just you and your droid here?" he wondered. That would be his only question for now, after he would answer (or not), he would let the man get to work.
