Where do you guys go/ what do you do when you're trying to find good pictures for your character profiles? I understand some people have a 'certain special site', and I wondered if I might be able to obtain a link to said site from any of you particularly magnanimous fellows.

Good luck. They've been pretty secretive about it so far, which leads me to think it is either 4chan or gelbooru, since that is where much of the internet harvests pictures.

I'd use them if they weren't so saturated in porn. I approve of the direction Safebooru is going though. They just need to improve their filters a little more, and it'll be a really good search engine.

I just told you what I thought they were using. I certainly was not suggesting you actually use said sites.

Of those I mentioned, only safebooru is even worth trying, and even then, be careful.

Try different words when you put them in the search bar.

Because if you put in say...Jedi. You will get a shit load of crappy pictures.
Use actual photos of people. I used a photo of Jared Leto from the band 30 second to mars.

It went over quite well.

VeI've had little luck at finding ones I want to use.. I suspect some users (like Caged Ghost) of finding the picture first and then creating the character around it (since most of Caged Ghost's profile pics seem to come from the same artist).
If not deviantart or google/yahoo/etc. Image searching, try picture hosting sites like photobucket.

That being said, the chans do have some pretty bamf images every once in a while, and, at least with 4chan, porn on the none-porn boards are pretty much nul.

Dan, try cghub.com. It's a pretty good website. conceptart.org is another one.

That's actually exactly what I do. I get a picture then I go off that. I use cghub.com alot. Try it.

I used a drawing for my first character here, but something I like to do when I want an actual photograph is go to modeling sites. I really don't like using celebrities as images personally because I see them as themselves, not my character. But finding an anonymous picture works better. The good thing about modeling sites too is every picture there is professionally done so you don't have to worry about crappy pictures, and you can get the same person in a variety of poses and hair/clothing styles if you are making matching avatars and signatures or such.

Just pick more normal looking people like amateurs and not creepy ribcage poking out girls, kk? :D

Per Fyrefly. The portrait section of DevArt is a treasure trove for awesome pics. Of course, this is only if you're looking for humans.

I usually go with an actor so finding pictures are just not hard. I also just happen upon pictures and keep them in mind for future use or I see it and get inspired and work on it immediately.

Most of the time, I'll make the character in a game and then screenshot it.
