Aoen Neziz

Independent Freighter-for-hire/Smuggler 1 Force Sensitive
Ryloth Twi'lek Female 28
Strength ★★ Dexterity ★★★★★ Stamina ★★★ Intelligence ★★★ Wisdom ★★★ Charisma ★★★

  • In keeping with the typical anatomy of her race, Aoen is striking of appearance. She stands at a tall 5'11", with a lean, slender build, feminine features, and two well-developed lekku, all of which denote her pure Twi'lek heritage. Pale blue eyes compliment her sky blue skin tone, which is broken up around her lekku with a combination of natural stripe markings and the tattoos that mimic them in order to extend and bring symmetry to her form. Like many of her peers, her eyebrows have been visibly tattoed on to give her face a more baseline human appearance. Aoen's Twi-lek heritage garners attention for the species' natural beauty; she is no exception to the rule, but equally shows signs of what she has endured in her past. A tightness of the skin around her forehead and light banding around the tips and base of her lekku indicate prior usage of a muzzle to suppress her natural communication. Her delicate, defined face is womanly; large eyes, full lips, and a small upturned nose are lended to by the fake brows and a narrow jaw for a dainty effect. This pairs with a full figure, rounded into an hourglass shape that accentuates her athletic muscular tone, particularly around her limbs.

Aoen wears a variety of clothing, but seldom as revealing as would often be expected of her femininity. Her choices always place comfort as the main priority given her active lifestyle and career, but little of her wardrobe doesn't complement her.
  • Adaptability is not simply a skill for Aoen, but a trait; her constant code-switching is a staple part of her personality as she changes her dialect, expressiveness, and tact for nearly everyone she meets. This manipulativeness lends to an impression that she may be selfish, and to some extent she is. She has little respect for authority, but is willing to bow or turn the other cheek for the sake of cash or self-preservation. Generally, the option which benefits her most at the present time is the option she will elect to take. Yet Aoen has a fondness for the underdog or the oppressed, and given the right circumstances she may be overcome by an unexpected generosity or helpfulness. These moments are typically lapses in judgement or restraint, as any unnecessary exposure beyond business could prove a risk to her freedom. Too many close calls with slavers and traffickers in the past has instilled a sense of caution for Aoen, and this reflects in her guarded stance around strangers, a readiness to bolt with a constant preparation for fight or flight.

Aoen is primarily business oriented, keeping company with the old droid that she acquired alongside her ship rather than sentient companions. She handles her engagements professionally and has little moral objection to the underhanded smuggling deals she takes alongside her legitimate courier/cargo services (with exception to any requests for aiding in slavery). Generally agreeable or even friendly to the point of recreationally socialising with her clients, she knows how to strategically maintain relationships for her continued success. These engagements rarely bring any pleasure or fulfillment to her, since most interactions with other species result in admiration either of her sexual or monetary value. As such, isolation is a preferable state, and she has yet to find anyone worth the risk of sustaining a long-term relationship with beyond that of client-to-trader.

Despite this, she is adept at putting on a social front, even if that includes playing into the sexualisation of her species for the benefit of the pseudo-relationships she maintains. She does not allow this to overstep the mark, however, as she generally commands the respect of her clients in the efficiency of her work. Those who place her on equal standing with themselves tend to earn favourable rates, and as such Aoen also exploits her working relationships for her own psychological and egotistical benefit.

Aoen's close relationship with her droid is one of the few examples of her genuine value of friendship. Disconnected from all, including her own kin, the fondness she has for her robotic flight partner is notably different from the friendliness she shows to others. For all of its lack of human value, she seems particularly attached to the droid and her intense innate self-preservation seems to go out the window when it comes to caring for it, to a point of non-sensical self-sacrifice.
  • Piloting - ★★★★★
Aoen's skills as a pilot are her primary ability and what generally permits her to survive throughout the galaxy. She is not particularly versatile in what she can fly, as she has virtually never touched any fighter class ships, but she has keenly developed her mastery of the freighters - specializing in the nimble light freighters that smugglers favour. Largely self-taught, her maneuvering is unique and unpredictable, sometimes disastrous. This is added to by her dubious feats of modification and engineering; she seems to at least convey an encyclopedia of knowledge of backstreet alterations to ships of her class, and at times the success of her creative outputs speak for themselves. Others, however, are laughable at best, destructive at worst. None of this detracts from her capabilities where apparent, however, as her continued business operations prove that she can fly - well enough that she has yet to fail a legitimate or illegitimate job.

    Marksmanship - ★★★★
Aoen is fairly competent in using compact firearms, specialized primarily in small to medium blasters (having never extended into a full-sized rifle). She can generally match up to most around her of similar background, but her skills do not extend to matching or outpacing specially trained individuals or authority, so her marksmanship is typically used to hold off and evade where she finds herself in serious trouble.

    Melee Combat - ★★★★
Self-taught in melee combat, Aoen's skill derives from an innate drive to survive. As such, she performs incredibly defensively, holding off opponents with dirty tactics that suggests much of her learning had been acquired through criminal backgrounds and fights. She typically favours small to medium sized improvised melee weapons, relying primarily on nimbly swinging whatever comes to hand around.

    Survival - ★★★★

Having fended for herself for some time, Aoen is a capable survivalist. She is able to forage and hunt in a variety of environments, and employs tactics and observation to adapt to unfamiliar terrains/prey. She is nimble enough to evade detection where necessary, and adaptable enough survive rugged or inhospitable regions, long periods of isolation, or otherwise difficult situations.

    Languages - ★★★
Capable of speaking/understanding Basic, Huttese, Binary and Ryl. Surprisingly, she is perhaps least capable at Ryl due to her early separation from her kin, knowing only novice to intermediate conversational language or gestures.

    Strategising - ★★★

A competent tactician, Aoen is particularly good at working under pressure to evade trouble or planning and executing jobs. This skill is restricted, however, as she only really knows how to strategise based on her own experiences and her own equipment/work, so anything new or out of the ordinary renders her entirely clueless - which is a serious source of frustration.

    Low-Level Skills

    Salvaging - ★★

Linked to her skills in survival, Aoen is a decent salvager and scavenger. She has a reasonable knowledge of use and value, and cross-compatibility. She has been known to (successfully and unsuccessfully) attempt to strip parts off of her own ship in times of desperation for cash, which by trial and error has given her a good indication of what is and isn't essential mechanically.

    Slicing - ★

Aoen could have effectively read 'slicing for dummies' with her limited knowledge, and its is likely the fruit of a momentary obsession with learning a new hobby that died out. She knows how to use single-use computer spikes, but very little else.

    Force-Sensitivity - ★

Aoen is semi-aware of her force sensitivity, but has no training whatsoever. With little practical knowledge of the world given her upbringing, she assumes the connection and channeling she at times experiences (mostly subconsciously/involuntarily) is 'something to do with her lekku' or Twi'lek spirituality.

    • Armor: AV-1S Model Flight Suit. Modular helmet adjusted for her lekku.
    • Weapons: Satyr Blaster Rifle. VersaTech Cosmowrench.
    • Ship: TR140 Series Light Freighter. Average condition, refurbished cockpit and gunner position (to original appearance). Hold is kept in excellent state of hygiene, but furnishings are tired/old. Crew quarters seem to have been refurbished, but around 20 years ago, so are dated again.
    • Droid: MR-Series Utility Astromech. Designated MR-86, Aoen's droid is old and tired (seemingly one of the first editions), but has developed a unique personality and attachment over its life. It is irate, fiercely jealous, and almost territorial, often disobedient even to Aoen with its foul mouth and tendency to wander. It barely scrapes by as an adequate co-pilot as it is painfully lazy, often complaining in binary that 'its joints hurt'.
  • Born on Ryloth as Aoyen'Neziz, Aoen was sold as a child slave at the age of four, and she remembers very little of her life on her home planet (hence her basic, childlike knowledge of Ryl and simplified, naturalised name). As she grew up enduring the harsh realities of slavery, she was passed from hand to hand between families seeking a young Twi'lek, until the age of 12 when she came into the hands of an wealthy elderly human male named Junmar Matlen on Nar Shaddaa (one of several other slaves, herself being the only Twi'lek). She was tasked primarily with babysitting his young, presumably orphaned grandaughter Samale (roughly 11 years younger than herself), as well as household duties, and was generally scorned by the other slaves as the favourite of Junmar. By the age of 15, he requested she maintain his now grounded fleet of four TR140s, assigning her readings and offering her the aid of the sole remaining functional droid, MR-86. Throughout this time, Aoen learned much of the mechanics and functions of light freighters, but was specifically restricted from piloting them for obvious reasons. While she was forced to wear a shock collar linked to a lekku muzzle to avoid her escape, she never attempted in most of her early youth given a developing Stockholm Syndrome and father figure in Junmar.

Her early obedience and favouritism directed at her earned her a limited amount of privileges in the Matlen household, as she was permitted access to the small library while he taught her reading, writing, Huttese and Binary alongside Samale, allowed to wander alone in the adjoining hangar and grounds, and became somewhat close to Samale over time. The more freedom she had, however, the more disillusioned and detached she became; mostly through her readings, her knowledge of a functional life expanded in the world of fiction she discovered. Junmar recognised these changes, but his ailing health and age left him in a difficult position - Samale was still too young to live alone, the other slaves were even less reliable than Aoen, and his criminal business links were encroaching further and further upon his inheritance wealth. He placed further restrictions on the young Twi'lek, banned her from the library and relied entirely upon a twisted familial 'relationship' that he portrayed in order to attempt to maintain control. Unable to immerse herself any longer, the damage had already been done as Aoen's disillusionment only grew - to a point of outright selfishness. In an underhanded and desperate move, a 19-year-old Aoen convinced the young Samale to retrieve the keys to her collar and unlock her in the night, at which point she took off with MR-86 on the best maintained of the TR140 fleet. Aoen does not know what became of the small family unit that enslaved her, but by the time she returned to Nar Shaddaa on a job at the age of 25, the old home had been occupied by new tenants.

With her time spent reading, Aoen had a basic knowledge of piloting that allowed her to get the ship off of the ground without being caught. She spent much of the next two years on the run, shifting between systems and planets, keeping discrete and relying on her instincts to survive in uncivilized habitats. Emerging from the end of the two-year period having read some of the books which she stowed into the ship, Aoen had starry-eyes for freighting and smuggling for the huge amount of freedoma and travel it allowed. The freelance work aspect was the opposite of her childhood in slavery, and so she began to pursue work as in both legitimate and illegitimate cargo-carrying upon her TR140, earning more experience as years passed and jobs accrued.
