DESCRIPTION
The Phage-class starbomber is a medium ground/ship attack spacecraft manufactured by the Imperial Fleet Works corporation and operated primarily by the forces of the Sith Empire. Although not as ubiquitous in service as the smaller Illness-class starbomber produced by Perfected Systems Unlimited, it is nevertheless a close second, and is indeed an important part of Imperial tactical doctrine, especially against the traditionally brush-fire conflicts which had been commonplace for several centuries before the bombardment of Medriaas.

The Phage is designed primarily for use in organized assaults against pre-designated targets. It is well equipped for its role, delivering its payload of bombs and missiles against primarily capital ships and ground targets. The vessel is well armed, with a useful load consisting of 8 proton torpedoes from 2 launchers, and 30 unguided proton bombs from twin ventral bomb chutes, each with a magazine of 15 bombs. 1 twin and 2 single light laser turrets grant the starbomber some ability to defend itself against enemy interceptors, with the twin mounted dorsally and the singles mounted ventrally.

In addition to its armament, the Phage is equipped with a light deflector shield, as well as a class 5 hyperdrive, giving it mobility and a small amount of extra durability. This is just as well, as although the Phage can engage enemy starfighters and other craft with its turrets, it is larger and slower, and less maneuverable, making it a tempting target. In action, the type often flies in formation with other bombers, allowing each craft to support its allies with overlapping fields of fire from their turrets. Escort starfighters are often employed as well.

Alongside heavier bombers, the Phage is popularly used in organized terror bombing campaigns against population centers, often as a reprisal for rebellious acts. The type is also used in a tactical role, bombarding enemy capital ships, fortifications and armies in the field.

LEGALITY
Restricted. In civilized systems, pilots must be properly licensed or be members of recognized armed groups.

INTENT
To create a medium bomber for use by the forces of the Sith Empire.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Phage-class starbombers are well armed, and it would require a plot for a character or faction to earn, steal or otherwise acquire one.
