So I was told that a new character can only have one house etc. and I looked around the rulings and haven't managed to find any limitations to your house. I'm wondering if any exist.

I've also noticed that a number of people have private strongholds or palaces. Can you do that with a new character or does it have to be accrued through active RP?

It depends on the character, my characters now don't have a home, my one last timeline was a simple apartment that got blown up. Just depends on the character I'd say and if it makes sense. I prefer story reasons for a place or acquiring such through RP.

So, for instance, if you had a Hutt, it would "make sense" to give them a palace? Interesting.

I don't plan on going for a palace of course, but a large stronghold might be of interest to me.

Some of those characters with strongholds and large houses have earned them at some point via RP. For instance, many of the Sith Moffs have strongholds because that's one of the expectations: that the character will build strongholds and whatnot to defend their world.

A shady underworld figure. I had his backstory involve the killing of a crime boss, which allows him to take over said crime boss' deserted stronghold. I'm just seeing if I'm breaking any rules, in which case I'll rewrite it.

True, true, but I've also seen some people put in strongholds in their character sheets. I'm just asking to see if I'm officially breaking any rules or anything. I do plan on building things up over time through RP as well.

as long as its not like a deathstar or something mega badass, you should be fine. If it's something that could be crucial and affect other people or factions then its most likely a no go.

It's in the middle of (relatively nowhere on) Tatooine, so I don't think it'll be a significant threat to a faction or anything. Not that I've equipped it with anything that could threaten a faction, anyway. It's mostly just a place for (very few) people to be. That should be alright judging by your response.

If I recall correctly, Tatooine is controlled by Death Watch. Might want to check in with the FLs over there (@Proleptic, I think?) to make sure they're kosher with it.

I'll also tag @Prudence just to be safe. I know he's the former FL for Death Watch, and could probably help you out in the event I'm wrong about the current DW FL.

@Gamov - Actually, that seems like a better opportunity for me to ask if you can tell me which worlds are pretty much lawless (not under the control of anything, including the Hutts). I'd actually rather settle in one of them, but I haven't had enough time to fully study the galaxy. I can easily change the planet name in my backstory to whatever it is.

Here's the Faction Territories map. As of now, Hutt Space is entirely neutral, though I think the Sith have some future plans there (nothing imminent though, I don't believe). Beyond that, there are a slew of uncontested worlds open for consideration.

@Gamov - Great, thanks. Probably going to have to avoid Hutt Space, though, since it's under the jurisdiction of the Hutts (I'm looking for a place without any sort of overarching control at all).

EDIT: Actually, Taris looks to be fine. It's similar to Coruscant. I don't mind having the Republic over me.

Lyannas family owns some nice houses and a 'stronghold' (abandoned ruin which they renovated)

I couldn't find any rules that would prohibit you from giving your character a nice place to live at ^^ as long as it's not a Death Star to quote TW26.

A house or stronghold is mostly for background-fluff anyway for most :)
