Hi team, (@Vosrik @Vinny @Fyston @Caramon)
Sorry, I'm not sure what the etiquette of this is but Al-Ric wouldn't have done what he did had Vosrik been on the steps then. Practically speaking, the crowd were asking for a master, had there been one, the best course of action would be to allow him to speak. Psychologically he was reticent to step forward until he saw that he was the senior Jedi (now you may be thinking that there was some arrogance in his assessment of himself compared to the other knights; and you may well be right ;) ) but he would not have done so with a master merely steps away.

I should probably have made this reasoning more clear in my post, but at the time we were a full complement of knights/initiates.
(I don't want to sound less than grateful, Vosrik, for you stepping in to make up numbers, though - I am)

I definitely understand :p though I suppose ICly Vosrik showed up a bit late, so the others wouldn't have noticed his arrival since he was last stepping out.

Edit: Also, Vosrik interrupted him from saying the whole thing so we could chalk it up to him not noticing Vos' presence.

It's just that he was there soon enough to see Xenefious' response and then close enough to reprimand Al-Ric: that would be some top level ninja skills...

I'm sorry, I feel like I've been misunderstood: Al-Ric wasn't trying to treat them like children - he was trying to give the crowd an opportunity to speak with one voice, so that the Jedi could respond coherently rather than their voices getting lost in a sea of shouting. The reference to a trick to use on children was not meant to make it patronising, but that children were more likely to be unruly.

It's not a matter of intent, it is how it is received that is the end result.

I understand broadly, but it implies that Al-Ric spoke with a tone he wouldn't have.
I guess what I'm struggling with is how to RP the character going forward: has he suddenly become insufferably patronising?

It is the words that were misinterpreted, not the tone. Not everyone is going to take it the way you want it to. That's just how people are, especially when some people don't want to be calm.
