Just a reminder, though I do try to get to name changes quickly, they are not an instant thing. Furthermore I'd like to reiterate the importance of choosing a name that you like and will be happy with. Character names are generally not a good choice, since characters have a bad habit of dying without warning or being archived, or falling out of favor with the user.

You have to remember, when you're picking your name you're essentially picking your handle that people will recognize you by out of game and on the boards in general. It's better to have something that you identify with than it is to take the name of a transient character (since this is not an MMO, characters are constantly in flux, and being known by a character name can get tiresome).

Just some food for thought.

I know this will probably cause some feedback, or people might have questions or they even might wish to tell me, in great detail that I am wrong about this. So to prevent a deluge of PM's I'm making this thread to discuss the ideas I put forward in my post.

I've always been a name change addict back since my days on IMVU.

Can't decide whether to be Marka or Marf next time.

I agree with not naming yourself after your characters though.

I know what you're saying about character names for handles, but I can't bring myself to play multiple characters on on one account (old habits die hard) so I have two accounts. One for Nakoma and one for Ryan Burton. :)

This is just me, but seeing how much the community here interacts with each other it would be better if you used just the one account. People know who you are, know tha handle you currently use, another account just creates confusion. But that's just me, nothing wrong with having separate accounts for different characters I guess, unless its against the sock puppeting rule, which I don't think it would be.

I agree with Sid, it just seems really impractical for both yourself and for other members. What if you decide to stop playing a character, or make more characters? Six is the maximum number allowed, seems silly to me running back and forward with six accounts, though that is only if you decide to have that many characters.

It's up to each individual person, and that's not what this thread is about.

I usually go by my standard interweb handle, but I wasn't sure how long I'd be around here...

So you'll probably get a PM from me asking for a change in the near future when I find the strength to not be lazy >.>

Changing your handle very frequently would be very confusing, but as long as there is some sort of restriction to prevent people from constantly renaming themselves to make it difficult to identify that account, I'm okay.

#001079. Old character name I used once. My number. Still my number. *Hides in a corner*

It took me at least two months to learn my own phone number. My brain would implode if everyone went by numbers.

As for renaming...changing a username is a big deal for me. I had the same username on virtually every site I joined from the time I was about thirteen until I was about eighteen. It was basically just a made-up word I thought sounded cool. I got sick of it earlier this year, and made the change to Mach2 on most sites. It sounds more badass and represents me better than the old username. I probably debated the switch for a solid month before I actually did it, though.

Using character names has consistently been a no for me, though. My username represents me OOC, not the characters I play. My characters have their own names.

Does this mean we'll be able to change our own names again? :joytears:

I think that's the mod we used to have, and it became incompatible with the site.

it was updated to v4.x.x

it should work. Last updated April 2014 (when this mod was installed early 2013/2012).
