The Omega Protectorate

The Past
Omega Pyre (OP) was founded by Aiden Mercer on Kessel some years ago. His organization brought order to the chaos around that planet, and he became popular. Founded as a Private Military and Security Contractor, the company grew in influence and power, expanding to several planets and utilizing the Fondor shipyards to create powerful ships to further their spread.
In time, Omega Pyre grew to be an area of order and security in an otherwise chaotic region of space. Omega Pyre actively worked with governments of planets under their protection, but did not run the government itself. Contracts were handled with the fledglings New Jedi Order, The Alliance and others to create a good reputation in the galaxy at large.
Sometime after creation, OP merged with the Dark Stars mercenary company, and then later with Syndicate. Several high profile victories increased OP’s prestige.
The Present
The Clockwork Invasion was a devastating blow to the galaxy, and OP was affected as much as anyone in the galaxy. However, Omega Pyre managed to emerge from the crisis with the majority of their assets intact. The Dark Harvest has seen the responsibilities of the Protectorate increase with more governments and worlds seeking the protection. Further addition to OP’s territory ensured that OP had grown to such a point that they were a legitimate governmental entity. Furthermore, the old system of contracts and personal understandings with planetary heads become swiftly unworkable with the influx of new planets and giant populations. What’s more, the small elite forces OP used for contracts and missions become severely overstretched by the rapid expansion. Therefore, a solution was needed which would allow the company to continue to be profitable, yet able to effectively govern. In essence, OP would stop being solely a PMC company, and has became a government.
Omega Pyre is now subsumed into a larger entity, and has become the elite military arm of the new Omega Protectorate.
The Protectorate has been run in the following fashion:
All inhabited worlds (over 10,000 permanent sentient residents) are grouped into sectors. These worlds select one representative from their sector to represent their interests.
These sector representatives meet in a body on Kessel called the Protectorate Council, or just ‘The Council’. This body can suggest legislation, but is not executive in nature, so it cannot be implemented, through the Protectorate Council the Protector can also offer grants for specific developments such as creation of shipyards, technology research, or raising an army, just the same the members of the Council are allowed to request for a grant or other form of aid for the planet or sector they represent during such a meeting.
Individual worlds have internal autonomy to run their own affairs as they see fit. External affairs and trade policy is handled by the Protectorate itself. A flat 2.5% tax on all transactions goes to the Protectorate government directly, in addition to other local taxes which are raised for internal use. Governors are voted for by the people, and have a variety of government types. An official Protectorate supervisor monitors matters and ensures the correct taxes and resources are allocated to the Protectorate. These supervisor positions are yearly posts to ensure no one person becomes entrenched.
An inner circle of Exarchs, Directors, and Head of Departments forms the ‘Small Council’ which manage the inner workings of the Protectorate and also Omega Pyre.
The leader of the Protectorate is the Sergeant Major, a position voted for life by the Council, with input from the Small Council. The Sergeant Major is head of Omega Pyre as well as leader over the Protectorate itself. They have executive powers, and can only be removed by a 3/4s vote of the Council or the unanimous vote of the Small Council. The current Protector in charge is Aiden Mercer himself.
Below the Protector are the Exarchs, leaders with both military and political responsibilities. These Exarchates will shift over time as they form the frontier defenses and oversight for the Protectorate. The Exarchs have complete authority in their areas, subject only to the Protector. Obviously this rank is only given to extremely trusted people.
The Future
The end of the regime has also marked the end of the isolationist stance by the Protectorate, while a droid tries to make himself a transparent unit of the people, often televising his appearances and not being afraid to visit the planets under his protection or fight alongside the soldiers of Protectorate. While some deemed this to be very reckless and make attempts at his existence easy, he usually retorts that he is made from Phrik and can always make a copy of himself to replace him. Through their isolation the Protectorate has maintained the trade and interactions with the Mandalorians, keeping the two factions allied and often coming to each others' aid. During the rise of The Sith, the Protectorate has held the higher moral ground, doing what needs to be done to protect the worlds under their jurisdiction and ensuring tyranny does not reign. They have also sent often reinforcements to help combat the tyrannical or oppressive factions of the Galaxy, such as the Horde or the Sith.
