Nor’baal Desilijic Fa’athra wins Gubernatorial Election of ISC world, Kessel

In what is being described as a ‘historic first’, a member of the Hutt Clans has swept to a landslide victory on Kessel, to become the first ISC Governor of the newly liberated planet. The winner, Nor’baal Desilijic Fa’athra, a member of one of the preeminent Hutt families, secured the victory with 97.3% of the vote amid widespread allegations that his opponent was a member of the drug-dealing Pyke Syndicate.

The Governor ran on a campaign that promised to outlaw the spice trade, and take a tougher line on crime.

The Holonet News Network understands that the Governor signed a decree outlawing slavery, which has historically plagued the planet, within his first hour in office.

Despite this, the Hutt Nor’baal has been accused of having deep familial ties to the Criminal networks for which his species are infamous. Addressing these accusations, a spokes-being for the Governor said that ”These allegations are false, and show a deep lack of understanding for the complex political and social structures of the Hutt species. Furthermore, as we work toward a better galaxy, the Governor hopes that people will place these speciest misconceptions behind them.”

The ISC has commented that they welcome the result of the election, which they believe shows the ‘inclusive and open’ nature of their Government.

Speaking at a press conference today, Governor N. D. Fa’athra said:

”Today marks a new golden age of commerce and investment for this beleaguered world. We shall commence the transition from a spice-based economy, to one that rewards entrepreneurship. With our partners in the ISC, Kessel is open for business.”

Despite the landslide victory the Governor enjoyed, rumours persist that protests broke out outside the Governor’s residents on Kessel today. The Government of Kessel has stated that no such protests took place.
