Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Or close the wall up with our dead!
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Or close the wall up with our dead!
The Sith were fighting tooth and nail for whatever they had left. They'd been beaten down and stomped on for too long. Varyn was sick of it, and he knew he wasn't alone. The Sith had been dealt yet another blow at the hands of assassins this time, and before the despair or feelings of loss could set in, Varyn had made his move.
Such thoughts were long in the coming, and though the spider had merely bided his time, the Force had clearly dropped an opportunity in his lap. Whether he felt ready or not, the time to move had come.
The holonet crackled to life with the same mask that had been seen on the holonet twice before. People would recognize the Sith Lord's mask, and feel however they would about it. Varyn was unconcerned with that opinion. If they had no opinions about him yet, they would soon enough.
I don't need to inform any of you of what has happened, Varyn said. Only people who lived under a rock would have been unaware of the Emperor's demise. Perhaps more interesting to observers than Varyn's words was the fact that the Grand Moff was at the edge of the picture with him.
An Old Imperial Sith Lord and the Grand Moff of the Imperial Republica.
But the Empire - the unified Empire - will not be without a leader. I am taking up the mantle of Emperor effective immediately, he stated. It was as much a statement as an open challenge. There were many people who could have attempted to move for power, but none had the resources, backing, or reputation of the Sith Lord. Any who wished to challenge him was welcome, as was custom.
The time of the Empires fighting one another and squabbling is over. Put aside the animosity you may bear for one another, and face down our true enemies, he said. There were Mandalorians and Jedi that needed to be stopped. Their power had grown to a point that stopping them would be a monumental task, but Varyn wasn't interested in stopping and he knew there were others who felt the same.
I am a child of both Empires, and there can be peace. Join me, and together we can bring peace to the galaxy, he said. Some would see it as only rhetoric or propaganda, but Varyn truly believed it. He was fighting for peace and prosperity in the galaxy, no matter the cost.
