Nevek Borza

Biography

Nevek was born in the dust. The son of a whore and a miner in Basalt Drill 3. Life in the mining spire was brutal, short and hot. The sweating masses, the swelter-muck of toil and carnal rampancy as the infection of bodies littered and loitered around the height of the structure. Those that lived underground deemed ferine by those above, living barely and briefly on the effluent runoff of water and nigh-inedible sustenance that drooled downwards. Nevek wasn’t THAT unlucky. At least he saw sunlight. Not that the sun on Dustworld was a thing to cherish. The surface was every bit as sunscarred and hellish as the Spires were wet and glistening with industrial and bodily fluids. The machinery there ran on entrails and engines and the surface was no more hospitable.

The Dustworld was a wasteland of irradiated, chemically castrated grit and dried soil that had turned to lifeless sand, it seemed, aeons ago. Inhospitable to all but the maddeningly determined forms of life that clung to the acrid rock. The Dust Barons liked it that way, kept their people desperate, kept them on top. With nowhere and noone to turn to, the people of Dustworld would have no choice than to pay the Baron’s “taxes” and pay everything they had for food, water and supplies. It also meant that the oldest children were forcibly recruited to work for the Barons. Nevek was one of dozens taken from Basalt 3.

Thirty years on he drives for the Barons. An old, ramshackle land crawler fitted desert fashion with an enclosed cab and a treadspeeder hung on the side. He drives supplies - banal and exotic between Spires and the tunnels the Barons use to move things unseen. The Barons treat him with a degree of trust, in the vein of trusting him not to be stupid enough to double cross them. They bleed him through taxes, making anything resembling personal profit impossible. Nevek or Vek to his friends is a tough old man, but he’s growing tired of barely surviving and wants something better.

Personality

A realist, stoic, determined, pig-headed, brutish, but fair. He’s hard, but he’s not a monster.

Skills

Vassik had to learn survival in the worst way. Driven to do certain things that leave a mark on you that time doesn’t fade. He was educated to a limited degree by the Barons’ men in that he’s literate but the rest of his education was that of survival. Driving, gunplay to some degree, desert survival and everything that entails.
