DESCRIPTION
The Nerf-class light freighter is a transport manufactured by the Rekklemat Products corporation. Like most of the goods they produce, the Nerf is based on an old - indeed, very old - design which originated from a different company, in this case an ancient starshipwright known as Starlane Hypernautics. Taking the hull-form and basic interior layout, Rekklemat heavily updated the Nerf's specifications to once again make it appealing to contemporary customers, making it a minor success.

Indeed, the current Nerf-class light freighter constitutes the second time the type has been updated and sold by Rekklemat. This current revival was prompted by a company audit, which discovered a forgotten storehouse on Alsakan, which contained a mothballed production line and some 500 completed hulls awaiting internals. Never one to let resources go to waste, Rekklemat set a team to sprucing up the design with an eye toward finishing the stored hulls, resulting in the current Nerf and a tentative return to mass production following the successful sale of the first 500 examples.

The Nerf is a largely unremarkable freighter, 35 meters in length with a crew of 3, as well as a capacity of up to 75 standard tons of cargo and up to 4 passengers. Speed is an average 55 MGLT, coupled with a class 2 hyperdrive. The ship has a light deflector screen for protection, as well as 2 dual medium laser turrets, one located above the cockpit with the second mounted centrally on the ventral hull.

Since its re-introduction, the Nerf has proven reasonably popular as an entry-level freighter for new pilots, as well as those nostalgic for older designs.

LEGALITY
Legal. Light freighters such as the Nerf are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To revive a ship from the previous timeline.
