Well, I've been gone for a while and my old master turned to the darkside. So I was wondering if there was any jedi knights out there, willing to take a student. Thanks in advance.

I think this type of thing is supposed to be posted in the Signup and Training Requests section.

And there's a whole bunch of initiates waiting for masters there. =/

Caleb should be eligible for Knight soon, if not already (his skill with Force and lightsaber is already well past that point). Once that happens I'll try scoop up like 2-3 padawans at once and start clearing up the mess in that section of the forum :p (for IC reasons of course, so as not to be too help the Jedi metagamey).

You should check out Caleb's threads since he last spoke with your Noetikon. He's made some good strides towards the Light and has shown some real effort at finding peace. One more of those kinds of threads or something similar to a revalation and I think he would be more than qualified for the title.

But yea, the problem isn't that people need to become Knights (there are lots, though far less than the Sith have in Crusaders), it is that the people who are Knights seem to not care about training Padawans at all.

oh there is going to be a push to get that done and have more knights take up student.

Skhai will also be taking one or two under her wing " litterally" coming soon as well. on top of the classes

How though? You can't make people take up students. Lots of people seem to think their character looks "cooler" (or something like that) as a lone Knight that never trains Padawans. If they thought differently, their actions would show it. There's also the other case of people thinking it's better to only take up one student, which I don't think people have realized that ICly, the NJO is different than the JO and ICly there would be a huge push for them to take up multiple students. So they must just also think OOCly that it's cooler for people to only take up one student if they even decide to.

Otherwise... we wouldn't have this problem.

ideally one would want dedicated teachers, and for the rp health of a faction too it's always worked out better when a master has spent time with their student, the " more experienced/ and or skilled/ well versed" tend to take a lead in that, but it's in that that characters, and even the players themselves grow, adopt adapt etc, and tend to become better and stronger themselves.

this is how it use to be, and in theory still is- though not in use.

At the end of the day however ranks are not given , they are earned- should one aim to earn a Master title, then they best consider how to best do that, and that would be by being good examples, being actively supportive of the order and involved and so on. Given that I think the ones really wanting that growth will step up and help nurture that environment

to bump this there will also be some watching and seeing whats being learned when or to what degree... Just to make sure we don't have padawans or knights pulling off things even skhai or sigur couldn't do it they combined their abilities.

Eh, ranks are kind of meaningless to me, what is important are the characters and their stories. I've had everywhere from Initiate to Master level characters in various factions and all I can say from my experience is that when people let the desire of a thing like "ranking-up" affect how they roleplay it shows in their characters' poor development. Even if they are actively supporting their respective faction a character should behave how it should behave, without OOC objectives or influences. So it really is hard to find the balance of people who should be ranked up ICly and making it work with all of the OOC politics and desires people have.

to bump this there will also be some watching and seeing whats being learned when or to what degree... Just to make sure we don't have padawans or knights pulling off things even skhai or sigur couldn't do it they combined their abilities.

This depends on the character so much. Although most people choose to follow the rank = power paradigm I like to mix that up quite a bit in my roleplays. A perfect example of this is my creation of the character Caleb. Someone as talented as Caleb joined the NJO with so much prior training and is still being considered an "Initiate".

Rank is not always equivalent to power, although it shouldn't be an excuse to OP characters by any means.

Now I feel like the original intent of this thread was derailed.
