DESCRIPTION
The N-1 starfighter, commonly known as the Naboo starfighter, is a by now antique design of combat spacecraft once operated by the Royal Naboo Starfighter Corps. Considered one of the most striking and graceful ships of its day, the N-1 was nevertheless a powerful, effective design, although it was quickly rendered obsolete by the rapid advance of starfighter technology during the Clone Wars.

The N-1, designed and built by the Theed Palace Engineering Corps, is a startlingly compact design even today, just 11 meters in length and accommodating a pilot and an astromech droid, being one of the earliest military vessels to be designed in part around the then-new R-series astromech droid. Unlike many starfighters of its time, it incorporated shields and a class 1 hyperdrive, as well as a 6-shot proton torpedo launcher, although it was only equipped with a pair of medium blaster cannons otherwise.

Despite spending the majority of its service life flying in aerobatic displays during festivals and gathering dust in hangars, the N-1 did have a number of chances to prove itself, including during the Naboo-Trade Federation war, when a small squadron of N-1s was able to utterly destroy a droid control ship in orbit above the planet. It also defended Naboo in various skirmishes against he Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. In both instances, the N-1 demonstrated its effectiveness in combat.

By the time of the Galactic Empire, the N-1 had been largely retired by the RNSC, replaced by newer designs in front-line service, although it lingered in various second-line duties into the New Republic era. During the Galactic Civil War, a scant handful were covertly provided to the Rebel Alliance early on, although most of these were replaced by T-65B X-Wings once they became available. Besides this, the type was never officially offered for export.

In the present day, the N-1 has been completely retired from active service, with nearly all examples having been mothballed or put on display in museums. A handful of N-1s exist in private collections as well, and are highly prized by starship connoisseurs.

LEGALITY
Restricted. N-1s are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To add a recognizable vessel from Canon to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
N-1 starfighters were never officially offered for export by Naboo, and the planet's military only commissioned small numbers for its own use. Characters not affiliated with the Royal Naboo Starfighter Corps would have to provide extensive justification for owning one.
