Multi-Purpose Field Recon and Assault Blaster (MP-FRAB)
Affiliation: Various Independent Weapons Manufacturers (If you know someone tht can fit the bill here, and allows their products to be access by everyone in the galaxy, they may take this title- send them to me)
Ownership: Anyone can purchase these weapons, provided they have the means to do so.
Intent: I wanted a multi-purpose weapon that could deliver a higher performance to the hands of our Adventurers. The Rifle is to add a more customizable version of the Blaster that is capable of switching from the assaulting range of normal combat versus the long range abilities of a recon sniper. Much like in real life, most snipers are in fact combat rifles that were modified to become snipers, I intend this to be the Star Wars version where the Galaxy Far Far way's technology can make an easily traversable bridge between the two in the form of a blaster with minimal alterations to the actual weapon.
I hope that this becomes a standard issued weapon used by the vast majority of the Galaxy with reasonable balances that don't make the rifle overpowered, but allow it to serve the two most important functions in a blaster: Effective Combat Range, and Long Range Precision Targeting.
Just because a PC or NPC has a Blaster, doesn't mean it simply has to be a "Blaster".
Model: MP-FRAB 22 (Multi-Purpose Field Recon and Assault Blaster, Mark 22)
*Referred to as the "FRAB" or the "Mark 22"
Type: Blaster
Size: Long Rifle: The blaster rifle is, on average, longer than the average (~20 to 24in/610mm), making it slightly above average in difficulty in maneuvering, but at the gain of slightly higher performance at a range. It can be bulky with customizations and the modifications that make it a sniper in function, but compared to what is exclusively sniper rifles, it is easier to maneuver. This also adds to its weight being above average(6.0 to 8.5lbs/3.9kg). The length and weight vary depending on what customizations are added to it.
Composition: The standard weapon design consists of mostly titanium alloy and carbon composite, but variations (usually made by different manufacturers) can be seen with wooden stocks, durasteel components, Alluminum Alloys, or even duraplast in some cases. These various materials can drastically alter the weight of the weapon, both threatening to reduce or increase the weight of the rifle, but usually proportionally to the durability of the rifle. If your Rifle is different from the standard composition, make note of this when adding it to your Character Profile.
Range: With the Assault Blaster Modifications, the Rifle as a standard recommended effective range of 250 meters, while the Recon Sniper Modifications can increase this range to 450 meters. However, without properly calibrating the rifle in between modifications from the Rifle to the Sniper Mods, the effective range can drop to 400m, though recalibrating this doesn't take very long in the field. However, if the shooter expects longer range shots ahead of time, the Rifle can be calibrated ahead of time to eliminate this loss of range.
Ammunition Capacity:
The Assault Blaster Version can hold 24 medium-intensity Rounds of Ammunition capable of being fired in a Semi-Automatic Fashion.
The Sniper Modifications, which include a magazine change over, can hold 9 high-intensity Rounds of Ammunition capable of being fired one at a time with a 1.45 second recharge time between shots.
Description: The most important function of the weapon is the Multi-Purpose function. This weapon is highly preferred, simply based upon the fact that it has the ability to start off as an Assault Rifle for medium range combat, but in the same mission, it can be converted to a Sniper Rifle with a decent range for the more precise moments in the mission. For this reason alone, it is a highly preferred weapon by many militant groups that want to allow the greatest variety of options for their militants. It's high accessibility and highly customizability also make it an easy choice for anyone looking for a weapon that is painfully common, but highly personalized. It is because of its availability in the galaxy that it is able to accommodate this wide variety of customizations.
The next best part of the Rifle is that it is extremely durable. It was specifically designed with the concept in mind of being able to be taken anywhere, and endure as much of the environment as the wielder can. It can be taken anywhere in other words. Jungles, deserts, marshlands, urban settings; it can handle them all. It can still function to maximum performance, even after being submerged in thick mud, sandblasted in a sandstorm, or being entangled in thick underbrush. This also allows it to be properly camouflaged for the Recon functions of the Rifle.
After a mission or (more importantly) during a mission, the Rifle is capable of being efficiently disassembled and reassembled for a deep cleaning, inspection, and repair of the weapon, allowing it to continue to work at maximum efficiency. This efficiency in assembling and disassembling the weapon is in part due to the fact that it is easily Modified between the Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle Variations of the weapon.
The main drawback of the rifle is that it doesn't perform to the same capability of more specialized weapons in either the Assault Rifle or Sniper Rifle fields, where a more specialized Assault Rifle might have a Magazine Capacity of nearly 40 Rounds of Ammunition and where a higher performance Sniper Rifle might exceed 500 meters in its Recommended Effective Target Range.
*Features:
Modifying from the Combat Rifle to the Recon Rifle:
The Modifications from the Assault Blaster to the Sniper Rifle include changing the Magazine, Adding a Barrel, Adding a Scope, and recalibrating the energy processor. This requires bringing the appropriate equipment with the wielder, usually on a utility belt or in a bag. This also means that the total weight of the weapon is always at its maximum, under the assumption the wielder keeps the modifications with them the whole time before modifying the blaster.
Switching over from the Combat Rifle to eh Recon Rifle can take anywhere between 40 seconds to 3:30 minutes, more or less, depending on the familiarity of the user with the device, the experience with Modifying the weapon, and other conditions.
Properly Calibrating the weapon in the field for maximizing the range may take an additional 2:00 minutes, and it might very well even require shooting the weapon under certain circumstances.
Variations:
Full Recon Sniper Rifle Mark 22
*Referred to as the "FR Mark 22" or the "FRAB Sniper"
This is a version of the MP-FRAB Mark 22 that has been fully and (for all intents and purposes) permanent sniper version of the blaster. However, it should be noted that this completely defeats the original purpose of the weapon being a multi-purpose field weapon, and is highly not recommended.
The weapon is modified through its internal components being properly calibrated and altered/upgraded in a process that could take hours for someone who knows precisely what they are doing ahead of time and has all the parts available with them, as well as requiring the weapon to be "tested" multiple times.
However, going through these permanent modifications successfully can increase the recommended effective target range upwards to 550 meters, as well as increasing its blaster bolt intensity to proportions that easily compete with other high powered sniper rifles on the Market.
MP-FRAPB
*Multi-Purpose Field Recon and Assault Particle Beam
This is the Particle Beam version of the original FRAB which utilizes a complete re-working of the internal systems of the weapon in order to handle shooting the Particle beam variant of the weapon. However, this reworking comes at the expense of performance overall:
The Assault Rifle Magazine Size is reduced from 24 to 13 Rounds of Ammunition, fired one at a time with a 1.25 second recharge time.
The Sniper Rifle Magazine Size is reduced from 9 to 4 Rounds of Ammunition, fired one at a time with a 2.1 seconds recharge time.
The Assault Rifle Recommended Effective Target Range is reduced from 250 meters to 200 meters.
The Sniper Rifle Recommended Effective Target Range is reduced from 450 meters to 390 meters with the same draw backs of not properly calibrating the modification from Combat Rifle to Sniper.
This version of the Rifle is also highly illegal due to certain testing environments finding that the weapon can fail, causing the user to become seriously injured; However, frequent maintenance, replacing of even moderately weakened parts, and using it for shorter durations keep the Particle Beam Variation of the Rifle on the Black Market for those daring enough to seek one out. However, it should be noted that in many instances in which the rifle uses 2 consecutive magazines, it fails somewhere in the end of the second magazine, if not sooner, depending on maintenance habits. Because of the extreme modifications the rifle originally needed to accommodate the particle beam upgrade, the rifle was made in a few batches that was quickly shut down and recalled due to the discovery of the machine's unstable nature. This version of the rifle is rare in the Galaxy, and getting your hands on one would not only be expensive, but difficult to do based on availability. Furthermore, attaining the frequent parts required to maintain the weapon is extremely difficult due to their limited numbers, forcing buyers to settle on the close cousins of the original parts, making the weapon even further unstable. These variations of the weapon are more often seen as a method of making money amongst the black market crooks than as a field weapon.
FAB Repeater
*Field Assault Blaster Repeater
These permanent Modifications on the Original FRAB turn this Blaster into a repeater that can fire at a moderate rate of fire, but at a horrible trade off. The Rifle's power output and range is reduced drastically as well as is the recoil on the rifle nearly unbearable. Furthermore, and for the obvious reasons, it can no longer be Modified to a Sniper Version. The Size/length of this version is also significantly shorter/smaller, generally being near 15 Inches/380mm.
The Recommended Effective Target Range is reduced to 100 meters, but if you want a chance at hitting anything, the range is more akin to ~25 meters.
The Magazine size is increased from 24 to 36 Rounds of Ammunition
The bolt intensity is also reduced enough to only barely be stronger than a Blaster Pistol.
