okay so a quick question. where are moffs in relation to the military structure? They control there own armies/navies but is a grand admiral above a moff or not? are they equal on the military structure? and both a moff and a grand admiral serve on the legislative council thingy. so that just adds to the confusion i think?

The Moffs only control Intelligence. The is just an empty title like Senator. All they're good for is bickering.

False. Moffs and Grand Moffs are in command of planets and sectors, respectively, and hold command over their jurisdiction's judicial, military, and governmental powers. They have loads of RP potential if you choose to look at it that way, but if you see it as an empty title like Senator obviously it's going to translate into how you write your character. Moffs and Grand Moffs also make up the only loose politicial system of the Empire, the Supreme Tribunal.

Take for example people like Grand Moff Tarkin who was placed in command of the Death Star, over Admirals and Generals; I can't exactly say where they place in relation to Grand Admirals and the like but I'll get back to you or have Xeno poke his shiny head in.

Trell has it dead on. Think of it this way; Moffs are like mayors, and Grand Moffs are like governors. They control aspects of the military within their systems or sectors, like how a mayor/governor controls the police and paramilitary within their city/state district.

Only in the Moff's case, they are more or less tyrants. But they are also very much politicians and bureaucrats, can impost taxes, make up individual sector and system laws, etc. To compare, Moffs and Grand Moffs are Senators with steroids on a power trip.

The power of Moffs/Grand Moffs against Admirals/Generals and Grand Admirals/Grand Generals is via regional appointment. Within their system or sector, under normal circumstances, Moffs and Grand Moffs are the highest authority.

However, Admirals/Generals and up can be appointed control over the military forces or planetary systems belonging to a Moff or Grand Moff, or can be granted the authority to seize control over a given army or naval force belonging to a Moff/Grand Moff. In methodology, it is in much the same way the STC is assigned or appointed under military leaders in the Imperial Military, despite being separate from mainstream military.

wow. they sure did make the imperial system difficult. I understand what you are saying but am a little confused. Basically Moffs are independent of the military structure however are given control over land armies regions ETC. So moffs are kinda like the feudal lords like countes and dukes in such that they are not apart of the military, have there own army and land, and swear an oath to the king (emperor).

Okay thanks. I suppose that would pretty much make it a military nightmare when trying to pull rank on a moff :)

also trellheim said that moffs make up the Supreme Tribunal yet so do grand admirals

Yes, feudal lords is another good comparison.

And Trell was still correct; the Supreme Tribunal is a governmental body made up of the military and political structures.

yes I was aware that trellheim was right. Its just the way he said it made it sound exclusive to the moffs. Anywho thanks for that. I think I get it now.

According to this article I guess a grand Admiral would normally outrank a moff.
