Affiliation:
N/A (heavily modified version of original model; original hull, sublight drives, and some sub-systems; base hull developed and manufactured by MandalHypernautics)

Ownership: Caine Huskaatir

Intent:
Personal transport and starfighter to be used by Caine Huskaatir for travel and work. Others may use variations of the base model so long as they maintain similar statistics and get approval for any significant upgrades/increases. Original parts are still available on the shadow market, but have become increasingly rare since the discontinuation of the line.

Model: Modified Kar'kad-class Space Superiority Fighter

Name: N/A (pending approval)

Dimensions: 10 m, 8.7 m, 4.5 m

Class: Heavy Starfighter

Crew: 1+ (one pilot, one astromech)

Complement: N/A

Armament: SRC-9 Ultra-Light Rotary Laser Cannons (2; one located on either side of cockpit), Light Laser Cannon (1; twin barrel, turreted; positioned just behind and above the cockpit with a 360 degree turn radius, astromech controlled), Compact Missile Racks (2; external wing-tip mounts, one medium missile or two short-range)

Equipment: Short-Range Sensor Array, Holographic Targeting Suite w/ Helmet Integration Package (to cut down on space usage and the weight of traditional displays and targeting systems), Standard Life Support System, Ultra-Light Shield Generator, Basic Ejection Seat, Etheric Rudder

Speed: 180 MGLT (originally 200 MGLT)

Hyperdrive Rating: Class 2 (originally Class 0.4)

Maneuverability: Very nimble and agile; the ultra-powerful sublight drives stretching the entire width of the craft allow for near instant shifts in direction. Small maneuvering thrusters located on each side of the craft, protected by retractable armor panels during landing and atmospheric flight, as well as an etheric rudder, further assist with handling and maneuverability.

Description:

The Kar'kad was the height of Mandalorian, Verpine, and Geonosian engineering. Even today, it stands as a testament to their skill and ingenuity. Much like the Bes'uliik starfighter of generations past, the sleek, blade-like Kar'kad is capable of considerable speed despite being heavily armored. The drawback is its relatively light armament, though it compensates for this somewhat by utilizing weaponry with a rapid rate of fire. With large, powerful engines stretching its entire width, it is capable of incredible speed and maneuverability, exceeding that of many of its rivals. With the most advanced sensor, navigation, and targeting modules available, this craft was once proof that the Mandalorians had taken a giant leap into future, no longer bound by the constraints of the older, more basic technologies they had been known to cling to stubbornly.

Once a top of the line model, this specific hull has seen heavy use over the duration of its service, having been severely damaged, rebuilt, and modified on numerous occasions. Though it no longer matches up to its original specifications, it is still a formidable starfighter and has been heavily personalized by its current owner.

The two modular bays on the port side of the craft (from the original design) have been replaced by an astromech port, which is positioned to the side and back of the cockpit so as to not obstruct the pilot's view. The light turret that has been installed just above and to the rear of the cockpit is designed to be operated by an astromech. Because the cockpit is void of the controls and displays necessary due to space and weight limitations, pilot control from the cockpit is not possible, though the turret can be locked forward and fired as a fixed weapon emplacement in the absence of an astromech.

The starboard side modular bay has been converted into a small storage compartment and can be used to stash personal items and emergency supplies. With some modification, this compartment could be converted back into a weapon bay, but the non-spec replacement parts used to rebuild the craft have reduced available interior space considerably. Because of this, the converted bay would only be able to support a single, compact mounting rack with four light, short-range rockets housed in a protective pod, a single dumb-fire munition, or a small sensor decoy/chaff launcher.

The light, wing-tip mounted armaments have long since been removed from the hull. In their place are compact, external missile racks capable of supporting one medium size homing missile or two light, short range homing missiles each. The obvious drawback to these externally attached munitions is their vulnerability to damage, which could potentially take the entire starfighter out of action were they to detonate. For this reason, these racks are rarely utilized save for hit and run type scenarios, when contact beforehand is not expected and they can be fired quickly at a target just outside of laser cannon range.

The hull armor has been replaced repeatedly since the starfighter left the production line over eight standard years ago, the original beskar-titanium alloy long since removed after sustaining heavy, irreparable damage. The current armor plating was recovered from a crashed Imperial starfighter and is comprised of neutronium-impregnated titanium-zersium alloy, also of MandalHypernautics origin.

I've still got mine! I should look into scoring some new upgrades after reading this over. It's been sort of a running joke the last year or so that the thing's a bitch to maintain.

Caine asked me if I could make a modified version with some very specific extras and I obliged. I didn't quite get it exactly how he wanted, but I think it's more likely to be approved the way it is now. He wanted the astromech where I put the turret and two turrets on either side of the cockpit. I think I made some pretty good trade offs and downgraded quite a bit over the original design, which even I'll admit was pushing the limit compared to a lot of other fighters out there. I'm hoping he didn't need the waterjets and ballast tanks. I never used them myself, but it was always neat that it had the capability.
