PERSONALITY:
Miranda is a quiet girl who doesn’t speak much, but she has steel in her and when she has her mind set on something she will see it through. Her early years have given her an appreciation for light that only one raised in darkness can see, also her early years have given her her fear of spiders. Speaking of the dark, she fears the dark, dark that is so black that you can’t see when you wave your hand in front of your face. Miranda mostly communicates through nods and shrugs, preferring to keep to herself than the company of others. She is content to wander aimlessly and think and daydream to herself.
BIOGRAPHY:
I have no memory of my time before I was sold into slavery and forced to work deep in the spice mines on Ryloth. In fact, my earliest memories are in total darkness, like darkness so black you couldn’t see your hand when it’s touching your nose. My mother cared for me and taught me all she knew about how to survive while deep in the mines and told me wonderful stories about what it was like to live above ground that is until she died of course. I really didn’t know when it happened, just that it did. People died all the time in the mines due to all sorts of things, accidents, getting lost in the dark, or taken by the energy spiders. It just happened. I had just gotten off a long shift and waited in our quarters with the other slaves, and she never showed up. I’ll be honest, after that point life had lost all meaning for me and I had just about given up any hope of ever seeing the sun or the stars. That is until a new slave joined our ranks and helped me.
His name was simply, Jade. He found me in the darkness and he reminded me so much of my mother that I couldn’t help but to trust him. He helped me find my will to live again and taught me many things. He showed me how to use my innate powers, how to see without actually seeing. Sounds like a riddle I know, but with his help I no longer stumbled around bumping into things. At first when I felt this power inside of me I thought it was magic, but he told me it was a power called The Force. He told me how it was a power that bound and connected all things. At first I didn’t understand a thing he was talking about, but as I followed his teachings I began to see in darkness.
As I started to use my new skills, I found working in the mines to be almost enjoyable and I found something else as well. I had found a father. Jade never raised his voice to me or scolded me if I did something wrong. He had the patience to teach me and as he taught me I noticed something different about him. He told me that it was nothing to worry about when I first mentioned it, but I found he had a sickness inside him that was slowly sapping his strength away. I wanted to do something with this newfound power I had, but in the end I couldn’t. We were still slaves after all, still bound in darkness.
Now I hate spiders, arachnids of any form to put it bluntly. I’m not talking about your run of the mill no bigger than your thumb spider, I’m talking about spiders that can eat a full grown Wookiee alive spiders. These giant spiders were unfortunately what had made the caves and produced the spice that we had to mine and mine in and I had also learned it was one of these that had taken my mother. However, it was also thanks to these that I escaped my prison but I couldn’t have done it without the help of Jade. It was he who had taken the initiative when we were forced to go deeper into the caves to mine the purest of the spice, glitterstem. That was also the most dangerous place to be in the mines. Where the glitterstem was, were also the nests of the spiders that produced the spice. However, Jade and I used this to our advantage. I don’t remember the exact details of our escape, only that we nearly died several times in the escape. Later I realized that it was only due to our connection to the force that we escaped at all.
Everything was a blur to me after we escaped, but one thing was clear. Jade was dying. I was finally able to see, finally able to see the sun, to see colors other than black, but none of that mattered because the man who had helped me so much, the man who had freed me was dying. We managed to board a passenger freighter out of Ryloth and leave the planet once and for all, but as we landed Jade had faded. Once again I was alone, this time on a strange planet with strange things that I had never seen before. I was alone, I was scared and I had nowhere to go. I was near the verge of death when I was picked up by the city guards and taken to an orphanage where I met others, well not quite like me, but others who knew what it was like to be alone and there I’ve stayed for the past year. There I learned many things, such as reading and writing but also that I was on a planet called Naboo. However even though I can call this planet home, it doesn't feel like it. I know first hand how life can take unexpected twists and turns, though for now I am content to wander the streets of Naboo.
