--- Family is not just what we are born into. Family is who we choose to care for. ---

Coruscants' hazy cloud cover dimmed what little light reached down to the mid levels. While it was mid day it looked like dusk.
Kar had been visiting his Family and was just about to leave. He walked out of the door and waved at his mother. She was at it again. She did this every single time he came by. Did she even realize he wasn't ten years old any more?

“Yes mom, jeez, I am a grown man you know. Can you stop mothering me already?!”

He heard his mother answer something in the kitchen but he could not hear her over the noise of her pots and pans full of food and the clanking of the kitchen utility droid. One of his younger sisters stuck her curly-haired head out of the door and laughed wholeheartedly about his obvious embarrassment.

“Right Bro, as if that is ever going to happen. Just let her!”

She said to him and winked. She waved at him, turned and walked back inside. He could see her vanish into the kitchen door. She probably and went to help her mother. She was always eager to help her mom out in the kitchen.

Kar smiled and turned to leave. As the door closed behind him and he walked out onto the Street his Comlink vibrated. He pulled the connected Datapad and checked what was going on. Someone had sent him a message. The sender's holomail address unknown to him and at first he wondered who was sending him messages to his private holomail. Not many people knew this account even existed. He was expecting it to be junk mail. When he opened it however he had to smile even wider and it made his day. Deea was on Coruscant. He had not heard from her for a while and had worried a bit. The girl usually kept him informed about what she was doing and what was up in her life. She had told him about his great life on Nar Shaddaa and how well she was doing. He had been happy for her. She had not had an easy childhood and the fact that she was going places now and leading the good life made him happy. He checked the address she had attached to her message and walked to his rental speeder. This was turning into a full on family reunion he thought and smiled.

Coruscant
Midday

Going through a list of contacts Armideea found herself looking at a name that she realized she hadn't messaged in a while, by a while it was more like a few years. The last time she had sent a message to Kar was probably when she still actually lived on Nar Shaddaa and had just gotten into the Black Sun, which was at tops six years ago, but it had gone far too long since she last wrote to him. Looking out through the window of her apartment she figured that she should hit him up, but, he could also think that she was actually dead, which in of itself might be a good thing, but then again, he had been what she had considered her only friend for the majority of her life.

Sending him a quick message with her address she figured that for their first time, meeting in person again, after such a long time, he might as well get to see that she had actually gotten settled back in on Coruscant, at least for the moment. How long she'd actually be staying on the ecumenopolis was a different question all together.

But, with the message sent there wasn't a whole lot she could do, it wasn't like she could take the message back, even though she did wonder if he still remembered her. Chewing on her lower lip a bit she put the datapad away and glanced out the window once more.

Getting up from her seat she figured that she might as well get dressed, so, she grabbed a pair of pale jeans and a loose-fitting top which she wasn't sure where she had gotten, or who it had belonged to, but it 'fit' so it would have to do. She still hadn't unpacked all her clothes from her latest trip, the one to Hapes had taken a bit longer than anticipated so when she had gotten back she had just thrown the luggage onto the couch and then left it there.

Having gotten dressed she glanced over to the datapad, there was no reply, perhaps the address was dead? Or perhaps he had just forgotten who she was. Eitherway, she couldn't tell which was the case. Now, she just had to wait.

When he entered the lobby of the building to which Dee had sent him the address he took out his pad and checked again. Was this right? He looked around and took in the scenery. This looked fancy. There was a reception as if he had just entered a hotel and off to the side was a lounge area where people were quietly conversing. Some were reading or working on their datapads. It all looked very civilized. And the place itself, he could only call it nice.
And the people. Kar absentmindedly patted some dust of his sleeves. He wasn't badly dressed mind you, after all he had just left lunch with his family and his mother simply would not allow for her children to show up dressed like slouches. In here however he felt seriously under-dressed. People around him were wearing fancy suits and extravagant clothes that screamed their wealth out to the world.

After standing in the entrance for a few seconds as if frozen in carbonite he walked over to the reception desk and looked at the young employee working there.

“Kar Darakis, Miss Vyalzokov is expecting me.”

He told the young Mirialan girl behind the reception desk and after nodding at him she quietly checked something on her terminal. After a moment she looked back up and handed him a printed printed flimsiplast access card. She got on her toes and and pointed to the elevator on the other side of the lobby, visible behind a group of potted plants.

“The elevator will take you to Miss Vyalzokov's floor, Sir.”

Kar smiled and nodded at her and left to call the elevator cab. While he stood at the door two young aliens, one of them looked Zeltron, while the other was clearly Togrutan. They were giggling among themselves and glancing at Kar. He ignored the young girls and when the cab arrived he got inside and held the flimsiplast access card in front of the reader. When it beeped and shone a green light he leaned against the wall opposite the door and watched as the girls stepped into the cab themselves.

The Zeltron opened her tiny clutch and looked for her own card. When she finally found it she triumphantly showed it to Kar, her floor and apartment number clearly visible. She was biting her lip and looking into Kar's eyes while she ever so slowly swiped the card. After wards she blushed a deep purple and continued to giggle and whisper with her friend.
Shortly afterwards the door closed. And the elevator started to go up. It accelerated fast and then started to brake just as quickly. When it stopped the door opened without a sound and the Togruta pulled her friend out of the cab. The Zeltron looked back and waved at Kar.

“Bye!”

She squeaked and bit her lip. The door closed shortly after the girls had vanished out of sight and when it had Kar had to laugh. Thank good he had been to Zeltros and knew how her species.
When the elevator took of again and took him to the floor Dee's flat was on. He got out and walked down the corridor. When he stood at the door he pushed the little button that sounded the door chime and waited for it to slide open.
Although he was happy to see Dee he made his face look worried. She better tell him what she was doing living in a building like this.

As time slowly passed and the datapad remained silent she figured that he just must have forgotten about her, eh, she had figured that most of her Coruscanti based contacts had, well, those before her Black Sun days that was. She moved through her apartment, picking up various items and moving them around as she tried to pass the time, though eventually she just found herself once more on her couch, reading on her datapad, going through various local news articles that she might have missed while she was on Hapes and thus been too focused on other matters to really bother with Coruscanti-related affairs.

However, as fate would have it, a ringing beep came from her comlink, so, she got up from her too comfortable couch and walked over to it, picking it up and answering it was the receptionist in the entrance, that was weird. The Mirialan girl told her that she had a visitor who had just stepped into the elevator.

Her brow furrowed as she thanked the girl for the notice and as she closed the connection she remembered who was coming over. She realized that she had completely forgotten about having sent Kar her address, and judging by the fact that she had a visitor coming up the elevator she figured that it must be him, unless it was someone else who thought she was trying to do some booty call or something. As if.

She walked back into her living room and sat back down while she waited for the ringing on her door, which soon enough it arrived. She stepped into the hallway, casting a quick glance into the mirror to make sure that she didn't look like a Hutt and then pushed the button and after a brief unlocking sound, the door slid open.

There he stood, Kar, taller than she remembered, but then again, she hadn't seen him in person for what, thirteen years? Smiling she opened her arms. "Kar! I didn't think you had my information saved, come on in!" She said with a smile as she stepped back from the door a bit, to show that he was indeed welcomed in.
