It was only because the Empire announced a split from the Sith, which would leave a vacuum, that the ISC switched up tactics to smaller strikes. Emryc never responded to this Altair Din’s Holo, because he had made it clear he would only deal with them when they presented unconditional surrender. The buried Sith in him relished this - he had abandoned the pathetic excuse of an Empire years ago. This Imperial was cleansing the ranks the way it had needed for a while now. All of this left Emryc with some rare opportunities to take time away from work.

Nothing of the war crossed his thoughts as he waited at the foot of the hiking trail on the island. Emryc had cleared his schedule only because Jaikus repeatedly insisted, though his time was still limited. He arrived several hours earlier than everyone else, taking his time to meditate and exercise. He was always the type to show up early where his husband could sleep in till noon.

The half Sephi checked his chrono, glancing up when Jaikus arrived, “Ezra is free to see whomever he pleases,” He stated flatly to his husband, “Why are we obligated to be involved?” The idea of families meeting significant others was bizarre and pointless to him. He had grown up without the concept of a family. He had despised meeting the family of his ex lover, and he outright refused to meet Jaikus’ family for several years until he decided he found them mildly tolerable.

Emryc was adorned in a tank that had one of his routine slogans on it - something he chose specifically because it irritated Ezra. Despite being largely aloof, he took every opportunity to toy with his children. He was a titan of a man, almost pushing 7 ft tall with broad shoulders and a perfectly chiseled physique honed by decades of a regimen billions followed now.

If his son and guest took too long, Emryc would start the hike by himself. Jaikus knew this already from the way the half Sephi glanced at his chrono again.

For weeks now, Jaikus had been consumed with the changes that were occurring in his family. While he stood by Emryc through the war and ensured that Jayna was safe, the decision for Ezra to join the Jedi had been a dramatic shift. It took no shortage of getting used to, and the Axxilan hadn’t neglected to call and stay up-to-date with his son, multiple times a week. Thus, he was among the first to be told that Ezra had an official boyfriend - and Jaikus could hardly contain the giddy smile he wore upon hearing the news.

It was no secret that Jaikus was a total sap - and couldn’t have been happier for Ezra. His own relationship was the greatest thing that had ever happened to the Axxilan, and the knowledge that his son had someone of his own - someone who could be there in the worst of times and that made him happy, was all that a father could hope for. Naturally, Jaikus helped to arrange their little get-together when there was finally a time of free time - rallying the entire family to participate.

As was their tradition, Jaikus arrived a few hours after Emryc - seemingly appearing out of thin air while the half-Sephi was meditating. For all the years that had passed, the Axxilan never failed to get a kick out of sneaking up on his husband - wrapping an arm around the half-Sephi to briefly capture his lips. "Lookin' sexy as ever," He said, unashamed to remind his husband exactly how he viewed him. He wore a tighter pair of pants and a short-sleeved button-up - sporting a lighter material for the hike. His outfit was accompanied with boots that actually provided support, alongside a sporty chrono on his wrist.

When the question was raised, Jaikus brought up a hand to lightly caress the stubble of his husband’s cheek. “Of course he is,” The Axxilan said with a nod. “But this is the first person that Ezra has wanted to tell us about.” Though everything was taken with a grain of salt given their age, it was the first time Jaikus had seen his son in a committed relationship. “Someone he cares about - and I think it is important that we know each other.” Jaikus smiled up at Emryc. “Us Thorne's can be an intimidating bunch, after all." Jaikus had no intention for that fact to cause any kind of rift in his close-knit family.

"Besides," He poked Emryc in the chest. “Don’t pretend like you aren’t looking forward to messing with him,” Jaikus arched a brow at his husband, flashing a knowing grin. He knew the half-Sephi well enough to know that Emryc would happily toy with his son in front of Dash and enjoy every moment of it."

Ezra had invited Dash to the planet in advance of this meeting. Dash was a ball of nerves, but Ezra wasn’t entirely too worried. His dad was warm and fuzzy and Pops was so stoic he was more like a houseplant. Of course, none of this helped settle Dash down. This was one of those very rare opportunities where they didn’t have to rush back to a temple, go to lessons or be pulled away for missions. He took full advantage of it, spending extensive time with his boyfriend and taking him up on what sounded like a challenge when they parted on Ithor. Of course, this left Dash in probably the worst shape possible right before a hike.

The quarter Sephi contently overslept and was even snoring a bit. He would remain out cold like that until Dash practically had to hit him awake. After grogginess and confusion, Ezra finally pulled himself together, taking his usual absurdly long showers during which Dash would also have to yank him out. After much bickering, he was finally dressed and ready to go.

Ezra was still yawning when they arrived at the site. He wasn’t a fan of hiking, but they had to arrange this around Pops schedule and something that could get him out of the office. Dinner was not an option because Ezra refused to subject Dash to his Pops’ boring diet.

He spotted his dad and walked over to give him a one armed hug, giving Emryc a tilt of his chin to greet him. Ezra stood there for a moment before catching some signals from dad. He quickly grabbed Dash by the hand and pulled him forward, “Dad, Pops, this is my boyfriend Dash.”

Dash was nervous as hell. It had been his idea to meet the Thornes, but the closer he got to it the more he wished he could put it off. But it was too late for that.

It came on the back of one of the best nights of his life, where he and Ezra had used every inch of the bedroom. From some unexpected roleplay to tearing around the place like animals, they had got completely lost in the ecstasy of each other. It had been amazing.

But now Dash was short of sleep and aching in places that would not thank him for a hike. He only hoped he could cover it all up with some concealer and a smile. Today just had to go well.

It took an age to wake Ezra up and get him ready, but Dash at least had time to practice his handshake in the mirror while his boyfriend was zoning out in the shower. The Rhinnalian spent more time than ever before freshening up his face, styling his hair and straightening his clothes. He had gone for a classic look that hopefully made him look angelic and no trouble at all. Some of his bolder outfits had tried to tempt him, but he did not want to raise eyebrows just yet they were hiking up a hill after all.

By the time they got there, walking around to the foot of the trail, Dash had been holding his smile so long that his cheeks were hurting. Of course, the sensation vanished as soon as he saw the two men, along with everything he had planned to say and do.

"Hi Mr Thorne" he managed, holding out a hand to Jaikus. Ezra's dad was all class and green-eyed elegance, with the same warm face Dash had seen on Ithor.

He turned to Emryc but Ezra's Pops had not moved an inch and was still a little out of reach, forcing Dash to take an awkward step towards him.

The sheer scale of the man was almost overwhelming, standing there ripped and chiselled, his thin tank stretched over massive shoulders and barely covering sculpted pecs and a thick muscled midriff. Several thoughts raced through Dash's mind at once, including one or two he could never, never share with Ezra.

His hand went out but he panicked about repeating himself, instead finding himself saying "Really nice to meet you Mr President".

Unsurprisingly, Jayna had risen before the sun - arriving at the base of the trail with Daddy(Emryc)several hours before the rest of her family. The quarter-Sephi had always emulated and taken after Emryc, and there was little difference when it came to her time management skills. Under normal circumstances, she would’ve been entirely too busy with the Legislative Youth Program and her coursework on Theed, but Papa(Jaikus) made it abundantly clear that this was a mandatory family outing.

Even Jayna had to admit being curious to meet Ezra’s new boyfriend. She’d seen the amount of floozies that seemed to throw themselves at her brother, and promptly decided it wasn’t her business. But this was the first person he’d decided was important enough for the family to meet.

While Daddy was patient enough to stand and wait for the others, the same couldn’t be said for Jayna. The father-daughter pair had gotten a headstart on the exercise with a job around the hill, and the quarter-Sephi opted to do one final lap by herself. She took her fitness routine deathly seriously, and the HoloNet signal was already too spotty to burn time on GalaxyGram. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for Jayna to catch up with the rest of them.

Jayna had forgone her usual accessories and heels for the outing - instead dressed in a pair of name-brand joggers and a sports top. Her black hair was tied back into a neat braid, while her outfit was accessorized with expensive Spike sneakers and a Naltech FitChrono on her wrist. Both items alone were several thousand credits, and yet somehow weren’t the most expensive things she typically wore.

As she rounded a corner of the trail, Jayna’s silver gaze immediately fell upon her parents - flashing Emryc one of those warm smiles that rarely seemed to surface. The quarter-Sephi Sephi didn’t hesitate to walk up to Jaikus, wrapping her arms around the Axxilan and planting a kiss against his cheek. "Hey Papa," Her attention moved to Ezra next - flashing her twin brother a before casual grin before pulling him into a tight embrace. “Damn Etsy,” Jayna whispered, her gaze flicking over to Dash and his spiffy attire. It was no secret to her twin that Jayna found the other Padawan to be attractive, and the eyebrow raises she gave Ezra conveyed that sentiment clearly.

Naturally, she wasn't any help in encouraging her brother to introduce his boyfriend - casually glancing down at her FitChrono with a blank stare, lingering in the awkward silence that Jaikus had to subtly encourage along.

“Nice to see you again,” Jayna said, having clearly remembered Dash from his dramatic kiss for the reporters. She promptly extended her hand to shake his own. She graviated towards Ezra while introductions were met, flashing her brother a grin ever now and then.

Emryc returned the kiss, though he wasn’t entirely pleased by the answer to his question. Ezra had likely only just figured out how to use his prick for something other than pissing, and Emryc seriously doubted he was capable of having a ‘significant other’. However, he wasn’t going to fight that battle with his very romantic sap of a husband.

“Bothan Spynet already had a file on the boy and his family on my desk yesterday,” Emryc stated flatly, “There is nothing I need to know about him,” He declared. Extensive details on Jobe, Esme, Lan, Dash and Tyto Pavan, where they worked, where they lived, their immediate sphere of influence and background check data were all put together in a neat little file for the President. It was almost to the same level of scrutiny as whenever Jayna even mentioned a boy’s name. Jaikus despised it, but Emryc didn't care.

Emryc was about to start walking when he heard the others arriving. He gave a nod to his daughter, whom he found largely tolerable, before glancing over at his son. He stared at him just as blankly as Ezra looked back at him until the boy suddenly remembered to introduce the boyfriend. Emryc calmly looked at the blond, not needing the Force to tell he was seconds away from collapsing from fright. The half Sephi’s face was entirely impassive, striking silver eyes drilling right through the teen. Emryc shook his hand in a firm grip that would feel crushing, but he said nothing. Dash would catch a whiff of the same expensive cologne he sometimes smelled on Ezra, suggesting the latter shamelessly stole it.

With that, he turned and started on the hike, adjusting his chrono to track his steps, time and heartrate.

Jaikus lingered against that embrace for a moment or two - bringing one hand up to grip the back of Emryc’s neck lightly. He took no qualms with savoring that little bit of time before his children arrived, and certainly didn’t care about potentially embarrassing them with the tail-end of any shows of affection. The Axxilan enjoyed having the half-Sephi all to himself, and for all the ways that he loved and missed his children dearly, he wasn’t entirely displeased to have them out of the house for the first time in nearly two decades.

Of course, the Axxilan could also tell that Emryc wasn’t entirely satisfied with his answer. Jaikus wasn’t naive enough to disregard Ezra’s age and the realistic nature of the relationship.. But he didn’t discount the fact that it was the first real relationship, either. The Axxilan had grown up exceptional standards and judgment for anyone he dared to bring around his family, and - despite his husband’s own status in life - had been prepared to put his relatives in check, long before bringing Emryc to Axxila.

Even if their relationship was the young love of teenagers, it was important for Ezra to know that his family was supportive of whoever he was in a relationship with, that he could bring them home, and would never have to hide anything purely because of his Jedi affiliations.

About him, no,” Jaikus said softly with a tilt of his head, “But it is important to your son that you know him. The Axxilan fought the urge to roll his eyes at the mention of the Spynet report - something he never quite agreed with. Even still, Emryc had never heard the Axxilan loudly protest or make a point to argue about it. Because deep down - even if Emryc wouldn’t admit it or his children wouldn’t see it - Jaikus knew that the background checks and extensive review was, ultimately, how Emryc showed that he cared. By making sure that Erza was safe with Dash and his family didn’t have any questionable ties. By making sure things were taken care of, methodically and before they even happened.

Of course, the pair weren’t left waiting for long. Jaikus’ expression immediately lit up when he saw Ezra - taking a single step forward to return the one-handed hug. “Ezra,” It had been a few weeks since he’d seen his son last - and it was reflected in the way he squeezed the boy. He grinned a bit, glancing at Ezra for a moment. “The routine is paying off,” He smiles, giving his shoulders a squeeze. “At least I know you’re eating well at the temple,”

His attention flicked over to Jayna when she arrived only a moment or two later, returning the kiss on the cheek and hug with his daughter. “Jay,” He smiled, reaching up to brush a strand of the girl’s dark hair before she shuffled off to the side. Jaikus’ gaze flicked over to Dash

..And then Jaikus watched as his family collectively seemed to freeze in place - silver eyes filled with blank stares and effectively stood like a group of statues. Emryc made no moves to introduce himself and Jayna wasn’t much better - which wasn’t surprising - while Ezra did the same, completely blanking on the whole part about introducing his boyfriend.

For Force sake..

The Axxilan blinked a few times, waited as a few more awkward seconds passed, and finally decided that intervention was needed. The Axxilan cleared his throat a bit and made eye-contact with Ezra - his emerald gaze flicking over to Dash and then back to his son, over to Emryc, and then back to Ezra. His eyebrows rose ever-so-slightly with the faint jut of his chin in Dash’s direction, all the subtle signs that finally seemed to convey the message to Ezra.

When it finally worked, Jaikus stepped towards the Padawan - extending a hand to shake Dash’s own. “It is nice to properly meet you, Dash.” His smile was as genuine as the warmth in his eyes - a sharp contrast to the frosty silvers of his family. He arched a brow, watching as Dash introduced himself to both Jayna and Emryc - not entirely surprised by the reactions of either of them.

To his endless amusement, Jaikus watched as Dash proceeded to stare at his husbands muscular physique - blue eyes tracing every visible and bulge of the tanktop that he wore. The lingering gaze and awestruck look on his face didn’t make it entirely too difficult to decipher what was going through the boy’s head. “Fan of the routine too, I take it?” Jaikus asked after a moment, his own gaze flicking to Emryc’s choice of clothing and the routine slogan that was printed just above the half-Sephi’s defined pectoral. Jaikus flashed him a knowing smirk, having his bit of fun by calling out the staring.

“Shall we?” Jaikus said, jutting his chin to begin their hike up the hill. The landscape around them was tropical and verdant, filled with the sounds of wildlife and scents of nature. It was a complete contrast to the frigid homeworld that Dash had known for most of his life, though it fondly reminded Jaikus of their home on Thyferra.

“Much of an outdoorsman, Dash?” Jaikus asked, keeping pace with Emryc but glancing back over his shoulder to the Padawan.

Ezra’s ears turned pink when his dad squeezed his shoulders and remarked on his exercise habits and him eating properly. He simply coughed in response, his face turning hot. He would never admit that the routine started only after he began dating Dash.

Ezra glanced over as his sister showed up. Of course she and Pops were here early and likely had done hours of exercises well before everybody else showed up. Jayna was a mini Emryc, even down to the ridiculous vegan diet that Ezra found repulsive. Ezra returned her hug, a smug grin appearing on his face as she remarked on Dash.

The introductions went about as he expected - nothing but an icy stare from Pops, but warmer greetings from his twin and dad. Fortunately, Ezra was too oblivious to catch Dash gawking at his Pops or his dad slyly calling it out. He was more focused on making sure no one embarrassed Ezra.

As they started walking, Ezra walked alongside Dash. Pops, of course, being just shy of 7 ft tall took steps that already set him ahead. Dad and Jayna were closer to them as Ezra expected, though he guessed Jayna would soon catch up to Pops.

“Dad and Pops both love hiking” Ezra told Dash as they walked, “If we went entirely by Pops’ idea, we’d be on some snow mountain, freezing to death, and hiking up an ice path. Oh, you'll also have to meet Auntie Tia, though you'll need to be prepared for some nerdy lectures,” His family would notice this was perhaps the most chatty they’d ever seen Ezra. And of course, he held Dash’s hand as they walked.

Jaikus was friendly enough and Jayna bounced around the corner with a pleasant greeting. Dash had not known whether to expect Ezra's twin, but she was a very welcome addition. The more of them there were, the more he could try and hide away if needed.

He was also curious to get to know Jayna herself; she and Ezra surely had a lot in common but she seemed quite different in her own way. She had to know some useful nuggets too. Like the rest of the Thornes, half her appeal was what embarrassing secrets she could tell the Rhinnalian about his high-flying boyfriend, a guy often too perfect for his own good.

Only Emryc's silent, crushing handshake left Dash guessing. He knew he should have expected it, but the reality of someone who doesn't say hi back still had him stumped for a moment.

When Jaikus cheekily called out his staring, he could have died. Dash looked from Emryc to Jaikus and back again, mouth open but nothing more than a semi-affronted grunt coming out. Was he really that easy to read? Then he remembered who these men were and how hopeless it would be to try and best them.

The only saving grace was that Ez did not seem to notice. The mountainous Emryc was already turning away and in no time they all followed, setting out up the trail. When Ezra took his hand, it still made his heart flutter and he decided to try and relax. He might enjoy himself more if he ditched his original plan and accepted he was going to screw up repeatedly here.

"I used to skate and board a lot back home" he replied, wrestling an urge to big up his athletic pursuits "though it's more snow mountains and ice paths there for the most part". He shot a mischievous look at Ezra, fondly remembering their ascent on the gabal-back. "Rhinnalians don't tend to hike unless the power is out". He spoke to Jaikus, but had one eye on Emryc's massive back, recalling Ezra had said his Pops was a fan of winter sports.

"We actually first met in the outdoors" Dash ventured, choosing his words carefully "though back then I thought Ez - Ezra - might be a bit of a bookworm". In truth, he had thought a lot worse of the other teen that day, but he had been so very wrong. "I was pretty amazed to discover the sailor, podracer and all round speed freak". He smiled at Ezra, knowing he would probably hate any mention of their awkward encounter in the poop-filled rainforest.

In return, he tried to listen carefully to his boyfriend as they walked, when he was not just basking in having a boyfriend at all. "So you have interesting aunties too?" He had no idea who this Tia was, but no one else in Ezra's circle was a grey figure so she was probably an exceptional character too.

Though Jayna said nothing, her gaze flicked between Daddy and Dash - silently watching as the Padawan ogled the half-Sephi’s chest. Much to her chagrin, she had ample experience with people - from classmates to her own friend group - shamelessly gushing about her father, and it didn’t take much to recognize that is what was happening. She couldn’t help the faint exhale of air through her nostrils when Papa slyly called it out, amusement briefly dancing in her silver eyes.

As expected, the quarter-Sephi wasn’t particularly talkative as they began their hike - beginning to cut ahead of both her Papa and twin. She lingered close enough to add her own commentary, though, refusing to relinquish an opportunity to embarrass Ezra in front of his new flame. If that wasn’t the real reason she was here, Jayna didn’t know what was.

She clearly noted just how talkative her twin was, and couldn’t help but smirk at the change - even if it all was sickeningly sweet. She didn’t miss the warm and affectionate smiles coming from her romantic sap of a Papa. “Not like Ezra would be out there any way,” Jayna commented back over her shoulder. “Last time we took a trip to Tokmia for a winter retreat, he ate shit once on the slopes - after which he and Papa spent the entire time locked in the lodge with the heater cranked up.”

“Cloudberry tarts are usually worth sitting through the lectures.”
She commented very matter-of-factly, flashing the hint of a smirk. Both twins had grown up close to their aunt Tia, and it was no secret the woman was adored. Jaikus’ sister - their Auntie Hatice - was somewhat more of an enigma. The woman rarely left Axxila and flitted about like a hurricane whenever she did. Most occasions often results in the twins getting into some kind of trouble, to the point where Papa began to crack down on unsupervised visits.

“Only thing that tops hiking trips in this family are those museum tours,” Jayna said with a shake of her head. For all the ways that she had taken after Emryc, even she found those trips tedious to no end.

Emryc kept walking ahead, clearly in his element. If Dash looked closely, he would notice the edges of where his upper back and shoulders were revealed carried many old wounds. They looked like healed injuries from lashings. Only a few people in the galaxy knew the nature of these wounds now and the knowledge would die with them.

The half Sephi came to a pause to glance at a viewing point that allowed a vantage that stretched out over a valley and a river. It was a breathtaking sight, and he actually waited long enough for the others to catch up. He could hear most of the conversation behind him thanks to his ears, but he naturally toned it all out.

He vaguely remembered that Jaikus told him to ask questions of the boy to at least appear interested. Emryc tilted his head to regard the blond for a moment, “What are your ambitions as a Jedi?” He asked flatly. He was an academic man that had gone through tons of schooling, and the thought of someone pursuing simply Jedi as a path was unimpressive. He pointedly didn’t look at his son, knowing the boy would be irritated at the heavy question. Jaikus brought it upon them all - Emryc operated no other way.

To his credit, Jaikus managed to keep up with Emryc with ease. While the Axxilan wasn't nearly as suited to the outdoors as his husband or daughter, he had been with the half-Sephi for over two decades - and there was no shortage of hikes during that period. He hung back just enough to participate in the ongoing conversations, and couldn’t help but flash one of those ridiculously cheesy grins while listening to Ezra - immediately recognizing how chatty the boy was.

He bit back a snort when Jayna made her comment - shooting his daughter a glance but otherwise saying nothing about the embarrassing story.

“The first excursion Emryc and I ever went on was a cold planet.” He commented with a coy smirk, glancing up to his husband, a playful glint dancing behind his emerald eyes. Both of the twins had heard of the story of Telos, even if the details were always omitted.

Of course, his attention was promptly drawn towards the breathtaking view ahead - emerald eyes cast across the horizon, from the rolling valley to the crystal blue river that carved across the landscape. The Axxilan stepped beside his husband, giving the half-Sephi an affectionate squeeze of the hand during their little break.

Jaikus glanced from Emryc to Dash - arching a brow at the question. Unfortunately for Ezra and his boyfriend, the Axxilan had no intention of diffusing the question or coming to their rescue. “Have you considered university outside of your duties as a Jedi?” Academics was one of the subjects where he and Emryc were both in perfect alignment - owing to their own well-educated backgrounds, and Jaikus’ own time as a Professor. It was something he wasn’t willing to budge on with Ezra, and was genuinely curious what educational background Dash had or wished to pursue.

Dash chuckled at Jayna's story about Tokmia "Oh really?" he looked across at Ezra for confirmation, not that he needed him to admit squatting in comfort rather than braving the snow. He just knew it was true.

The young Padawan thumbed his pockets as they crested a viewing point, subconsciously taking in the three Thornes walking ahead. They were all tall, even Jaikus reasonably so, and it was a little like being out for a walk with a tribe of giants. Still, something told Dash he could get used to it. Emryc was the only one so massive it was hard to take it in. He even looked like he had a few scars hiding under that tank, like he had actually been hewn from rock after all.

Dash thought he was doing pretty well so far, settling in to the relaxed joy of hanging out with Ezra and his family. Then the President of most of the known galaxy pretty much asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up.

He nearly lied. It would have been easy to say the right thing, but he knew that would not wash with someone like Emryc Thorne. Plus, for the first time in a long time, he was talking to adults who were not Jedi themselves. Maybe he could actually be honest.

"To become stronger" he said, drawing level with Emryc and trying to find the words "I can do things, things only the Jedi have been able to help me understand. But I know I can do more. I want to learn, get stronger, better, until I'm the best there is".

From what he knew, it was not really what should motivate a Jedi. Some elders would say it was little close to pride and vanity, but Dash did not think they were right. The frost had come to him when he was little more than a kid; he did not choose it, but it chose him. He had tried running from it, but that got him nowhere. His urge to master it was what had brought him to the Jedi and from what he had seen it was unusual even in their circles. If it was something special, if he was special, didn't he owe it to himself to find out?

He had not quite figured out what he would do when he got there, if he got there. He knew some great Masters, but what he had seen of their lives did not exactly thrill him. Still, he had a long way to go and plenty of time to work it out.

Jaikus's follow up was another unexplored tangent. "Not up to now" he replied, again being honest "my mom and dad had me primed for medical school - that's their thing - but I guess I'm more creative...". He had been a top student until his teens, but after that he had lacked the interest rather than the ability. He was not going to tell the Thornes that though, nor was he going to mention the singing, dancing or his brief spell in the theatre. These guys were looking for five star grades.

"What did you both do when you were our age?" Dash asked, genuinely intrigued but also glad of the chance to deflect. Maybe he could learn enough to make sure he and Ezra were just as successful in twenty five years time.
