In the past 10 minutes, I was sitting around and then saw someone with a McGill sweatshirt on. We started talking and he mentioned he was an alum of my school but was now going to McGill for music. Then, I remembered hearing about tuition riots and he said they were kinda stupid because Quebecois were only paying about $3,000 for tuition whereas the tuition(without scholarships easing it) for my school is about $37,000. Is it right for the school to raise tuition? Are the protests a reasonable way of expressing displeasure in this circumstance? And overall, should secondary education cost money for students given its immense benefits?

Am I the only one who read it as McGrill? Then I thought of some people rioting at McDonalds.

McGill? The protests are happening all over Quebec, not just at McGill.

here's a video showing some of the action:

last friday's was the most violent demonstration by far.

" Then, I remembered hearing about tuition riots and he said they were kinda stupid because Quebecois were only paying about $3,000 for tuition whereas the tuition(without scholarships easing it) for my school is about $37,000."

We also have free healthcare and a whole wealth of other social benefits. It's the choices we made as a society. Don't compare us to the U.S. Because the U.S isn't a model for anything.

Also my tuition is 1000$ per semester.

$37,000 a year and being in debt for the next 30 years is the only way to know you're free.

Meh, the riots do seem a little dumb due to Quebec already having some of the cheapest higher education in Canada, and compared to the US, it might as well be free.

Lol'd at the derp cop who tripped in Sin's video.

Americans: they would rather sit on the couch and watch TV than fight for social change, which they desperately need because their country is ****ed up.

Also the Montreal police chief claimed there was no violence towards the protestors. Yet the pictures of bloody students says otherwise.

I have no great love for this free education. Aside from being a socialist idea, and not quite proper, it gives the underclasses ideas about things, y'know. All the education the underclasses really need is how to not spend all their money on gin (our poor wives have driven themselves to distraction in the temperance society, but I shan't bother telling them it's a waste of time on knaves and rapscallions) and how to properly defer to their betters. I recall a conversation over some tea and cucumber sandwiches with Lord Harriston at the Almack's, if we can't keep the help under control, how are expected to run an empire? He muttered something about a petticoat empire and we laughed and downed some sherry.

Apologies. Off to a safari in Siam. Barbaric king, y'know. And not a white man, but not a bad fellow as far as those sort are concerned.

Yes, I actually do. Not nearly as well as you do obviously, since you're in it. But I do generally pay attention to things that are going on in the world.

Not sure if this is directed to me or not, but Id have to agree that the US is ****ed up, though I have doubts about the effectiveness of the standard "fighting" for social change that happens.

Ah, quite my good sir. If the lesser men were to acquire an education, then there would be no lesser men. The lower orders should remember their place. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Bath for my health.
