DESCRIPTION
The MC80A star cruiser is a powerful warship originally manufactured by the famed Mon Calamari Shipyards of Dac, and famously used during the Galactic Civil War by the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Among the largest ships in the Rebel fleet, it was also one of the most advanced capital ships in the Galaxy in its day, a title it held for decades even after the war.

One of the first ships selected by the Mon Calamari leadership to be converted to military service after Dac committed itself to the Rebellion, the MC80A was originally designed for deep-space exploration, and as such boasted various advanced systems and crew comforts not often found on other warships. This being said, the type took well to its new purpose; many turbolasers, ion cannons and anti-starfighter weapons were mounted in casemates scattered across the ship's hull, making the MC80A extremely well protected in almost all directions. Despite this, the ship's crew complement was unusually small for its size; extensive use of automation and high-efficiency machinery reduced the total required crew to just 1,500, although an additional 4,000 were recommended in order to man weapons, perform damage control and operate other combat-critical systems. In addition, 1,200 passengers could be carried, as well as up to 20,000 tons of cargo.

Notably, and importantly for the Rebel Fleet's overall strategy, the MC80A could carry up to 120 starfighters or light starbombers, as well as up to 36 shuttles or other, similarly sized craft. This gave the MC80A an overwhelming advantage in fighter strength over most Imperial vessels, and though the ship could get stuck in with a star destroyer, its preferred strategy was to sit back at standoff range and allow its starfighters to pick off the enemy's fighter cover and weapon systems before moving in for the kill.

Though commonly referred to as star cruisers, MC80As are more correctly classified as star destroyers under the Anaxes War College category system.

The MC80A has had a long and illustrious service career. The most famous example in Rebel service was the Home One, which served as Admiral Gial Ackbar's flagship during the decisive Battle of Endor. Home One would go on to serve the New Republic, and later ended up in the Resistance starfleet. Many MC80As followed similar careers, and after the conclusion of the First Order-Resistance war, those that survived were passed on to various sector governments and planetary militias.

MC80As are relatively rare in this current era of peace, as are most large warships. Though many were actually converted back into lightly armed exploration cruisers, as originally intended, some did remain as warships, and today serve various sector fleets and even some planetary governments wealthy enough to maintain them. On the whole, they are not as common as Imperial designs, as not nearly as many were produced overall, but they are more desirable due to their increased starfighter capacity and reduced crew requirements.

LEGALITY
Restricted. MC80A star cruisers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or particularly wealthy government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To create a standard star destroyer.

RESTRICTIONS
These cruisers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.
