EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The MBC-series tankette is a pattern of light armored vehicle manufactured by a variety of firms across the Galaxy. Commonly classified as a "tankette" due to its length of just 2.5 meters, the MBC is essentially a repeating blaster nest on tracks. Operated by a single driver/gunner, the hull of the MBC is armored to resist medium blaster fire, but most models are open-topped, leaving the driver exposed. Top speed is about 100 kph, however, giving these nimble little craft decent mobility for a tracked vehicle.

Although variations exist, most MBCs are equipped with a pair of heavy repeating blasters, roughly equivalent to a dual E-Web mount. These weapons are fire-linked, and can be traversed in a 90 degree vertical arc; notably, they can be aimed straight up, which allows them to engage lightly armored air targets. To traverse the weapon horizontally, the entire vehicle must be traversed; this can be accomplished in a special steering mode, which allows for fine adjustment down to a single degree at a time.

MBC-series vehicles are an extremely old design, with the first examples of the type dating back to over a century before the Clone Wars. Viewed as a potent, low-cost weapon by the small military forces of the era, they were popular, and saw a number of revisions. Although left behind by advances in military technology during the Clone Wars and the subsequent Galactic Civil War, MBCs were still cheap and easy to acquire, and filled a niche on the battlefield. They remain popular with certain groups to this day, including planetary militia forces, low-rent mercenaries and corporate security.
