Jedha

He would be the second Drast the current Order has seen to have joined the Jedi. The name he held was heavy, its origins rich with the history of those who had ensured the Jedi would not once more rise to counter their power. This one though was different, his thinking not as rigid as his cousins, aunts, uncles, and possibly even his parents. For them, she was certain there was a feeling of disconnect and shame, but for Arda, she saw Brent for who he was. Even if there were times she wanted to lock him in a shuttle and send him across the galaxy with his antics.

Arda was surprised at even her own suggestion to include Brent in the trials, but she felt there was a potential that was hidden from others, it was a vulnerability that he would hide possibly due to his Drast name, or to his own doubts and failings. Often it was covered with humor, but his heart was good and she knew the Order could use some jest when deemed appropriate.

With her was again, Jedi Master Eisa Swan, the only other current Jedi Master in the Order and together they sat in the Master's meeting hall in the temple on Jedha. It was a small room, but there had not need to make it bigger since the last Jedi council dispersed several years ago. It was a blow to the Galactic Alliance that Arda did not think it ever recovered from, but one they had to move past, and uphold what they believed to be right and just for those who still lived under the oppressed hand of the Empire. Glancing at Eisa her eyes fell back on the door as they waited for Brent to enter.

Pursing her lips in thought, the Ashen haired Jedi's gaze panned around the confines of the small master's meeting chamber within thr Jedha Temple. Which was a stark difference to the ornate and widely open council chamber that resided at the top of the temples spire, as grand as the chamber was following the completion of the restoration works, it for the best part - with the exception of the odd visit to step away to somewhere quiet, was seldom used. There was no Jedi council to speak of, the mantle of leadership of the Jedi Order rested upon the shoulders of the Grand Master. An unenviable job indeed, one that hopefully with the appointment of new Jedi Masters within the Order could help lighten the burden off of Arda's shoulders.

Leaning back slightly in her chair, her face contorting a little. As she tried to subtly shuffle and work her body against the padding of the seat to wear it in a little. She had gotten so used to the seat within her fighter having moulded around the contours of her slight frame, that sitting in any other seat didn't feel right. Much like the change in furniture, so was the change in the Masters appearance - forgoing her more frequently worn flight suit, in favor of her traditional and formal robes. Seemed fitting that for the occasion that she was attending to matters of the Jedi order, she dressed like a Jedi rather than a fighter pilot.

Having found a relatively comfortable position to sit in, the Ashen haired master cast Arda a warm smile, as she nodded in readiness for the Trail to commence. The Knight Brenton Drast, was one she couldn't say that she had alot of time shared with him during missions, even in thier shared capacity within Star squadron. It seemed that for the majority of the time, thier paths had crossed only in passing - which unfortunately meant little was really known about the Knight. During thier initial discussions prior to the Trails taking Place, The grand Master had revealed that she had worked closely with the Knight. It would seem appropriate that Arda lead the line of questioning to begin with.

Brent was nervous. He knew what he was capable of and how everybody tended to see him. It was his thing to be a problem child so it was a surprise even to him to have the master trials come before him. The Drast took a deep breath standing on the otherside of the doors and then opened them.

Stepping inside he saw the Grandmaster and Master Swan waiting for him. Jedha was a planet he had only visited a handful of times since he had joined the Jedi Order. It was always on official business but Brent tended to either be out on missions or on Ellora training and keeping to the library.

Coming to a stop before both of them he was not sure which one would speak first. He certainly did not feel like it should be himself doing the talking. While Eisa looked to be dressed in formal attire Brent was dressed in his jedi armor without the casual clothing over it that he normally wore. People in the past may have objected to his abnormal clothing choices for a Jedi but he was not the type to usually go along with the norm. crap, I forgot to brush my teeth this morning. That was a pretty strong pot of coffee I had this morning too. Brent was not really sure what to expect and so just stood there waiting.

Brent arrived on time and Arda was surprised to see him in attire other than his typical casual spacer's garb. He looked like a Jedi and Arda was uncertain if she was comfortable with that or not. She questioned her discomfort, placing her trust in the Force to guide her thoughts and questions in the trial. She pushed her own feelings aside and focused back on the Jedi Knight that stood before them. His own unease was evident when he entered the room and though she knew her own presence put a lot of her Jedi on alert, they became more mindful of how they acted and felt around her. This situation was entirely more validated.

"Thank you for coming today, Brent. The path of a Jedi is filled with challenges, though there are at times calmer moments, it is an active duty, not only to those who we are called to their aid, but to ourselves also." Arda began, folding her hands in front of her, "A Jedi is to be selfless, how does finding peace within yourself address this Jedi trait of selflessness?" she asked and fell silent.

The room would fall into quietness as she waited for his reply, the calm waves of the Force washed through the Grandmaster calming her own mind and it's thoughts to ensure she understood him clearly.

Don't be dumb. Now's not the time to be a joker... well maybe not a complete goof. It's part of my charm after all. Brent thought to himself knowing he should not take this situation lightly. This was important. He took a deep breath and listened carefully to what the Grandmaster said.

"It's an honor Grandmaster Breaux, Master Swan." He gave them both a slight bow of his head, speaking for the first time since he had arrived. Usually he referred to them more casually with names like Gee-em or simply by their first name. It was not a lack of respect but a simple show of comfort. In this case the respect for their station was appropriate rather than familiarity.

"If I am not at peace with within I cannot hope to keep the peace throughout. Before looking outward I looked inward. Only then can I hope to help others to the best of my ability." A lot of tombs had spoken wisdom as had many knights and mentors since he had joined the Galactic Alliance as a simple rebel engineer. But even being told the wisdom it was not enough. The Drast had learned it and experienced it on his own and believed he had found peace within himself. Otherwise he would not be standing where he was.

Slowly the ashen haired Jedis gaze shifted between Arda and Brent, as the initial exchange took place, commencing the proceedings of the prospective Jedi Master's evaluation. A warm smile crossing her features as she nodded in acknowledgement of Brent's comment, Eisa's gaze shifting over to the Grand Master whilst Brent pondered over the question Posed to him, before leaning forward in her seat to intently listen the man's response. A thoughtful expression crossing her features as she reflected on the pointent answer, there was a broadly accepted truth, that in order to bring peace to one's surroundings - peace must be held within.

Pursing her lips in thought as she retreated back into the depths of her chair, a hand raising up to pull away at a few errant strands of hair, her emerald eyes staring intently at Brent for a few silent moments as Eisa followed a train of thought of questioning. Unlike Arda, she had not had much experience in dealing with the Jedi Knight, even though they were within the same squadron, Brent had often been on different missions or as part of different training flights. So there was little to question him about what she had observed in such scenarios, there was one thing that she was soundly aware of - the reputation that preceded him.

"Knight Drast" Eisa spoke out, breaking the silence that had fallen over the hall. "Of all the Jedi within the Order, you have a bit of a reputation of being the class clown" she continued as a light grin curled at the edge of her lips, her gaze holding firm with Brent's. "whilst I'll admit, having someone who can make a well timed quip, can be a much needed boost for morale of those around you" she added, thinking back to her earlier days within the rebellion - back when she was a teenager caught in the middle of an imperial bombardment or about to drop out of hyperspace to engage in a dog fight. The simple act of someone breaking the tension, often went a long way.

"And knowing that we all have our own ways of trying to brighten up the dire situations we find ourselves in" Eisa resumed after a brief moment of thought. Her gaze shifting over to regard the Grand Master for a brief moment, before returning back to meet Brent's. "As a Master, would you see your attitude as being appropriate for someone in your position?" the ashen haired Jedi enquired, as her head tilted to the side inquisitively. "How would you present yourself to the rest of the Order, should you be awarded the title of Master?" she added, as a curious expression crossed her features.

There was no wrong or right answer, after all each Jedi from Padawan to Grand Master was unique in their own way. Knowing all to well that many would have seen her earlier fondness for vibrant and sometimes loud hair colourings, was not fitting for a Jedi Knight. And, had the constant years of chemical abuse not damaged her hair, she would still likely be sitting with some vivid colour scheme. It was down to personal choice as to how a master would present and conduct themselves, something that she was interested to hear as to how, Brent would perceive himself as a Jedi Master.

The way Eisa made it sound was that he had some sort of condition. She spoke about his unique way of dealing with things and general actions. He could not blame her. He stuck out and was not the typical Jedi.

"I wouldn't consider it inappropriate." They were all individuals and while the man was perhaps more casual and different from other typical Jedi he recognized that individuality was not something to try and stifle. "I...don't think much would change really. More responsibility, more work, but more opportunity to make an impact and change things for the better."

Brent usually did not plan too far ahead. A year at most was maybe about as far ahead as he planned things. It was daunting to think of what he might do as a Master but there was excitement there too. Either way he was fine with the end result. If he became a Master that would be great. If he remained a knight then that was fine as well. He still had plenty of privileges that others took for granted. Most importantly he could still be a decent Jedi regardless of rank.
