Born in Cloud City, Bespin, to a museum curator and his wife, Marric was raised within a rather intellectual household. The inquisitive nature of his mind during his earlier years was wholly encouraged by his parents, who answered each question he had with honesty and just the right amount of information for his young self to comprehend. An only child he was adored by those closest to him, and overtime he developed a reputation for being rather impish - that is, he would always seek to make those around him happy through his childish wit and antics.

When he turned four he began his formal education, though his parents had already seen it fit to teach him plenty of the basics. It did not take him long to pick up aurebesh, and basic arithmetic, and he was always excited to bring home his school work because it made his parents smile to see him excel. Even at such a young age he wanted nothing more than to please them, to make his parents proud, no matter the cost. Even when his social circle began to expand, with the introduction of fellow students from school, Marric preferred the company of his family. He was not afraid to admit that his mother and father were his best friends, as much as they tried to foster an independent spirit within him.

In his sixth year the boy found his world turned on its head. His parents had ventured off-world in search of a highly sought after piece for an exhibit his father was working on, traveling alongside a group of renown adventurers, while Marric remained home under the watchful eye of Tor Felani, a long time family friend. Things went on as usual despite their absence, with Tor encouraging him in his studies much in the same way his parents had. As time drifted on, however, things within his household became rather tense as weeks turned into months and his parents did not return.

During this time Marric would often press Tor for answers, constantly insisting that the man find a way to contact them, to make things right; for his part, poor Tor felt well and truly helpless, and in many regards he was. As the months drifted into a year, he had to accept the fact that the expedition was likely lost. No news ever came, none of the crew ever returned. And all that remained was a lost little boy he had promised to keep watch over.

Tor had never been one for remaining still for very long, in fact his year spent on Bespin was nearing a record for him. His work never really allowed for it, and he was quickly running out of funds to support himself nevermind another mouth. After dropping off a datapad to the museum which explained everything, he closed up the Cartanda home and left the world with Marric at his side.

Soon enough things returned to normal for Tor, but for Marric his life had never been so strange. As it turned out, his guardian was a starship engineer who worked on a high end passenger liner known as The Solarbeam; now that the vessel had returned to Bespin it was time for life to go on, and the boy found himself quickly engulfed by life onboard a spaceship. His lessons became less and less, until he seemed to hardly have time to study at all, and his once keen and educated mind was soon far behind the average for his age, at least on paper. Instead he was put to work as a deckhand, made to do petty work in exchange for his room, food, and any supplies he required. His interactions with Tor lessened, though each time he met with the man he could sense how distraught he was over the circumstances, the remorse he felt.

Somehow that didn't help.

His life became a slow drum of regulated activity and work, with little to break up the monotony. The crew became a rather poor shoe-in for his family, who seemed to enjoy his company and the liveliness he would bring to a room on the days he wasn't feeling so glum. Soon enough it was hard for him to even really remember a time before this had been the norm, as though he had always been there. Cleaning the kitchen, fetching for the other crew members, soaring through space... An education was switched out for what were deemed more pertinent life skills, as he was taught how to cook, the basics of how to maintain (and every now and then, to shoot) a blaster, and how to hold his own in a close quarter fight. Not that the latter was of much use to him, after all he rarely came into contact with people his own age anymore.

All the while, something deep within him was beginning to stir. There was more to Marric than met the eye, he just didn't know it yet...

Marric is a rambunctious young boy with a love of learning that, in more recent years, has been severely neglected.

His small stature enables him to be much sneakier than his adult counterparts should the need or desire for such arise, and often leads many to underestimate him, yet it is not without its own glaring drawbacks. Far weaker than the others, the lessons he's been taking in close quarter combat are mostly useless in his usual surroundings as he is clearly no match for anyone where strength is concerned.

He has taken an interest in electronics since joining the crew of The Solarbeam, often tinkering with the broken pieces of micro-machinery down in the maintenance hall, and sometimes even his own datapad, in hopes of better understanding them. Given his lack of a formal education, it remains to be one of the few ways for him to expand his mind and keep it active.

Though he knows that he misses his family deep down, in reality these days he doesn't even really remember much about them; their names, their faces, are hard for him to recall, yet the vacuous ache caused by their absence haunts him all the same.

Marric longs to stretch his legs and venture out onto one of the planets the liner visits for more than just a few minutes. To explore and feel alive once more. One day he hopes to run and play with youths his own age as he did back on Bespin, in fact he would give anything to be allowed to simply be a child once more as opposed to a mindless worker drone.

While Marric is, in fact, sensitive to the Force, it is not something he is overly aware of, nor is it something he's ever been tested for. It has affected his life in small ways, such as having slightly quicker reflexes than others his age, but his lack of interaction with other kids has made it impossible to notice. He's also able to ever so slightly glean the emotions of another, if he focuses hard enough, though this he chalks down to simply being observant.

One of his favourite things to do is to sneak into one of the larger guest suites once they're vacant, and sit and watch the stars drift by in peace. His own room doesn't have any real viewing ports, after all, only screens which simulate the void beyond the ship. He likes to imagine the various worlds, and peoples who inhabit them, to think up fantastical stories and adventures like his parents would make up for him before bed each night. It makes him feel just a little less alone in the world...
