MARCUS DEMICI

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain - and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

PERSONALITY

Marcus is a simple soldier who doesn't view himself as anything more than a wheel moving the desires of powerful men. Powerful men, who make no mistake, he has respect for. He is known for keeping to himself, although it is hard considering he frequently has people asking him about the scar on his face. Marcus is very much a conflicted man. Struggling with the shame of leaving the Mandalorians and his fall into alcoholism, as well as his buried love for Tsu Ordan who he abandoned.

BIOGRAPHY

Marcus was born to Count Lucius, the head of the Demici family, and Countress Aula. From an early age Marcus' father often detached himself from his son, though Marcus understood that his father was busy with his work and never held any grudge against him. His mother assumed both parental roles during Marcus' early years, feeding him healthy foods and teaching young Marcus how the world worked. Even so, he and his mother were distant. He loved her, he knew she cared about him and loved him back, but they weren't “close” in the traditional sense.

The one Marcus was closest to was his uncle, Eugene. Uncle Eugene was more than his uncle, he was his father, his brother, his tutor. Despite not being present in Marcus' early life, Eugene became very active in raising Marcus after returing to the Demici family, rumoredly out of exile for an unknown reason. Initially serving as an open pair of ears to Marcus, Eugene eventually turned into his tutor despite a small protest by Count Lucius.

He proved to be a good tutor too, Marcus excelled in his studies and was proving to be a nice heir to his father. Their studies took unorthodox paths at times, with occasional coures in echani art and riding landspeeders through the forests of Serenno. They become close through these studies, trusting and loving each other more and more. Effectively, Eugene filled the fatherly role that Marcus has been lacking.

Eventually Marcus' life became stale. His studies grew old, his relationships became uniform, his life proved too simple. He had no great conundrum to solve in his life, he's access to a vast fortune meant all his problems could easily be delt with. The only thing waiting for him at the end of the hall was becoming the head of the Demici family, but he wasn't sure he wanted that. Marcus hadn't chosen to serve his fathers people, after all. He was born into it.

On the eve of his 16th birthday, his life took an interesting turn of events. His father had treated him to a cruise to Ord Cestus where he would spend a month studying the X'Ting native to the planet. He chose to go alone, hoping to “find himself” without interference from family while on the trip. During the cruise though, the starship they were traveling on was attacked by pirates. The pirates scavanged what they could off the starship and ransomed off many of the weathly travelers.

Marcus, however, was held captive for several weeks. On one hand he saw the pirates as a blessing, and on the other hand he saw them as savage beasts. He believed he was never going to return to the Demici family, if his father was interested in ransoming him he would have done it already. He was free, now, in a sense. Marcus wasn't free to leave or do what he wanted though, the pirates made sure he realized that.

As the weeks went by, the pirates moved from system to system attacking random starships when they could. Eventually, apparently, they crept into Mandalorian space. It proved to be a bad choice, the first Mandalorian ship they attacked the pirates were entirely dismantled. When Marcus was found the Mandalorians offered him the chance to become one of them. Finding this to be the only way to truly escape his fate if he returned to the Demici family, he accepted.

They taught him the principles of combat, toughened him up quite a bit, and raised him into adulthood. Finally, after years of hard work he became Marcus Skirata. He loved his life as a Mandalorian, as a member of Clan Skirata, and he all but completely forgot his past life. Time passed, he grew older, and he was content. All great things come to an end though, and as the Second Mandalorian Civil War approached rapidly Marcus made the decision to avoid it completely.

He escaped to Nar Shaddaa and watched the civil war unfold from afar. He was ashamed of himself, in a lot of ways. It was far from being “Mandalorian” as he knew it. Marcus drowned his shame in all sorts of alcohol and drugs. He sold off his armor and the majority of his weapons, using the money to subsidize his growing addiction to the alcohol. The following weeks have largely been a haze, finding himself taking up the name 'Demici' again but unsure what to do himself beyond that.
Nothing of note.

I revisited and revised Lucien into this. I'm much happier with the character now. Some things will be expanded in the future through flashbacks, like the reason why he decided to escape to Nar Shaddaa rather than participate in the civil war.

Expect a "Basic Information" section later today. Eventually he'll employ someone to make him some new armor and gather some weapons, but a "Gear" section won't be up for a while.
