Romeo Kryze and Skylar Rook versus Dalyn Solus and Revora Kelborn

The Trial of Teams was meant to test a warrior’s ability to work in a team setting and was the first stage of the Mandalorian tournament. In this round of fighting, two teams of two would battle for supremacy and to render the other team incapable of fighting back. If a Mandalorian could not work in tandem with their fellow warriors, then the crusade would be doomed to failure from the start; this stage would show the War Council who was a liability and who was not.

An ice-and-snow covered arena on the harsh Outer Rim world of Contruum 6. Snow falls quickly from the sky during the perpetual blizzard, the powdery stuff building up into snowbanks. In the center of the arena is a small hill, underneath which lays a small cave of about twenty meters end-to-end and about twelve meters wide. A large icy pillar stands in the center of the cave from top to bottom, around which several small ice pillars are scattered. Icy stalagmites and stalactites are also scattered inside the cave. Packed snow trenches run in between snowbanks, winding through most of the arena. Around the edge of the arena is a layer of ice covering freezing water, the ice only an inch or two thick. Be warned, though: exposure to the biting winds outside the cave can impair a Mandalorian’s fighting ability. The wind speed is high, the snow is blinding, and the temperatures are frigid. Visibility iss limited to five meters outside of the cave.

Each member of the fight had their own unique, randomized loadout.

Dalyn (@Rom) would be outfitted in bright-pink and baby vomit green ranger scout armor with one function of his choosing and carry two weapons: a bowcaster with no ammo. and a beskad. The horrible paint scheme of his armor makes him faintly visible up to ten meters away.

Revy (@Caught in Strangereal) would be outfitted in the torso and arm armor of beviinir armor with only a bola launcher and carry a Model-B stun baton and three meters of rope with a lasso at the end, courtesy of the viewers. Yee haw!

Romeo (@Faded Truth) would be outfitted only the helmet and torso armor of medium beskar’gam with no functions and carry an A-10 Long-blaster with a half-charged power cell and no additional reloads. As a gift from the viewers, he was also given a 10kg filled fire extinguisher that has a cone of one meter and a range of five meters. It's useful for five blasts of 1 second each. A rubber chicken is glued to his torso armor. It honks very annoyingly when squeezed. a-HAAAAAAAANK.

Skylar (@Insalius) would be outfitted in the arm and leg pieces of brutus assault armor with a concealed blade that doesn’t extend all the way and carry a versatech cosmowrench and one 20cm vibroblade. He has several zipties in his pockets.

Around the arena were ships hovering above the snow so contestants could watch from the warmth of their ships. Several droids floated around, streaming the fight for the rest of the Mandalorian people. The Mand’alor and War Council would watch as well, judging the fighters on their skill, tenacity, and ability to adapt.

Dalyn grit his teeth behind the t-shaped visor of the helmet he'd been given for the fight as he stepped off the transport, trying not to imagine the laughter of his friends and clan mates at the sight of him. The bowcaster slung across his back - despite the lack of ammunition - and the beskad at his hip were a reassuring weight while the environmental suit beneath his armor insulated him from the worst of the biting cold of Contruum 6... but the paint job was horrendous! 'I shouldn't complain, my kit is at least useful for the arena... kriff it, I'm still going to punch the organizer for this.'

Turning to regard his partner for the fight, a Cathar from Clan Kelborn, Dalyn tapped his comms so he could be heard clearly over the howling wind. "Fur or not, I'm the only one equipped to be out in this cold. Head for the cave and use what cover you can to draw them in to the melee. I'll be right behind."

Turning without another word Dalyn dashed forward into the blizzard toward the center of the arena with the Cathar following close behind, keeping low to try and minimize his profile. The briefing had shown the cave with entrances on both teams sides of the arena beneath the hill, and the weather conditions demanded the cave be used as both shelter and the true arena of the fight. With the maw of the cave opening ahead of him, Dalyn turned aside and scaled the side of the hill instead, falling prone and crawling until he was just below the rise of the hill on their side of the arena. Shifting from side to side, the Solus warrior created a furrow in the snow and carefully layered the snow on top of his body, packing it to camouflage himself beneath the thick powder. Sweeping his arms forward and then pulling them inward, the snow piled ahead of him like any other snowbank save for a small square to see out of. If his opponents thought to scale the hill he'd see them before they saw him, flourescent armor or not.

Grinning, he stilled his body and allowed the blizzard to hide him beneath a layer of cold, his environmental suit keeping the worst of the cold from effecting him. 'Let's see what the cat can do with these mice.'

Romeo lowered the T-visor of his helmet, boots landing softly into the snow as he snarled beneath his visor and glanced out ahead at the cave entrance. His vision allowed him to peer straight through the mouth, glancing momentarily at what would be on the other side. Visibility outside the cave was poor as were the frigid winds that tore into his flesh with a gruesome chill, "Damn its cold.." He muttered, the Mandalorian not particularly fond of the cold climate. He preferred warm beaches with half naked twileks, tough he supposed once he was doctrined the Champion of Mandalore, he could always take that vacation.

Romeo moved forwards towards the cave entrance, brushing to the side along as he bore traction into the snow with his feet. Sliding to a halt just outside the edge, he peered inside curiously before setting up the Sniper Rifle. The muzzle was a meter or so behind the entrance of the cave, difficult to see given the shadows and lack of natural light inside the mountain. Coming to a kneel, he glared through the scope of his rifle, left half of his face visible as he relied on just the right eye to pinpoint his enemies. He chuckled in a sinister and nefarious manner, green orbs burning with hatred.

These were his brothren, but the Mandalorian was ruthless and merciless.
Romeo would claim his title and destiny. He naturally scanned back and forth, Dalyn was seemingly hidden out of sight but the Cat Mando, if she were ambulatory, would have been visible in his reticle sight.

Tilting his head half way backwards, he nodded towards his own comrade.
"Ready?" He asked, motioning to the fire extinguisher that lay a few meters from his feet.

It was a damn good thing Skylar was a Shistavanen, his thick, fluffy fur helping to take the edge off of the cold. Still, when he was dropped off onto the planet close to his partner with only the arm and leg pieces of heavy armor, a wrench, and vibroblade. Not ideal, yet not an impossible situation either. He knew when he had agreed to join in with this tournament that just about anything could happen, so the randomness of his assignment of gear wasn't crushing for him. In fact, it was actually fairly exhilarating. He would have to use his wits and skill to outdo his opponents, able to completely trust his partner for this fight without having to give it much thought. He was a Mandalorian, so a brother in arms. If you couldn't trust your brother, who could you trust?

Following Romeo to the cave entrance, Skylar picked up the fire extinguisher with a light in his eye and small smile. Leaving the vibroblade at the man's side in return, he hooked the extinguisher to the back of his belt before hefting the wrench to enter the cave. He knew that there would be viewers watching, so he thought to give them a bit of a show. Stealth would be impossible in the cave, so as he made his way about three meters into the cave, he cupped his hands to give a loud yell of insults. "HEY, HU'TUUN! ARE YOU GONNA MAKE US WAIT UNTIL WE ALL FREEZE TO DEATH!? GET OUT HERE AND FIGHT LIKE A REAL MANDALORIAN. UNLESS YOU'RE REALLY SHABUIR PRETENDING TO BE MANDALORIANS! COME OUT AND FIGHT ME, OR LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT DI'KUTS YOU ARE!!" When he finished his speech he hoisted the wrench above his head like a challenge, fur ruffled and tail swishing with gusto. They would either laugh or rise to the challenge. Either way, this wouldn't hurt their chances. He watched for any attacks or threats in front of him towards the other side of the cave, trusting Romeo would have his back.

By the Pantheon it was karking cold! That was what Revy's detailed expert opinion on the conditions of Contruum 6. The Cathar felt exposed outside the comfort of her Beskar'gam only having the chest and arm armor to provide protection. Bits of fur now experiencing the sensation of snow falling onto it only to melt and refreeze. She was already shivering a bit and envious of her partner's environment suit. Still She had her own tools of the trade and she knew that the people watching from their warm comfy ships were likely getting a hoot out of all of this.

She look towards her teammate in his ghastly armor, she really did want to see the organizer get punched. She was giving a stun baton and a lasso for kriff's sake still a few ideas were already popping into her head about how to turn lemons into lemonade. Readying her baton and rope, she nodded in agreement. They were already working to coordinate and they were giving a brief chance to mull over the possibilities in order to hash out a rough sketch. Now to see how it handles first contact.

Following her teammate in an initial charge Revy would keep going entering the mouth of the cave. Stepping five meters in she would quickly peek around the central pillar to eye the mouth of the cave noticing the sniper having taken position she quickly took measures to maintain cover and have the central pillar Romeo's point of view. He would see the Petite Cathar for a second only to have his target dissappear behind the pillar of ice.

Revy was getting ready to comm in reports of hostiles to Dalyn clicking her comm button only for her to immediately interrupted by the sound of some arrogant ass of a wolf to start screaming in the cave. Well Chances are Dalyn would get the point. Her ears rang a bit from the echoed yell throughout the cave which had about as much subtlety as Sumas on a stealth mission.

Revy disengaged the safety on her stun baton with her right hand and gripped onto the lasso with her left. She made note of the stalagmites and stalactites scattered through the cave seeing if any were conveniently overhead the wolf. Revy would meet the mutt's inane yelling with a cold authoritative response.

"Easy for you to say with pretty boy backing you. Tell you what. I was just gonna neuter you but looks like I'll need to catch your tongue as well. Come on you mongrel mutt or were you already fixed?" A sly grin trying to force it's way onto the Cathar's face as she waited for combat to begin properly.

For the Mandalorian her next step would be simple and that was not to take any steps forward. She instead remained at roughly the same position as before and waited to see what would transpire. Sure it may not have made for entertaining spectacle but there was definitely an air of tension now. She had her sights on the other team and it was only a matter of time that a melee would break out. She wasn't going to give into Skylar's taunting speech. If he was as much of a firebrand as he was trying to appear than he could easily come to her. Instead she would instead try something else.

"Well come on then! You actually gonna back up those words or are you gonna show everyone that YOU are the real coward!" She would retort with her own shouting which would reverberate throughout the cave and echo with the word coward be repeated over and over again for the next few seconds. Her voice would dominate the sound in the cave as she waited to see what there response was. If anything it would likely make them want to attack her more just so she would shut up.

The howling blasts of ice and snow lashing the hilltop enveloped the bard of Solus waited for the signal, the only visible glimpse of him from beneath the wintery blanket a single bright pink gauntlet with the middle finger extended toward the circling ships overhead. Years fighting with the Mando'ade had left Dalyn twitchy for a good fight, but he still remembered the lessons from his Father on the rewarding nature of patience in the hunt. The click of the comms signaled his patience was being rewarded.

Carefully pushing himself up out of the trench he'd made, Dalyn moved carefully around the perimeter of the hilltop and made his way down the left slope. Keeping the hill to his right, he followed the rise until the sounds of taunts and hollering could be faintly heard on the rising winds. Pressing himself against the side of the hill as he approached the gaping cave mouth from the side, he tapped his comms twice to signal his partner while drawing his beskad in a smooth motion and lingering out of sight. Rev had the job of drawing the warriors in and her raucous taunts would certainly do the trick on any proud Mandalorian.

'Bring them in, Revora... ready the noose.'

There was a difference between hot-headed belligerence and a calculated tactic. If it had been the former, Skylar would have jumped at the taunts and rushed into what was most likely a trap. Instead he would keep his head, giving only a grin as he was amused by the attempt to bounce his tactic back at him. Still, for what he was planning, he DID have to get closer. So, he considered playing along. He moved forward into the cave, wrench held in his right hand ready to attack or defend as needed. He moved up to the pillar, his back towards his partner as he made a gesture for the Cathar to bring it. "Then, how about we fight without interference? I'm here, you're there, let's fight like real Mandalorians. I'll even let you have the first attack. Now, less talking, more fighting. Bring it, cat!" He had his back to one of the smaller ice pillars, finger on the button for his armor's blade to trigger if needed. Part of him looked forward to the oncoming melee. If his opponent wanted to play nice. If not, he'd have to take things into his own hands. He didn't want to bore the viewers.

Romeo smirked, a malicious grin coming across his face as he listened to the insults hurled between the two. His partner's scheme was seemingly working, after all, who could resist a confident wolf whose tail was fluttering with gusto. The Kryze marauder however retained his attention back onto the fight before him. He had yet to obtain a visual on the last remaining opponent, though he assumed he would cross that bridge when they got there. Remaining crouched, he glanced through the reticle one more time; his distance was approximately 18 meters away from Revora now, crosshairs capturing her only for a glimpse before she hid behind the ice pillar.

It was okay, he knew where she was. Prior to his teammate engaging into melee range, Romeo continued to scan the cave through the scope of his rifle, ensuring the 4th combatant wouldn't suddenly sneak up on him.

His smile widened, almost chilling in its murderous tenacity as the finger edged against the trigger but no pull just yet...

Exhaling softly, Dalyn grinned behind his mask at the cacophony of noise echoing from within the cave as Skylar barked out a challenge in response to Revora's taunts. 'What was that old saying about Loth cats and hounds?' Shaking the amusement from his mind, the Mandalorian crouched and turned to peek into the interior of the cave, his eyes darting across the field of icy pillars and stalagmites to hone in on his target. A savage smirk twisted his lips as he adjusted his grip on his beskad and slowly stalked forward, keeping himself low and centered. One step, then two, in the space of a breath Dalyn silently crossed the space between the mouth of the cave and Romeo Kryze with his weapon readied in his right hand.

Crouched with his gaze fixed through the scope of the rifle looking inward to the cave and the echoing shouts of Revora and Skylar ringing in his ears, the first indication that Dalyn had joined the battlefield would be the vicious slash of the beskad cutting across the back of Romeo's knees, the Singing Badger sweeping the blade low from left to right across his body and stepping in close to make use of his blade, staying close enough to render the long-rifle ineffective should Romeo manage to turn and engage him.

Revy had a slow smile creep up her mouth exposing her sharp fangs. This dog was about to be in for a trip. "Alright do need to play with my prey." First though she would unfurl the rope holding one end with a few fingers so she could still hold onto her stun baton. Now ready to swing as she started to swirl it in the air keeping mind to not have it extend too high for fear of it getting caught on any of the rock outcroppings that jutted from the cave's natural ceiling. Skylar and Romeo eyes could see the whispings of of the rope. She finally stepped out sideways to her right, eyes reflecting and glowing green in the darkened cave interior. It was a surreal sight to see the Mandalorian now look more like she came from a cheesy spaghetti western but she was sure it would give the audience a real hoop and holler. She started slowly eyes constantly darting between Skylar and Romeo ready to dodge and react.

She slowly started to approach Skylar closing and hoping to get within 8 or 7 meters of him. Staring him down getting ready to act though also ready to react if he took initiative. If he didn't react and actually let her get the first strike she would utter something first in a calm indoor speaking voice. "Your friend might be in trouble, partner." Timing it just as Dalyn started to deliver his strike on the sniper. She then threw the rope at him aiming to have it hit him at center mass and entangle itself. Sadly she would let go and not use it as a lasso to real the Mando in... yet. She then started to move sideways to her left to close in on Skylar. Just as he would need to dodge and avoid the rope she would raise her wrist and fire the bola launcher from her wrist aiming at around the belly of the wolf to upper chest to make sure to clear any of the rock stalagmites or stalactites . She would make sure to compensate for any movement. If he dodge left her right she would lead in accordance to make sure the wire would ensnare him. If she could pull that off then the real fun could begin.

Well, Kriff...

Romeo had no idea he was fighting such a sneaky little bastard, Dalyn should get the yearly Mandalorian award for being a snake! As the hot head Kryze was glancing through the scope of his rifle, he felt the sudden singing melody of a blade followed by a sharp and vicious pain that cut the back of his legs.

"ARGH!!" He howled in pain as the Solus delivered his strike; but Romeo was not out of the fight just yet, as the impact sent him to his side, he carried the sniper rifle in his hand as his body turned onto its backside. The rifle sweeping on Dalyn's left towards his right in order to bash him with the sudden impact. Romeo's left hand went for the vibroblade at his side, thumb pressing the button as the vibrating hum could be heard.

From this point on, it would be a wrestling match to who wanted it more. Snarling, green eyes looked through the beskar'gam at his opponent.

Finally, the cat moved closer to actually fight. When she taunted him about his partner, and heard the yell, he almost turned to see if he could go help. At the moment, though, he knew he had to continue his part of the fight. Logically he knew there wasn't anything he could do and retreating would only put him in danger of an attack from his flank or back. No, he focused on his current opponent and trusted his partner to be able to defend himself. He would apologize later, of course. After they won, or gave their all to try to do so. That's the only way he could justify losing to a cat.

His back had been to one of the pillars but either side of him was clear. The lasso was just rope flying at him, if he moved from where the ring was intended to land it would miss him. The bola, on the other hand, was a bit more tricky to deal with. He dodged toward her, which would evade where the lasso was heading, bringing his given wrench up to use as a kind of shield held vertically in front of his stomach to chest area. Solid like a limb, when the bola hit it would wrap around the wrench instead of his body. The force would rip the weapon from his hand to send it sailing behind him, yet that was fine. It had done what he had needed it to. Having closed in on the cat instead of away he would throw himself at her in a kind of tackle, trying to bring her to the ground. As he was moving forward at a rapid pace just as she would be moving towards him at a rapid pace, they should meet quickly before either could really change direction. Skylar would keep his guard up in case she made any sudden changes or moves, his fingers still on the button to trigger his armor's only function and other hand ready to reach behind him if needed.

The Singing Badger nearly chuckled in admiration at his opponents spirit as Kryze spun to fall on his backside, raising his free left hand to catch the desparate swing of the A-10 barrel and using his position of greater leverage and strength to keep the muzzle clear of his body while yanking the rifle away from his opponent. A crescent slash toward the extended right arm and then across the space between them with the beskad aimed to force Romeo to release his hold on the sniper rifle as he went for his vibroknife or take a deep cut across his forearm. Either way, Romeo would not keep his hold on the blaster and Dalyn would not let his guard down; prey was always the most vicious when wounded and backed into a corner.

Should Romeo release the rifle Dalyn would step back to put space between himself and his hamstrung opponent while flipping the weapon to bring its muzzle to bear on the space between Romeo's unarmored legs. "Yield."

So the game was now afoot. The dog decided to try a bold defense trying to give up his wrench to avoid the bola wire. Nice try and this act would give a few clues about the nature of his thinking either he was confident enough in hand to hand to forgo the wrench or he had something else to fall back on. Still while the thought counted into his defense wasn't enough. A bola launcher was designed with enough force and length to wrap around a person a simple 1 kilogram wrench less then a foot long wasn't going to be enough to stop it. It would hit the wrench and send it flying away from Skylar but continue on to wrap around his torso.

Revy would then quickly sidestep to the left to avoid the now charging and quickly entangling mass of Mandalorian coming towards her as he passed by. The chances that he was able to keep his balance as steel wire began to bunch and be kicked up was very low. Resulting in the high probability of Skylar tripping.

Revy would use this to opportunity to now jab the entangled mass of Skylar on the ground with her baton which would impact his ass. Now with him in a wirey mess being paralyzed there was a good chance that he was out of this fight or at least severely inhibited.

Romeo yelled again as he got another vicious slash on his right forearm from the Beskad, his grip on the Sniper rifle diminishing as the weapon was torn away from his hold by his opponent. Left hand held the Vibroblade in a threatening manner towards his opponent but his green eyes drifted down towards the muzzle of its sniper as it approached his manhood.

He smirked and shifted his attention back towards Dalyn,
"Your wife will be pissed if you press that trigger, Dalyn..." He chuckled afterwards and dropped the blade in the snow next to him, his hands coming up towards his sides with palms facing the enemy.

"I yield.."

At the very least, this had been a learning experience. Skylar hadn't worked with Bolas like this before, or if he had it had been years ago, so he had underestimated the weapon's power. In short order he was tangled and tripped, though the solace he sought for his pride is that at least he was taken down trying to make an attack and being aggressive, not trying to run or hide. The stun rod would knock him out easily, though he would note where the blow had landed and take some damage to said pride for it. This had been broadcast to all Mandalorians, meaning that everyone had seen his humiliating loss. He wouldn't be able to show his face just about anywhere for a while now. With his loss and his partner's surrender, the opposing team would have won.

Dalyn sighed as the cocksure Kyrze warrior opened his mouth behind his buy'ce, the arrogance of youth and the lack of experience coloring his words. Romeo Kyrze reminded the Singing Badger of dozens of young warriors he had fought beside in the past decade, and most of them had wound up dead. With the crusade that Leandros planned beginning its inexorable march into the hellfire, Dalyn knew that Romeo would either be forged in the flames or consumed by them. Sheathing his beskad as his opponent dropped the knife, Dalyn looked up at one of the circling holocam droids and wearily called out, "Medic!" before bringing the rifle to his shoulder and firing between Romeo's legs in one smooth motion.

The blaster bolt leapt across the space between the muzzle and the fallen warrior's crotch, burning into the cave-floor close enough to burn through the material of Romeo's pants and scorch the sensitive flesh underneath. Ignoring the high-pitched howl of pain, Dalyn ejected the power cell and tossed it deeper into cave before dropping the rifle and wandering over to where Revora stood victorious over the wolfman.

"Nice work with the bolas. Come on, kitty cat, the tihaar's on me."
